Nightmare

Loki woke with a gasp. Vaguely noticing the soaked sheets, he pushed them off and stared into the darkened room. His keen eyes sought out every familiar item while his heart raced. Then he listened.

It was early yet; the palace was sleeping aside from the guard on duty.

Quietly he placed his bare feet on the floor and walked up to a window. With barely a hint of hesitation he touched the curtain and took a look outside.

Everything stood. The gardens, the walls, the golden statues… It was as familiar as a thousand years before.

Absently he touched his chest where the healed wound emitted a faint ache.

It had been another dream.

Of Asgard burning, with Surtur rising among the flames.

And he had been the one setting it ablaze.

The roses that grow in winter are echoes of things to come Like children who live of cinders their whispers too soft for some

We waited so long at the border with hope of another day The needless would bring us their blessing with power to lead us astray

The roses that grow in winter have thorns made of fire and ice The ground that i walk on is cracking It's built upon murderous lies

You challenge a goddess for power you wander a dangerous road The burden is linked to your birthright You'll pay every debt that she's owed

The roses that grow in winter are twisted and hardy like steel The snowfall will cover their petals but never they'll bend for your heel

And So We Fall

And so we fall with wings aflame Like embers fading through the sea A moment's mirror of the stars above  Through shadows of a broken tree

The winds shall rage at our demise The sun shall spell our names But sand will cover every trace In time’s eternal games

A memory in someone’s heart A carving in the wood It fades away and no one cares who wears the Reaper’s hood

Our words were shared so long ago but nothing really changed The sights that formed through broken glass just made us look deranged

We fly too high to be believed Too low to be recalled What all we do is out of bounds and life cannot be stalled

So once our bodies’ powdered bones have risen through the waves The sky will clear and we’ll be gone with no name to our graves
