Nari’s yells from the other room had the owlite dashing toward them as if the room was burning. How had she become the temporary parent of a baby? It was something about learning responsibility and patience, yada yada--she’d already forgot. She liked children don’t get me wrong, but she wasn’t exactly ready to be taking care of one. “What is it?” Mavis huffed dramatically as she came to stand next to the girl who had her face to the floor and her arm reaching under the sofa. “What are you looking for?”
The little bony digit that appeared before her caused a yelp as Mavis hopped back, her wings ruffling. “What happened?! Why does it keep losing parts of its self?!” While Nari had been watching the baby, the owlite had been trying to do some research on the species, but there wasn’t a whole lot on babies. “I found in my book that it doesn’t hurt for them to lose body parts and eventually they come back. So... I guess that’s good right?” It seemed like it was something that was normal for a two-seventy, but it was still disturbing to see this baby literally falling apart in front of them.
Hello baby - event
Did Kim Nari ever imagine herself as a mother? Cradling an infant, cooing sweet words at her bundle of joy, sheltering it from the world while enduring all the roller-coaster ups and downs of raising a living, breathing creature all in good hopes that it would pay off when she saw it bud into a responsible adult ready to sail off into the world all on its own?
Hell-to-the-n-to-the-o.
For starters, she did not even know how to hold a child let alone help raise it. Until what age was the head too sensitive and needed special cradling? When was it safe to relax around a wee critter and hold it however one pleased? What about its teeth, when would it start biting and nibbling at everything it could find and put into its mouth? All these were mysteries of the world that Nari never wanted to find out and yet she found herself in the most bizarre of situations when Mavis and she were given a two-seventy infant to take care of. What was even a two-seventy? Nari had never even heard of the species, let alone saw a youngling of it, but now she had to make sure it didn’t die. How wonderful.
“Noo, Nuh-uuuuuh! Don’t put that in your mouth-” she tried to persuade the child who had found something crawling over the carpet and now held it between its skeletal fingers, inspecting it curiously. Displeased with the appearance of its catch, the baby ended up tossing it aside, though with such might that one of its fingers detached and went rolling down on the floor, and under the couch. “Sweet chocolate baby Jesus!” Nari yelled. “MAVIS! Get in here, he lost a finger again!” Putting her face down against the floor, Nari peeked under the sofa. “I think I can see it. MAVIS! Come here!!”

“Oh! Family name, that’s cool,” he chuckled a bit and watched her expressions shift, as if trying to read how she was feeling, but–it was honestly going right over his head. Her discomfort was not only going over his head, but he didn’t get the hint that she probably didn’t want to be bothered by the seal and his startling ways..poor girl.
“Sorry,” he laughed this time, “I just like wings, they’re pretty,” he tucked his hands into his lap to show that his was sorry, bright eyes looking to the large feathery appendages almost longingly. Looking up when the professor dismissed everyone, he tucked his book back into his bag, looking up to her when she mentioned not wanting to be rude, “Ah nah mate, you’re not rude,” he smiled at her, though when she stood and knocked over the chair, he blinked, noting the heat rushing to her cheeks. Leaning down, he picked up the chair and set it back into place once she’d moved, patting her back a little (mindful to not touch her wings of course, as told. He learned and listened a little). “Hey, don’t be sorry, no need to be,” Lucas picked up her book and offered it up to her, bright eyes showing his excitement to be speaking to someone else new–poor girl, he really didn’t get the hint that she may wanna be left alone.
“Manuscripts? Of what? Do you want help getting to your next class? I kinda know the layout of the place now, kinda,” did he? Maybe, depending on the class. Lord knows he’d get them both lost though…
Mavis wasn’t sure how she had expected the other to react to her clumsiness, but he didn’t even seem phased as he neatly picked up the chair and put it back on its fours. Her body felt like it was collapsing in on itself and her face was hot with embarrassment from drawing everyone’s attention, but when Lucas patted her back gently she seemed to forget everyone had been staring at her and she relaxed slightly. Taking her book back, she gave a soft, unsure smile. “Thank you...”
When he showed any bit of interest in Mavis’s manuscripts the owlite perked up. It wasn’t very often that anyone cared too much about her studies because most people would find it dull. “Oh! Uhm, if you ever want to come look at the collection of stuff I have... I have so many books on just about anything you could think of.” Unconsciously she started following him out into the hall way and she seemed to forget about everything else has she went on about her collection. “Ah, sorry. I can get a bit carried away... I enjoy learning new things and learning about the history of the world. It really is a wonderful and vast place.”

“I don’t see why they named it Centurian when it looks like a spider…” The owlite mumbles as she shuffles her notes from her book. Movement catches her attention from the corner of her vision and she notices a boyishly handsome man slip into the seat next to her. He’s looking at her with unnaturally green eyes that sparkle with a teal blue from the light pouring through the window and she notices the unusual canines leering at her from his charming smile. Mavis shuffles uncomfortably away, but just slightly as if not to be rude, offering a hesitant smile in return. “Y-yeah. I just arrived actually…” She fiddles with the corner of her book, the sound of the pages colliding comforting and familiar. When he offers his hand she takes it gently and shakes it a couple times with a smile. “Mavis. Nice to meet you too.”
Lucas didn’t catch the discomfort,  apparently, cause he stuck close and squeezed her hand a little, amused at how gently she took his own. The fiddling did catch his attention, finally, and he chuckled a bit, “Sorry, I kinda came out of nowhere,” the selkie leaned his elbows against the table, propping his cheek against one palm while keeping bright eyes on her. “Mavis, huh, where does that originate? Not heard a name like that before,” ever-curious, his eyes drop down to the book she’s messing with...ah right, they were in class. Ah well, it was almost time to go, anyway.
“I like your wings,” his attention couldn’t focus on one thing, could it? Absently, he reached up as if to touch, but stopped just before reaching the feathers. Pulling his hand back, realizing it was probably rude to just touch, he laughed softly, “Sorry, I don’t see wings on people often.” They looked so soft it was just to tempting...

It was unusual for Mavis to have a conversation with someone through text when they were standing right next to each other. That fact didn't bother the Owlite but simply made her more curious about the stranger. She watched the other quickly swipe out her message as Mavis read it over her shoulder.
"At Insolitus? Yes, I just came in a few days ago. Would you... Like to walk together?" Her light brown eyes looked hopefully over at Katarina. When she nodded Mavis smiled and turned toward the school. "Let's go."
"I love the rain. I love the sound of it softly hitting the earth and how the birds enjoy splashing in the puddles. It sucks to fly in though -- the rain pelting you in the face is not a nice feeling." The Owlite chuckled.

The Owlite twisted around on the picnic blanket, her wings spread wide as she stared up at the passing clouds. A loud sigh heaved from the boredom filling her with restlessness. It was her off day from class and while she had spent most of her morning studying she desired to do something else. But what she wasn't exactly sure. Maybe that's why she had come outside, perhaps to see the puppy demon again or her hyperactive classmate who she always seemed to be running into. Or maybe the pretty girl from the rain. Anyone at all.

Mavis had believed the sea had been her calling. There was nothing more delightful, more thrilling than being a float on those ever changing waters. Her crew had been her guide and her captain her mentor. Scrolls and artifacts, treasures and mystery. It was all the Owlite could have ever dreamed for. But everyone has to wake up.
"Wren!" The Owlite chirped excitedly as she gracefully fluttered her wings on her way down from the lookout until her feet were firmly on the deck. "I've been reading over this manuscript of the great traveler Alra and he talks about these curious artifacts from oils lamps to kettles and other various bobbles that contained enchanted beings within them. It sounds very much like what you told me. I've never heard of anything like this before."
The feathers on her wings ruffled in the salty ocean breeze as she leaned against the ship's rails and held the book out to the genie. "Look at this." A short taloned nail knocked on the image neatly drawn in the worn book's pages. There was an oil lamp with smoke coming from it and the torso of a human-like creature appearing out of the mist. "It seems like genies are attached to their items, but I don't know exactly what its purpose is just yet."

Oh, he was just in a grumpy mood. It didn’t help that the hallway was riddled with others in bad moods, especially for classes to be in right that moment–plus her anxiety, it made it a little difficult for the partial-empath to really be his puppyish self out in public. Normally that only popped up when he was alone with someone or when in a group of people he knew. So, the hard exterior was truly just a trick at this point.
His ear swiveled a little and he looked back down to her after offering the map back down, “Sorry,” he hadn’t meant to startle her, but from the ruffling feathers on top of the feeling of being slightly fearful, he knew he had. Her aura seemed to shift as well, but it was still quite calming, despite being a little jagged at the moment, probably due to anxiety and discomfort. “I’ll help you if you’d like,” he dropped his shoulders once most people were out, his tail swaying slowly behind him, more relaxed himself. But he tucked his hands back into his pockets and focused on her fully, powder-pink eyes curious rather than grumpy like moments before. he wasn’t huge on crowds, either, so this was better.
“I’m Chanyeol, I’ve been here a while,” he offered, trying to calm her down a bit, “Sorry if I scared you, I just don’t like hallways and crowds much.” But he couldn’t just leave the anxious-looking girl all by herself, either…go figure.
Her eyes sparkled when he offered his assistance. With him, moving through the hall was 100 times easier and the crowd parted around them as they continued through. “That’s okay, I don’t much like crowds either...” The owlite tucked the map into her bag since it seemed she wouldn’t be needing it now. “I’m Mavis. Thanks for helping...ah...what was it again?” He would probably being introducing himself at least a handful more times. “I’m actually really horrible with names to be honest.”
With a tilt of her head Mavis looked sideways at the man. "Thanks by the way. I think I might have freaked out and flown away if I kept getting crowded. It probably would not have been pretty.” Just imagine two six foot wings smacking a bunch of people and feathers scattering in a chaotic scene of panic.

Familiarizing herself with the school seems impossible considering her poor memory. Mavis clutches her texts closer to her as she navigates the hallway with the small map she had received from orientation. “It looks like I turn left up here.” She mutters to herself before taking the corner.
Students were hustling by on their way to class, some friends taking up a large chunk of the hall as they walk two, three, four across. Mavis’ wings bump one of the girls as she passes and she shoots her a glare. “Sorry.. Oh sorry.” It seems like now everyone is starting to bump shoulders with her and she squeezes her wings closer around her shoulders, desperately wanting to fly into the rafters away from this crowded hallway. Maybe if she just closed her eyes and kept going she’d make it there… And then she hears some muttering and a voice next to her.
Pulling her wing back she peers up at the sharp jawline of a dark haired man. His style is intimidating and the aura about him matches. Looking around, Mavis notices that no one seems to dare to get too close to her with this man standing next to her. Her body relaxes a bit and she sighs in relief. “Thank you.” She whispers.
He could feel her rising anxiety, he let out another sigh and glanced around, glad that his size tended to make people veer away. Tucking his hands into his pockets, Chanyeol looked back down to her, curious, as his canine-like ears swiveled, barely seen against his dark hair. The demon was a little grumpy at the moment, but for whatever reason, he just felt like he needed to help the poor woman out. Maybe it’s because of his friendship with another owlite, he knew how sensitive the wings could be..
Anyway, he reached down to the map that she was holding, a bit of a growl escaping him when a student accidentally bumped him while not paying attention, making them skitter a little faster past the two of them. “You lost?” his eyes lifted to her own, arching a brow slightly, “Figures, I’ve never seen you before.” Or smelled, which would have told him she was new, anyway. After looking the map over (he could have just asked he supposed) the hound offered it back to her, his shoulders relaxing some as the students around them thinned out. “You want some help?”

When she noticed he was drawing closer, Mavis sat back on the limb and raised a sheepish wave in his direction. He had been really friendly when they first met in class, so she had no real qualms with him except for when he had tried to touch her wings. Owlites in general were pretty protective of their wings not only for their sensitivity at times but the good luck charm aspect so many seemed to be after. And she wasn't sure but it seemed like even now he was still eyeing them.
The little nudge to her feet was kind of cute and the Owlite smiled sweetly down at the selkie as she felt for her kalimba. "Oh you heard it from that far huh?" She set the clear instrument on her lap. "It's a song I learned when I used to sail back in my realm. One of many actually. They're called shanties and the crew would sing them to keep everyone's spirits up during long journeys. Well...maybe not this one. It's kind of sad actually." Mavis hopped down with kalimba in hand and her wings swept the grass making it sway back and forth. "Oh, you wanna hear it?"
It had actually been a while since she had played in front of anyone and that little swell of nervous energy she'd had the first time she'd played in front of anyone who wasn't family came back for just a brief moment. "Ok." With a gentle beam, Mavis lifted the kalimba to play. The solemn tune carried itself around them and she began to sing softly.
"From the shell, A song of the sea
Neither quiet nor calm
Searching fiercely for my love
Between wind and between wave
Between flood and between beach
From the shell, A song of the sea"

Twilight was taking over the sky when the lanterns throughout Vighulir magically sprang to life. The lively sounds of chatter and the sound of hundreds of feet shuffling across the ground filled the air. Students from Insolitus trotted excitedly together for a night out at the pubs and admittedly the Owlite was a bit jealous of them. But Mavis wasn’t interested in the bustle of the town tonight rather she was interested in the stillness of the woods near it. This felt more like home being up in the trees and feeling the coarse bark against her back. The light blue tulle of her dress blew softly in the cool spring breeze as she rested against the trunk, one leg dangling off the thick branch she was perched on.
Long, manicured nails plucked gracefully at the clear acrylic kalimba and Mavis sang softly a song she had learned during the years of her adventures at sea. It was a song of longing for what was lost and while sad it gave the Owlite comfort. She often missed sailing the sea, but her experiences there had kept her on land for the passed hundred years. Maybe one day she might return there.
Lost in her thoughts and the tune of the song, Mavis was dead to the world, but when she opened her eyes to scan the horizon again she saw a familiar face. His long legs carried him coolly along the path and there was no denying that his side profile was quite handsome with his sharp jaw and strong cheekbones. Curious, Mavis stopped playing, placed her kalimba in her bag hanging from another branch, and crawled to the end of the branch to watch him. Her wings spread out to keep her balance. “Oh what was his name again?” She questioned herself.

It was nice to see such a friendly face among so many intense people she had met over the passed couple days. She felt more connected to him though she knew him the least.
"Oh you own a bookstore?" Mavis's eyes gleamed excitedly. "Would you... mind if I came to see it?" Maybe it was an Owlite thing to really love books being such intelligent creatures with strong memories for facts. "I haven't actually ventured to the village yet, being so.. noisy at times."

Shaking his hand, Mavis can’t help but feel a surge of elated energy welling up inside her. It was difficult, she supposed, for any owlite to be in unfamiliar territory especially with so many people all gathered in one place so seeing him gave her a great sense of relief. “This realm certainly isn’t a hot spot for our kind it seems. It’s nice to meet you too, Junmyeon.” It is almost humorous for the two to introduce themselves when they both know they more than likely won’t remember each other’s name later, but Mavis is sure she won’t forget his face. “Yes, I just arrived a couple days ago. It’s kind of overwhelming to be honest.” She admits with a sheepish smile. “Are you a student as well?”
“it is not, indeed…” His voice was soft and he spoke slow but well articulated as he took in her features and the little feathers in her hair that were so similar to those in his own hair. Only those were more like those of the striped owl and resembled ears.
“It is very intense here for sure with all the people…” He remembered his first few days and the faces and names were all a whirlwind of colors and he had been distressed beyond belief. He sometimes saw someone and he wondered if he had seen them before but wasn’t sure.
“Ah.. oh no dear… I am way too… Ah no I have a bookstore in the village.” he smiled, amused and pleased she would think he might be a student too- Take that Chanyeol.

"Well aren't ya the most beautiful treasure i've seen in the past sundown. I would be feedin' the fish if ya didn't tell me ya name, sea princess."
Golden-flecked eyes lifted to meet the owner of the voice calling to her. His speech was not one she had heard in some years, but the lingo never left her much like her love for the sea. A faint blush crept up her cheeks at the complement and she raised the book she was perusing to cover it. “Mavis, sir.” She closed the book and rested it against her chest. “I guess I’ve been a landlubber too long. I’d almost forgotten what it was like to speak with someone like this.” Mavis chuckled lightly.

Jailed Bird |д・) Mavis&
“I can’t believe they keep them locked up like this...” Mavis gawked at the numerous birds locked in cages, some plain others rather elaborate. Her heart was particularly drawn to the screech owl that was curiously staring at her from over its wing from within a white wrought iron cage. The owlite tightened her fingers around the metal and pressed her forehead against the cage. “I’ll get you out winiho.” The bird’s wings fluttered.
Help us.
She couldn’t ignore their cries of fear and it brought tears to Mavis’s eyes. There had to be a way she could get them out without the shopkeeper noticing. She glanced sideways at the lively faun shopkeeper waving for people to come in and explore her wares. “If you aren’t going to buy one move along.” The faun snapped through a misleading grin. “You’re blocking my merchandise.”
The owlite moved along, stepping around the nearest corner and leaning against the wall to glance back around at the stall selling the birds. It would be impossible to save them all at once because all the cages were locked, but she couldn’t just choose at random which ones to save--she wanted to save them all! “I have to help them.” She mused aloud.

Rain was no surprise for a creature who could predict the weather. Mavis was just thankful that there was no thunder with this storm since it always kept her on edge. The pitter patter of the rain on the ground was soothing after a long day of classes. She was starting to regret enrolling in so many, but her love for knowledge helped her power through the exhaustion.
With a steadying sigh the owlite stared up at the grey, misty clouds through her clear umbrella, reflexively blinking every now and then when large raindrops would startle her. Just letting the coolness of the afternoon storm engulf her was a blessed reprieve. Turning to start on her walk again, Mavis noticed a gorgeous dark haired woman seeking shelter from the storm under a tree. As soon as she saw her, her eyes darted away as if she was ashamed to have looked upon someone so beautiful (that and because she was so shy). Nervous butterflies tickled her insides and she was tempted to turn the other way and go, but she felt more guilty for the idea of leaving her out in the rain especially with a bag of groceries.
Carefully walking over, Mavis dipped her umbrella over the stranger’s head to block the falling drops. Her smile unsettled the owlite and she found herself blushing lightly as she rubbed her arm timidly and looked away. But her eyes were drawn back to the woman when she held out her phone with a typed message. Despite her travels Mavis had never learned English, so she could only piece together the Korean portions. “My English isn’t very good,” she explained in Korean, “but I understand Korean.”
Broken Umbrella ~ Mavis and Katarina
The tears of skies has appeared on the ground Cloud which stares at the moon while hiding stars Old streets, sound of my lonely footsteps becomes an echo. I was a bit tense when I turned around
Well wasn’t this just inconvenient?
When she had left her classes the weather had seemed okay, a bit cloudy but nothing odd for a spring day. It was only when she was walking back that the sky suddenly broke upon and the rain began to cascade upon her.
Tucking her grocery bag under her cardigan the witch made a run for a flock of tree’s off to the side of the road hiding beneath their leaves to wait out the storm. After a good hour of shifting her weight from foot to foot she was almost certain the rain was never going to stop. She didn’t have many options; wait it out, call someone to help her get back to the dorms or just make a run for it. The latter was the least feasible given the bag of food in her arms but it had been tempting.
Just as she was pulling out her phone to send a message, the edge of an umbrella dipped in her direction covering her from the few droplets managing to get through the leaves. Green eyes glanced up in surprise to find a girl standing there with the umbrella and she smiled, relief taking over her features. Typing quickly on her phone she held the screen out to the other with a message typed in troubled Korean and English under it - never knew what people spoke at the school.
‘Ah, thank you! I got stuck in the rain, no umbrella. My Korean language skills aren’t very good I apologize.’

Junmyeon smiles at the other as she seems excited, she must be a tad younger than him but that did not matter at all. “It is very nice to meet you Mavis, we are a rare kind aren’t we?” he smiles at her, a wave of familiarity and calm comes over him at the sight of the pretty owlite girl. It was… so soothing to see her here. “I am… Junmyeon.” he introduces himself and offers his hand to the girl. “You a student at the academy?”
