Star of Bethlehem... originated in Europe and Asia and migrated to the U.S. as an ornamental garden plant, but got away and is now considered a wildflower here too...

Slender Yellow Wood Sorrel in the North Carolina Woodlands... my first encounter with this species! Can be used as a food source in limited quantity because of high oxalic acid content which gives it a bitter taste... seen by some as a yard weed, which is a pity...

there is a neighborhood down the road from where I live, just outside Chapel Hill, NC... it's called the Southern Village... among the many nice homes, in the center of the village is a town square with restaurants, a grocery store, movie theater and medical offices, and a greenspace in the middle of it all, used for viewing films outdoors and for music performance... the other night Nettie and I took in a performance of the Sugaree String Society... it was a lovely warmish April evening and the music was quite good... covers and originals in rootsy old-time Appalachian Mountain style... there are quite a number of performing musicians playing with similar old time influences in this region where I live...

After I purchased a new guitar last summer, I realized shortly thereafter that it needed a set-up badly... I hunted fruitlessly high and low for a guitar luthier/tech in the Triangle area for months, and then realized that at the shop where I take music lessons were located two of the best techs in the area... they have a steady backlog of work and do a great job... they were kind enough to let me make portraits of them at their work...

There's a wonderful, through the woods, trail in my village that we walk frequently until the ticks take over... I've been told that two of the oldest Loblolly Pines are along that trail. Loblolly's which are ubiquitous in the southeast are magnificent tall trees with rich brown, deep craggy bark, that can grow two feet per year!

this is Spence who works the sales counter at my local guitar shop... he's affable and an all around great guy... he plays bass in several head-banging, heavy metal groups in town, so I took a portrait of him holding a bass... he was a great subject... looks like he could have walked off the set of a Viking movie with a broad sword instead of a bass!
