Maybe I am exaggerating- and I do not want to make anybody feel bad because for this - but I think that mental health is kind of the new “dark side”. People criticize, discriminate, and minimize everything of what we feel.
Many movies represent the reality of being gay in the society through the years. A variety of movements were also created around the world to fight for the LGBTI+ around the world. They showed us how difficult was for any gay person to live in the 70’s or the 80’s in the occidental countries, how they lived in the “dark side” for so much time of their lives, hiding who they are, being so indefense, trying to show something far different of how they really are or feel.
We also have lots, tons of movies about drugs, how being a drug addict could kill you, how bad and dark is the drugs world, drugs trafficking, how all this impact in the life of the addict and the lives of everybody who love and want to take care of them.
Luckily and thankfully, I believe that the visibility given to both of them made us better persons as we realized that being different make us equals, and that everybody is fragile and needed to be understood.
Nowadays, we can see a few series and movies that are putting mental health as the theme. We are starting to see that it is not just being crazy, that in mental health we find real diseases that need to be treated, that sometimes we need to fight against our mind until death.
Is today the day to understand that mental health matters? To teach and learn the impact of the mental health in our lives? What do you think?
