USAGI 3.0 Review

Hello again, everyone! The weather is getting hotter here and it’s officially summertime! My school year has ended so I have more time for other things. Today’s review is of an UTAU I’ve seen around a lot but never got around to using. Usagi’s 3.0 comes with multiple voicebanks but I decided to just review the core one.

Usagi has an official site on Weebly. The 3.0 package under “Usagi DL” is what you’ll want to look for.

First Impressions

Usagi 3.0 is a tripitch, sweet & girly voice with three pitches, notably one at A6. I was pretty impressed with her range and how unique she manages to sound.

Configuration

Usagi has a great mid-high range and a unique accent with a lisp. Her pronunciation overall isn’t too bad. The only extras she has are end breaths and a few extra phonemes.

There are some awkwardly recorded sample, mostly on the C5 pitch…? Ok, I need a visual for this.

The red line represents the frequency of the recording. If the frequency gets too off center it can cause the recording to sound corrupted when in UTAU, even if it sounds fine while listening to it. I mention this because a lot of Usagi’s C5 notes sound hoarse and strange, and this seems to be the cause. Editing the frqs doesn’t really help. Resampler choice can sometimes fix it though.

Her A6 is very gentle and falsetto-like, so it usually doesn’t sound good in lower ranges. It has a “chipmunk” kind of tone. This voice is supposed to be stron gby default but it comes across as more neutral.

Nevertheless, she’s very fun to tune. I love putting vocal runs and dips on her <3

Final Thoughts

Usagi is a solid voice with a few hiccups here and there. Still, she’s a great addition to the UTAU universe-and if this voicebank sounds unappealing, she has appends.

Hello! Sorry for inactivity, I haven't been getting any notifs so I kinda gave up haha! So lately I've been drawing Disabled Hatsune Miku, my Headcanon is that she is disabled. Diabetic, Deaf/HOH, ambulatory chair and cane user, hip dysplasia (though I don't always draw because my bodys anatomy is super hard). I really hope you like these arts! Thankies!
