He straightened up and gave the other man one of his smiles.

“Jin Ling came to me and seems he did something that unfortunately upset you, again. I came to assure you he is safe in Lanling.”

His hands joined in his back as he stepped a bit closer to the table. “I don’t know what he did this time, but I beg you to be lenient with him. We both know this period is not an easy one for him. Or for you.” As he spoke, his eyes slid over the table, catching sight of what was leaning on it. The dark amber gaze then lasted over Jiang Cheng through the line of long lashes.

If it was a hard period for Jin Ling, it might be just as hard for Sect leader Jiang.

After all, it was Jiang Cheng’s sister's death anniversary.
