Notes for Midnight: Tales of Arcadia OC Fanfic
The notes aren't going to be set in a particular order; they'll mention what will change, be different, what's going to be fixed, added or removed, and what to expect in the Rewrite of Midnight.
The most important note: Midnight is NOT a Jim x Reader fanfic. It's an OCxOC Fanfic. I don't like doing OCxCC fanfics.
Their last name is no longer "Ryder"; it's changed to "Mun" as they are Korean.
Blake's older sibling's name changed to Ha-Yun "Haylen" Mun. Ash's name remains the same. Her mother's name is Haneul "Hannah" Mun, and their father's name is Ji-U "Jim" Mun.
Blake calls Jim "James" as that was how he introduced himself at auditions, and it's the same name as her deceased father. It would feel weird for Blake to call James "Jim".
Blake and Haylen were born with Albinism. Ash has vitiligo; half of their bangs and eyebrow is white and there are small patches on their face, fingers, and shoulders - they're adopted, which explains why they don't have Albinism like Blake and Haylen.
Since Blake is Albino, it's expected for her to be weak to sunlight, she wears sunscreen and wears sunglasses to protect her eyes. Her vision is 20/30, and she can see without glasses but would need glasses to see further than 25 feet. Haylen is the same, however, her vision is 20/50 and always wears her glasses.
The mother is emotionally unavailable and still grieves after their husband's passing 4 years ago. During that time, she had nobody to talk to because Blake and Ash were still young, and she had no close friends in Arcadia to comfort and support her - all of her friends were back in Korea.
In the beginning, Blake takes care of Ash. She became the substitute parent for Ash for the past 4 years. Before the passing of their father and Haylen's husband, Haylen went to Korea to have a high school reunion, then she stayed longer than expected when she heard her husband died the same day as her father. Haylen moves to Arcadia after 4 years of therapy and support from her high school friends. Hannah, Haylen, and Blake have a strained relationship ever since the passing of their father/husband.
Midnight will mostly be in Blake's point of view and eventually go into their own plot, so there can be room for character development. However, they'll still be involved in the Trollhunters original storyline in the series. (I noticed Midnight is in Jim's point of view from the start of the series. I just wrote Trollhunters and just threw Blake's story in there.)
Blake has slightly broken English. She can speak and understand Korean but can't read and write Korean due to her neglecting her Korean studies after studying English for so long.
In Chapter 6: Fears, Blake is traumatized by her past relationship, with her ex-boyfriend. I will be removing that. Instead, he'll do something unsettling that doesn't involve anything dark, just creepy and disturbing.
Blake will have difficulty forming relationships because she was manipulated into thinking humans are evil while under Bular's wing and being "Gunmar's Champion".
The current published Midnight on Wattpad has 65 chapters (excluding the regards and announcement chapters which make 67 chapters). I was able to narrow it down to 25 chapters. The chapters will be longer than the current Midnight has, and they have more interesting titles too(lol).
Blake changes sides later, not during "The Battle of Two Bridges". I changed it further into the future because I want to keep that idea where Blake has difficulty forming relationships and changing from being "Gunmar's Champion" to "Trollhunter".
Blake is Pansexual in the currently published Midnight, but I changed it to Aroace. She still dates Spenser but is strictly platonic, with little romantic attraction.
When Blake goes to the Darklands to save Jim and through Shadow Portals to scout the area, the sickness or darkness accelerates from 23 days to 18 days. I'm removing that idea. Instead, it's strong negative emotions that'll accelerate the Corruption and they're not numbered. It feeds on anything dark within the user of the Midnight Amulet. Then that Corruption takes a physical form in the user's mental space born from their negative emotions. I initially chose ten emotions, but I narrowed it down to feelings associated with anger: jealousy, anger, resentment, frustration, and irritation.
Instead of calling it "Sickness" or "Darkness", I decided to call it Corruption because it sounds cooler lmao.
Haylen is still a support system for Blake when she wields the Midnight Amulet. In the original story, Haylen wielded the Midnight Amulet and the Corruption doesn't get her. This didn't make sense since the Daylight Amulet doesn't choose a new wielder till the current user dies. So I made it Haylen's husband to wield the amulet and Haylen writes notes about the amulet. That's how she knows about the Midnight Amulet.
Blake and her mother will fight a lot. This fighting starts after the passing of their father/husband. Blake avoids her and Hannah doesn't care about what she does with her life, she just doesn't want her to act like a delinquent or out of line, like letting her grades slip.
In Midnight Rewrite, small scenes will appear from Daybreak(3BELOW OC Fanfic) and Meridian(Wizards OC Fanfic), but still kept in Blake's point of view in those scenes. For example, take Season 3, Episode 9: "In Good Hands", from Jim's point of view, Aja and Krel are helping the Trollhunters get lightning in a bottle. Meanwhile, in 3BELOW, from Aja's point of view, she thinks Jim has her serrator, but it actually turns out to be his amulet. For the scene in Meridian, the scene will be original and set before Wizards takes place.
Blake's personality has changed. Now she's a badass bitch, but selectively caring to people she genuinely cares about. So, there are going to be major changes to who she likes and dislikes.
The Dawn Amulet hasn't been figured out until later, since the Midnight Amulet was corrupted and lost after one use and it's unknown if there ever was Dawn Armor created.
Spenser will be properly introduced in the first few chapters. In the currently published Midnight, I just sort of threw him in there without any context. He was just a guy who showed up and started dating Blake a day or so after Jim when into the Darklands.
Since Blake is 17 years old, she is in her senior year (she skipped a grade) and should be placed in a different class, not in the same class as Jim since he's in sophomore year.
Blake and Strickler will have a father-daughter-like relationship, where Strickler sees her as the daughter he never had and Blake sees him as a father she wished she has.
These are all the notes I have to mention. There's nothing else for me to add for the rewrite of Midnight. I tried so hard to not give anything away for spoilers or hints for the rewrite of Midnight because I'd like to surprise my readers with the big plans and changes I have for Midnight.
It may take more waiting, but I'm actually really looking forward to sharing the new rewritten version of Midnight! Thank you to those who actually liked reading the old Midnight; even if it was poorly written and told by a 16-year-old girl who lacked lots of writing skills.
