nah but i think it’s a mistake not to accept that the oblivion dark brotherhood has a very…eh i don’t know if i’ll say culty in all seriousness, and unhealthy seems a bit obvious, but it’s not a structure where everyone is playing on even grounds or operating in a reasonable headspace.

while the skyrim brotherhood’s loose structure means that even the conflict between cicero and astrid doesn’t escalate to an in-house murder until cicero tries to kill everyone (a fact that many of his adoring fans dislike acknowledging), the oblivion dark brotherhood goes scorched earth at the slightest provocation. this is not the structure of a loving family and it’s not the action of a loving father or mentor. lucien lachance is more loyal to the set of rules he follows than he is his fellows and this is not an admirable trait but one of indoctrination. this adherence to an arbitrary set of rules is also what allows mathieu to get as far as he does and results in lucien’s own death at mathieu’s hands.

the hierarchical and harsh structure of the oblivion dark brotherhood creates a system of power that is easily misused (not to mention the night mother’s own role in this phenomenon) and i think ignoring the undertones of that structure in favor of what almost seems to be an au version of the organization leaves a lot of potential story richness out in the sun to shrivel up and die.

okay SO. Hi, I’m Octavius, and for the past year and some change I’ve been forced to live at home with my rapist and it’s naturally been stressful as hell. However, I finally have a really good deal lined up to move out of here around January/February. I want to be as cushioned as possible for when I move out, so I’m looking for help raising about two months worth of rent to cover me while I move out. I’m also trying to get my name changed, which is going to be a pretty penny. Anything extra would go to bills: phone bill, bus fare, stuff like that.

I have a job right now, but they’ve flat out refused to my face to give me the hours I need so. Fun.
