How They Rescued Titanic's Passengers: Carpathia's Wild Dash
youtube
In the early hours of April 15th, 1912 the RMS Carpathia's lone wireless operator Harold Cottam picked up his headset for one last listen before turning in for bed. What he heard shocked him to his core; RMS Titanic, the newest liner of the White Star Line, was sinking fast. Carpathia's story as a hero rescue ship is a fascinating one, and this video explores how in the night of the disaster RMS Carpathia rushed to the rescue of RMS Titanic.

I was tagged by @rhavewellyarnbag thanks so much! i love having something to do during a slow Monday at work :)
Are you named after anyone? My mum and grandma.
When was the last you cried? I‘ve cried a bit during the last week, while reading certain parts of the three final books of the Expanse series. I just love these space idiots and the stupid little feelings they make me feel.
What sports do you play/have you played? Closest thing would be swimming classes as a kid, which i did for a few years, but when my parents were convinced enough that i wouldn’t drown if left to my own devices at Northern beaches, they let me drop out. I'm not a sporty person.
Do you use sarcasm? Only with very specific friends, and less and less as i grow older.
What is the first thing you notice about people? Probably accents and body language. Oh, and tattoos if you have any. I remember that shit a lot.
What is your eye color? Dark brown.
Scary movies or happy endings? Horror movies all the way. I’ve watched a LOT of trash through the years, and still enjoyed (at least parts of) it almost every time. It’s my comfort genre.
Any talents? I’m reasonably good with languages. Most of it, i think, comes from having studied a second one from a young age. Also i discovered later in life that, while my innate sense of orientation is not the best, i’m really good at not getting lost in urban environments.
Where were you born? Allá donde se cruzan los caminos, donde el mar no se puede concebir…
What are your hobbies? Mmmm. I enjoy beer, travelling, cooking for friends, horror, rotating the blorbos-du-jour in my mind, the sea, wikipedia rabbit holes, trying new food and sleeping. I don’t know if i would call any of those hobbies, though.
Do you have any pets? Not at the moment. I’ve had both dogs and cats and i love them equally. But i’m now allergic to cats and dogs are a hell of a commitment. If anything, i could see myself having a pet rat. I’d call him Cornelius.
How tall are you? Around 1.60 or, as google informs me, 5’2
Favorite subject at school? History/Geography.
Dream job? Honestly, what i want is to retire. But i have a long way before that…
I’d like to tag @ishmaels @bus-drivers-hate-her @pulquedeguayaba @cannellaeluce and whoever feels like it :)

I want to write a book called “your character dies in the woods” that details all the pitfalls and dangers of being out on the road & in the wild for people without outdoors/wilderness experience bc I cannot keep reading narratives brush over life threatening conditions like nothing is happening.
I just read a book by one of my favorite authors whose plots are essentially airtight, but the MC was walking on a country road on a cold winter night and she was knocked down and fell into a drainage ditch covered in ice, broke through and got covered in icy mud and water.
Then she had a “miserable” 3 more miles to walk to the inn.
Babes she would not MAKE it to that inn.

Thing is, I do now understand what the guys in the Franklin Expedition went through. Toiling under such ardous conditions, utterly hopeless, slowly losing my mind as pieces of my body fall off of my body (working an office-type job while on my period and being Very Brave about it).

10 little sailors
Ten little sailors were drinking wine, one coughed up some blood and then there were nine.
Nine little sailors tried to rescue a mate, one drowned in the sea and then there were eight.
Eight little sailors talked about Heaven, one fell into a hole and then there were seven.
Seven little sailors were cleaning candlesticks, one set himself on fire and then there were six.
Six little sailors tried to stay alive, one ran into a knife and then there were five.
Five little sailors felt a little sore, one ingested poison and then there were four.
Four little sailors said “What will be will be”, one walked out into nothingness and then there were three.
Three little sailors were eating a shoe, one died of scurvy and then there were two.
Two little sailors ran to grab a gun, one charged a giant bear and then there was one.
One little sailor sat under the sun. He tried to challenge the bear…
And then there were none.
