Professional IT janitor and unprofessional doodler. Don't get started talking about dogs. Here, queer, unsure what to do about it. 35+, he/they and tired.
Another year, another year end art review. I reflect, I say some nice things about my stuff, mostly I complain.
2023 was a fuck of a year, tbh. The art (and other) issues of 2022 carried through and did not let up for a moment. I don't have any way to reflect without being completely negative, so I won't. I don't hold out that much hope for 2024 but who knows, not me.
As previous years, below the cut is a piece a month I like. Some months, the choices were very slim.
January - doodle dumb
I started the year doing dev for a selfish story "idea". While I could get the characters designs pretty much where I want them, that's about it.
February - some portraits and an answered question
Not much to say about this - more development work. I only partially answered the question cause only Petra is really named - Warden doesn't (and won't) get an actual name and the third one only has a temp name. Again, I think about them often, my GNC little OC family.
March - moodle doodles, FF14 creeping in
More dev but also me noodling on FF14. I do, sometimes, really miss playing a elezen but gosh, isn't it hard to look good in armor sometimes. (I don't have much to say about this otherwise)
April - running with the wolves
A lot of Petra's story is shaped by the stories and things that I love, so this is just me feeling out ideas. Looking back at this, despite it being part of my new regular "no plan just yeet lines" method of drawing, I think the composition of this came out pretty good and it doesn't tell a little story.
May - henna
Tears released and I no life'd the game for a while. While this piece really suffers from a problem I keep seeing with my art (thick and oppressive linework), I do enjoy the details in this. It was fun looking up henna and trying to adapt parts of her design into them.
June - new icon
New icon! I'm getting tired of it now but whatever.
July - basic catboy
For some reason, around June/July, I wanted to draw in this style. I did a few things like this. I did this not long after changing to miqo'te and still kind of like it. I did a good job I thing balancing detail with simple considering how the gear is.
August - I miss them (derogatory)
It's Them, my favourite FF14 ship that I can't talk to anyone about. My major regret about this is that I did get really lazy near the end. Some of the new things I tried with this kind of work but, as usually, my line work just really brings it all down.
September - nothing
While I drew in September, it was the start of the comic project. I didn't really post anything to be seen, unfortunately.
October - repostober
It was nice reposting a lot of stuff that I both really still liked. I've been posting art on tumblr since 2015 and I've done a lot. I've grown a lot. It was also nice to have something to show people while the comic project slowly trucked along.
November - talk to me I'll listen
The comic project. I went in with a poorly thought out script, barely any thumbnails or planning and no idea how to draw almost everyone that appears. While I don't think it looks good (it's too busy, again my lines ruin it) - I did complete it. That's something.
December - play card
The latest. I just wanted to draw fabric and had pretty bad artblock after the comic completed. I think the thing I like most about this is the nails. I really enjoy the nails I draw Mido with - I wish I had them in game.
Randomly peeking in to see if you're still taking commissions? I love your work.
Thank you anon for the ask, this actually caused me a lot of thought. I'm not sure what I'd call my status is but, yes, I can technically still do commissions.
With full understanding that the tumble gods will strike this post down, here's my ko-fi commissions.
Art lately has been a slow process between working full time, dysfunction and poor time management (I have just gotten into the grind that is Eureka, RIP me). But I still try and am forever grateful for the people that like my art.
Anyways, here's the current WIP I'm slowly working on.
