Hello there, Becomers!

It’s that time, oh you know it’s that time - today I’m finishing up the project of making this blog related to my Song List :)

Started on 2017.01.17, ended on 2021.02.22. 3⅓ years or 1 225 days. 2963 positions at the beginning, 1246 positions at the end. 483 posts. One post on average every 2,5 day.

The difference may seem huge, understandably so, but it didn’t fell like it as I was revising the list. Moreover, basically only the First Three Songs shall never be removed from the list, meaning everything else can (and did, if taken a closer look at some posts I’ve made).

Before disclosing some final thoughts that I would love to share (I will try to keep them brief to not hold you here for hours to an end :) I would also mention today’s date, which is very important too - do you remember that Excel project about timestamps? (SL0265) So in exactly 3 years I will live the same number of days like Truman did :)

The Truman Show (1998)

Returning to the subject, the idea behind starting this project in the first place wasn’t very serious - every once in a while I would just do a little purge, usually to a fraction of the Song List. At the end of 2017 the number of pieces grew to almost 3 thousand and while expanding the list is never a problem, I prefer to keep it in rather updated version. To have stronger connections to what I’m giving my attention to, not just piling it up.

It started out slowly, from posts with mondegreens and funny associations, and if it would stay that way, then the blog would had ended after a year or so, true to my initial thought. However I got a little too ambitious and in a meantime I also added four compilations (in chronological order: “La La La/Na Na Na”; “They Miss Me, They Need Me, They Want Me”; “Did I Stutter?” and “How to Spell that Again?”) plus the “Baby” counter later, meaning that some songs took insane amount of time to be prepared.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

I’m talking about countless hours of listening to the tracks. Deciding if they are worth to be on my final list (in the instance when they weren’t there yet or used to be), if they should stay on it or if they should be removed. Comparing them with each other. Counting the repeated words. Hunting for the “babies”.

Moving on, searching for the materials. Considering their quality. Spending another eternity on watching them and finding the good fragments to use them later. And finally creating the drafts for the posts - I usually had around 50 of them, so it was kind of weird to see the number of them drop during those two last months :)

But to be honest, it wasn’t even the worst thing - it's the Song List itself.

Dragon Tiger Gate (2006)

By definition it’s always changing, so I add someting there, remove something elsewhere, and would you look at it, it’s different every time. Going with that I could continue with the blog for many years to come. And I would be miserable by doing so.

Don’t get me wrong - I enjoyed every aspect of the project, even if at times it was getting exasperating, but I don’t think I would like to keep on doing it as there is a possibility that someday my Song List might not contain any of the tracks I used here on this site at the beginning.

And no, I didn’t forget about my promise from that time - I fully intend to keep it as I finished the project with the desired effect I had in mind :)

In most of those “blue” cases I managed to find some other sources, where they were avaliable, if you will be interested to give them a try. In the same folder you can also find the “Baby Chant” from SL0468 :)

To sum it up, it was definitely a great experience :) It was a tremendous challenge to keep it running and I managed to pull it off, of which I’m very proud. I will reminiscent about every minute I spent on it for many upcoming months, if not years, as I’m not done with my Song List, oh no - it’s just the end of this specific journey of sharing it with you here.

And maybe it will motivate some of you, my Becomers, to start something on your own as my blog is a proof that you can do anything if you put your mind into something and give it some time to grow :)

Thank you for stopping by, for every amount of time you spent here with me. It was really rewarding to discover why specific type of posts were visited by you, to have this little glimpse of interests, shared together, even if they’re not manifested in the same way. And if I could have one request - please put the names of the songs in the sources when using them - it surely helps a lot :)

I'm keeping my asks box open in case some of you will find any kind of mistakes in my posts, whenever that might be, or if having any questions. I might not answer right away, but nevertheless I will try to do this as soon as possible.

Song List 0468 - Fool's Garden - Lemon Tree

Well, at least for me is - for some it’s already Monday :)

I won’t have a chance of celebrating the 12th anniversary of creating my Song List that will happen in March with you all, but I can still mention something about it, right? :)

For the past two years (SL0314 and SL0384) I presented the first two songs that I had put on the list and “Lemon Tree” was the third one. Something about that crash at the beginning really got me, I suppose.

Coincidentally today’s song is also the third from the end and the next post will actually be the last one.

So how about joining me in that moment, Becomers? :)

Song Lost 0467 - Frank Sinatra - One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)

The concept of calling someone a “baby” was always baffling me. While I understand the idea, in Polish it can be used as an insult and there are other much stronger associations with that word, such as an actual baby or ...

Babe (1995)

for example. I unexpectedly thought of the latter when hearing the “baby” phrase once and my life’s never been the same since :)

In 2017 I’ve made a post regarding the “Who chanted the baby more” (SL038). I presume it was also the moment when my brain started warming up to the counting I used later in “Na Na Na”/”La La La” compilations (at least that’s my theory :) So wouldn’t you know, I thought that if I already did count the variations of the word “baby” in three songs, then why won’t I do it again? Going even further - why don’t I extract them and compile them in one big file? You know, for fun?

I didn't fight myself on it very long and soon succumbed to the joy of cutting the desired parts out. I must say I find some of the cuts very satisfying :) And as today’s song it’s the fourth one from the end ...

... in the next few days, when it’s all gonna be over, beside the Song List I promised to share with you, I will also present you with this monstrosity :)

For now I can only reveal it’s mixed from 236 songs in total, set in chronological order by years and it lasts for nearly 25 minutes and 28 seconds.

THE END OF COMPILATION - GENERAL THOUGHTS:

Started on 2017.10.24, finished on 2021.02.18; total of the songs used - 291. It was my first compilation, for which I had high hopes at first, albeit it truly started to shine during the last year (inverse growth in comparison). Perhaps it’s also the most confusing one as the main idea changed from analysing choruses to whole songs. Additionaly I started to count the words/phrases I found being repeated (like how could I predict the outcome of that, right? :)

Despite the fact that all of my compilations have come to an end there is one more thing related to the one from today that I got to share with you. You could say it’s some sort of a bonus round and I can’t wait for you to hear (about) it. However it will have to wait till tomorrow (gotta put those finishing touches :)

THE END OF COMPILATION - GENERAL THOUGHTS:

Started on 2017.11.11, finished on 2021.02.13; total of the songs used - 396. It was made on the spur of a moment when I noticed how many songs were otherwise unused at the time. It kind of came back at me, given how it turned out to be the biggest from my compilations (almost 100 posts :) After all it’s relatively easy to just take the lyrics out of context. Slightly modifying the general idea (involving more than titular phrases) made it grew inversely compared to one other still ongoing “La La La” compilations - by the way you can find the latter through the tags or the Masterlist.

Started on 2018.03.16, finished on 2021.02.12; total of the songs used - 92. Created as the third in order (from four bigger compilations). Given the rule of spotting the “stuttering” mostly at the beginning of the sentences this series was slowly, but consistently growing over time. The most problematic thing during creating this type of posts was recognizing the stuttering in the first place and then drawing the line of what was actually repeated - the word or the syllable. I feel that that the starting and the ending songs perfectly tie the theme :)

THE END OF COMPILATION - GENERAL THOUGHTS:

Started on 2018.09.09, finished on 2021.02.11; total of the songs used - 25. One of four bigger compilations, created as the last one. While I was predicting a whole lot more work to do in it, thanks to the rule (look at the REMINDER) it turned out to not be that complicated. I definitely enjoyed making the “unraveling word” kind of gifs, such as the one above, however it impacted the quality of the outcoming file. By coincidence I managed to start and finish with the same source of songs, which is Whose Line, thus by accident having come full circle. Not that I’m complaining :)
