himitsu no aipri episode 2 (from last week but didn't have the mental capacity to spellcheck until now)

I was awake for 22 hours on saturday so I just slept right through this ep with no hesitation...

op thoughts this time: do you think Himari, Mitsuki, Chii, and mystery aipri are going to form a 4-person unit to mirror the student council? (update: I have seen the mystery aipri spoiler info since writing this and yeah. looks like a 3-person unit is way more likely.) Chii seems like she's just the joke/worldbuilding-infodump character so I keep catching myself thinking they won't give her much screen time or let her perform in cgi, but there's not really anything to support that. and in the op, it shows all 4 "together" (well, mystery aipri is in the phone but) so it could be foreshadowing...?

Sakura is cool. I'm having a hard time separating Bear and Rosession's personalities from each other, but I think I do like Sakura at least.

the last ep had me believing that Himari knew Mii-chan was Mitsuki.... what's going on here it's like her memory was wiped between episodes

so much brother content in this ep. why are they on the verge of being more fleshed out than the main characters

wow, I saw it in the ep preview but I'm still surprised that Chii squeezed a performance in here, even if it was only for one single second. so is she actually only there to be the rival...?

Mitsuki's stage is so pretty, I love the water and moon and stars and neon all together. her song is fine? I like it more than P.O.P.P.Y at least.

they said in the beginning of the ep that the buzzalume change is caused by the audience's reaction, but mystery aipri's line here implies she has the final say in whether they can do it or not? she does seem to be part of 'the system' or whatever given her triangle eyes, so I guess those don't have to be two mutually exclusive facts, if they're both true.

oh my god!! I didn't expect Himari to solve her problems through violence. it's so funny that she forcibly took a secret charm from Mitsuki... easily the most exciting moment in all of aipri so far. and the only one that was like... not totally predictable...? I'm sorry I can't think of a less rude way to say it :( overall, I am enjoying the show enough to keep watching it. even if it stays at this exact amount of depth/complexity, mindless cuteness is enough to carry a show for me sometimes. when I'm watching a pretty series show is one of those times. there's nothing about it that I'd even deem actively bad, it's just... not on the level of every other priseries show up till now. but it could still change!!

can't care about the plot of next week's ep, but I'm looking forward to meeting new characters. please be interesting...

himitsu no aipri episode 1 (a week late)

it's been so long since I've written about a priseries (or any other idol) show... I'm realizing that I legit didn't think I'd ever get the chance again. I got tired of doing it before because I felt like I was either complaining too much (planet) or just happy abt everything that was happening (primagi) and thus had nothing interesting to say either way, but ever since watching aipri on sunday I've been looking forward to this... I think I'm just happy about new idol anime content after such a long drought tbh but it's something good that aipri has already brought us, no matter what you or I think of anything else about it.

I missed the first 5 minutes bc I was reading bad fanfiction in bed to wake up (nigh daily routine) and totally forgot abt aipri... then I did remember and had to sprint to my computer, but the stream kept stopping so I missed some critical stuff throughout. I liked the ep okay, but maybe actually seeing all of it will improve it?

ohhh ok it starts off with those cute lemon coords in the op. actually this does help, those coords are easily my favs that I've seen in aipri so far. esp Mitsuki's blue one is sooo cute... I am saying this as a person that buys every single blue gingham item of clothing I come across though haha. I will say that the coord & dance totally don't match the sort of sweeping fairytale (just mistyped that as dairytale. hm) majesty that the bgm and voiceover is going for, but...

oh, I didn't know that Mitsuki had a snippet of performance in here. I've seen it in gameplay videos already, I like it ok---wow, it's already over.

the way Mitsuki is pausing for her viewers to answer is just like shows for preschoolers... they're really going after that age group, huh. (do actual streamers do stuff like that....?)

oh, I already saw Himari get a call from her sister. looks like I only missed 1 minute.

that is the ugliest anime dog I've ever seen, hands down, but Hiiro is cute. I'm sure she's well on her way to being the Non or whoever the prichan little sister was of aipri, in terms of popularity.

I do think it is very, very interesting that in this pretty series anime which is aimed at perhaps the youngest audience yet, they have put the mc in a dorm, away from her family. weird. actually I am for the first time realizing exactly how many anime have schools with dorms. you'd think japan is overflowing w boarding schools but idk of a single one lmao...

Himari's look out of aipri is really cute, I've finally decided. it's a shame that her twintails as an aipri are such a weird shape??? why do they curve up on the outside like that, all I can see is a large intestine when I look at them...... :(

the first time I watched this my internet cut out just as Mitsuki's face was approaching Himari's. I knew what she was doing bc of the comic in the aipri fanbook, but still it was like, oh! looks like it's gonna be another totally straight pretty series show!

oh man, the op. the song itself is cute and catchy, but this vtuber's voice is just too much, and it gets more too much as the song goes on. I get the appeal of her being a "real-life aipri", and presumably she's popular so her fans might be drawn to watch, but I hope she doesn't sing the next op too..... oh you know what would be kind of cool is if every op was sung by a different vtuber. that way if one sucked we wouldn't have to hear them again, and they'd showcase a lot of different people.

Meganee is especially exceptionally cute in her op cameo!!!

I like Chii's voice a lot, and her passion regarding aipri, but on the list of things I'm finding myself saying "oh. shame :( " about is her unfortunate hairstyle. also speaking of things that remind me of other things, her name Chii Mamiya sounds like "chi mamire" (blood-soaked) or "chi mame" (blood blister). surely I am not the only Japanese understander who hears this.

Yusa Kouji-sensei has by far my fav character design in this show. he is officially my favorite aipri.

P.O.P.P.Y is a cute enough song. it's just barely on the listenable side of the line for me, but I do think it's a great match for what aipri is going for. also that is definitely a dance that was made for preschoolers to imitate.

buzzalyume... idk if anyone is aware or not, but buzz is a word that's in really common use regarding social media in japan atm. like you would say "that's buzzing" (literally I mean, figuratively it's more like "that's all the buzz" like the english use of the word) about something that's all over your timeline or whatever. so it's not totally out of left field for them to choose that word in particular, but it doesn't mean that it sounds any less forced, that's for sure!!

...finally, I watched it all. whew. I have to say, I was not wowed by it! but it was fine. it's far better than having no pretty series at all. I keep thinking "I'll put off my opinion till I know more about it" about aipri and I'm tempted to say it again now--in this episode we barely met the main two characters in favor of worldbuilding. it kind of makes sense as the first ep of a little kid show, but will the rest of the show stay at this same level of character depth? it's way too early to say. but for me, that's what'll determine how much I like it.

Do you know if the Primagi version of Morning (Falulu) has a clean version? Like a video of it with no sound effects or gameay? I have one for the original but not Primagi ver which is longer

I have not seen one if there is one! back in the pripara days, I think the no-effects versions were mostly from attract mode, but primagi's attract mode includes effects, so idk if there's a way to see it unless they release an mv of it... which they didn't.

I’m glad you got a chance to play primagi again before all the machines close. Primagi is… special. In a good way. I won’t be in Japan again until they all close down probably, even though it’s later this spring. I did get to play it once so you don’t need to feel too bad for me though.

Primagi really was special. I was thinking about it when I was playing: I started with Pripara, so of course it means a lot to me. but for me playing the game is all about seeing my idol ocs come to life, and I feel like Primagi showed me everything I could possibly want and more. and I've already said how I feel about the anime... it was a really good series.

I enjoyed the first ep of Aipri fine, but compared to the first ep of Primagi... at least I can always rewatch it.

I can't tell what it is about the new mychara models that makes them look so much younger than the primagi ones but a lot of mychara twt seems to agree that primagi models often looked like older high schoolers-young adults and now these ones look way youngwr. and I don't mind but I just can't figure out what changed. bc a lot of them have the same eye/face pick as primagi characters... did they just make them shorter or something? oomf told me they're the exact same models but i don't think so

you are correct, they are not the same... the head:body ratio is much different. it's most obvious if you look at the shoulders, I think: primagi models have broader, slightly more realistic shoulders compared to the aipri ones which are barely wider than their ears, more like a little kid's proportions. aipri hands are also much larger, compared to both their arm length and their head size. I think that one should be pretty easy to spot too. there's more (shorter arms, legs, and torsos; less defined waist) but that's maybe less easy to notice? it really depends on the coord.

there are very similar face types, but they have differences too. it's hard to tell from the stock images, but

aipri eyes are bigger proportionally to their face, and the main lash line or whatever is comparatively HUGE so their eyes really eat up their face (sorry, I don't love this haha). their noses are even somehow less visible!

Was Manaka Raara's hair color ever beeen able to used in Arcade or was it eternally exclusive to Raara? I have never seen anyone use it and do not know if is special. or people don't like this hairs color

hmm, sort of? I mean, yes, it was. it was a really popular hair color (I also use it for my mychara Tiramisu), but at first, the only way to get it was by scanning in a qr code from the 3ds games. so you could use it in the arcade game, but I don't remember if it was ever available to get directly from the arcade game. I bet someone else does though.

I DIDN'T cry in the arcade, I swear I didn't, depending on what your definition of crying is. lmao. I knew my eyes were less dry than usual but no one else would have.

I'm surprised, shocked even, that all three cabinets were still working. as mentioned here and there, I haven't been able to play for various reasons for a long time, so I have no idea how many people are still playing here. all I knew is from Luna posting about her trip where she encountered various defunct cabinets. I assumed that the ones at my home arcade would be the same. I guess that's the difference between tokyo and osaka at work... admittedly my arcade is hardly the top pretty series arcade in osaka, though. it's closest to the station so it's frequented by a lot of tourists etc passing through to spectate, which means it gets loud/a little unpleasant sometimes, which probably drives away most of the serious (?) primagi players (and those of other games too). but I can handle that if it means I'm not having to pack up all my cards and eject my usb and move after every single game.

anyway, none of that matters because I'm moving out of osaka and primagi is moving out of existence. the whole 3ish? hours I played today not a single other person came to play primagi until I was packing up to go. I was able to play and record everything I wanted to without being rushed or distracted or whatever. I almost didn't go at all because I'm moving next tuesday and it feels really irresponsible to go to the city and play at the arcade for hours this close, but... while packing I found a lithium ion battery that had swelled up into a mouse-sized pillow and the only place in the goddamn prefecture that will dispose of sick batteries happens to be a 20-minute walk away from my arcade. so I had no choice but to go!

luckily I set aside some coords & MAGIC☆VITAMIN's ids just in case back when I packed my pretty series box, so I already had that ready in my bag! kind of wish I'd gone over all of my coords a little better or picked coords that matched each other better, but I was focused on packing quickly at the time, and I didn't even use one of the coords I brought, so that doesn't even qualify as a regret. a little closer to a regret is how my larger usb did that thing where it gets too excited and stops recording in the middle of my game, so I spent the the last half of my arcade time muttering please please please PLEASE keep recording dont freak out you can do it come on come on--but it always does this so in a way, it was just like old times. back in the arcade with my wretched usb at my side. I got everything I wanted to record in one piece, at least, though it took a couple tries sometimes.

I was planning on only getting friend cards because I love looking at them and I don't need to start collecting coords on my final day of playing the game lmao, but!! I forgot or didn't know there are pretty rhythm coords in primagi!! I knew about the pripara and prichan ones, but other than Mirai's they were mostly stuff I don't care abt seeing on my idols... but the pretty rhythm ones!! they added so many details and definition to update the coords for primagi, and I love looking at that sort of thing!! I only did extra shopping one time when pure premium wedding and rainbow 7th coord showed up in the same game, and then with the random cards you get at the end of the game I managed to finish both, as you can see at the beginning of this post :)

I ended up playing an extra game with Milk because I wanted to see her in the wedding dress, and I was planning on playing one final game with Biscuit, but then... well, I'm totally unaware of the new songs aside from Miruki's Puzzle Buzz one, so I just chose the Himeme/Mychara Girls duet because I wanted to see a Milk/Biscuit pretty rhythm duo, and.... oh my god. it was the cutest song in the world, even (impossibly!) cuter than Buzzle. my idols got engaged......... in pretty rhythm wedding dresses..... . it seemed like too perfect a place to finish my primagi career (and I had to record it twice bc of my usb) (and I didn't particularly have any coord/song in mind to use for Biscuit after that) (and right after hearing morning and gift in the arcade after so long it was a direct hit to my idol emotions) so I finished up and went home.

I'm really glad I got to play one last time. I had already resigned myself to the fact that I just wouldn't get to, that's how it had to be and it sucks that I'm moving at the same time, and I figured it would be fine because I haven't been able to play regularly. but I feel so relieved since I went! I'm going to the middle of nowhere so I won't be able to play aipri verse regularly even if I want to (tbd), so I think this nice long farewell concert helped me feel ok about primagi ending and moving away and whatever aipri is going to be instead of just like... it's inevitable, so oh well.

I haven't had time to check the vids yet. fingers crossed that they turned out fine...
