i love both games dearly but i love using the term “joel going golfing” and until today, i didn’t know some people could be so fucking hypersensitive about it.

not to be like a buzzkiller but the violent heart comment hasn’t left my mind since and with the following seasons coming into production soon, it got me worried and not in a good way. ur thoughts?

remember the post i made a while ago about how hesitant i was to play the last of us part ii again solely because of how emotionally heavy and difficult this game is for me, despite how much i love it?
well, the credits are rolling, nineteen hours of gameplay are behind me and safe to say—guys i’m fucked up again.
i probably shouldn’t but after this playthrough my expectations for adaptation of the sequel are really high. like, they can’t fuck this up. i think it’s going to be challenging to make the viewer feel the same rollercoaster of emotions as the player but i’ve put my faith in neil. and i’m excited—shitfuck scared but excited nonetheless.

last thing regarding this topic, ellie’s violent actions in part ii are explained and justified enough, there was literally no need to add the whole “she has a violent heart” characterisation.
like u see what she goes through, she sees joel being ripped away from her in the worst way possible. she’s traumatised, angry but also—she feels guilty for not having enough time. it’s also visible that the second she enters the cycle of violence, it starts to destroy her. ellie isn’t someone with violent heart, she’s deeply scarred kid who doesn’t know how to deal with such loss. okay i’m out.

i’m curious to see if they decide to introduce spores in the following seasons. i don’t remember if neil or craig said this but supposedly, they’re open to this idea. and i would love to see that ‘cause it plays an important role in a lot of scenes—especially the one where ellie reveals to dina that she’s immune.
i can’t really see right now how else they would execute that—they already added ellie being bitten with joel and tess as a proof of her immunity and i feel like if they did that with dina as well, it would probably feel like recycling the same idea.

i’m sorry but i am really getting tired of the “ellie has a violent heart” characterisation ever since the show dropped. having bella say that felt slightly disappointing and i understand why some fans on twitter are mad about it. just because someone is your fav does not mean you have to agree on everything the say. of course, don’t a dick online and don’t harass them for it.
i don’t even have the energy to explain why this take feels so stupid to me. ellie going on full rampage mode doesn’t mean she has a violent heart—she lost someone she deeply loved, she is traumatised by experiencing that act in the worst way possible and we know how fragile her and joel’s relationship was. and considering the conversation they have the night before joel dies, she has so many reasons to go and find abby.
but we also see that ellie isn’t as hardened as joel and the violence is taking its toll on her. she doesn’t have a violent heart, she isn’t built for it and it becomes more and more clear—hence when she tortures the living shit out of nora and traumatises herself. the violence is literally destroying ellie. she’s trying to be like joel but fails to do so because she’s just not built like that.
if she had a violent heart, i don’t think she would spare abby and saved herself by breaking the cycle of violence, but that’s of course just my take.
also, last thing. ellie does not kill david because she has a violent heart. that man was a sick bastard trying to rape her and kill her—he scarred and traumatised her for life. she killed him in self-defense. in that moment, she released all her pain and suffering after experiencing probably the worst thing in her life, at the time.
disclaimer: this is just my little rant, feel free to disagree but stay respectful. peace out.

i don’t have many requests for season 2 and 3, just need them to adapt the space shuttle sequence. it’s the purest and most beautiful moment of ellie and joel’s relationship.

i replayed the last of us ii last summer and i’ve been thinking about playing it again ever since the show dropped. the problem is, however much i love the game, it’s a fucking emotional rollercoaster and i’m not sure if i wanna go through it again right now.
bear with me, sounds stupid, i know. but for me, it’s not like the other games that i can just replay when i feel like turning on the ps. it’s not like detroit, or uncharted. when i first played the sequel, it did fuck me up for a solid moment. being at home in quarantine certainly did not provide the best conditions (you’re at home, you are constantly thinking about it). i love it so much, it’s my favourite game, it has a special place in my lil game collection.
but man, the story and the journey itself feels so fucking heavy sometimes. i admire people who can just do a speedrun or something and not give that game much thought. i envy those people sometimes.
it’s just so strange that someone can create a piece of art that is capable of making you feel such way. neil druckmann, i’m in your walls you sick man. but i applaud you nonetheless.
hope this blurb resonated w someone. even if not, have a pleasant weekend! i’m gonna go back to contemplating.

saw a take on tiktok that tommy ruined ellie’s family when he showed up at the farm and honestly—hard disagree and as per usual, let me elaborate.
as much as ellie tried to tell otherwise, she was far from being okay or living peaceful life at the farm. you see clearly through her diary entries that ellie was heavily traumatised and haunted by her memories. she couldn’t mention joel, couldn’t draw his eyes.
there were two endings to ellie’s situation and i’m not even exaggerating when i say that one of them would be ellie putting a bullet through her head. the signs were there, clear as day. ellie needed to find abby, because at this point—it was not about the revenge anymore. it was about ellie putting an end to it all.
and as shitty as tommy’s words and actions at the farm might have been, it saved ellie in a sense. ellie needed to put an end to her pain, break the cycle and tommy provided what she needed for that.
yes, it did cost her her family. but ellie started paying this price the second she killed first of abby’s friends, the second she became part of the cycle. of course, there were moments where ellie could feel happy at the farm because after all—it was all she ever hoped for. but that would never last forever, not in her condition.
ellie needed to save herself first. and i think it’s better to have her healing and dealt with pain as oppose to trying her best to seem happy on the surface whilst the pain was eating her alive.

i like his dynamic w abby. despite the ugly parts of their relationship (the cheating part in particular), he knows her best and he’s probably the only one who knows how to call her out on her shit when needed. like the boat conversation. say what u want about that scene—still convinced it was the point to make the viewer sort of uncomfortable given the circumstances. abby needs to hear those words, she needs to realise her actions (she’s very well aware of them but to have someone specifically call her out for it just hits differently and makes more of impact).
he’s not one of my favourite characters but out of the salt lake crew, he’s probably somewhere at the top. he’s not a good person—but probably none of those people are, that’s the point. it’s not about good or bad, that’s pretty much based on the point of view anyways. he’s a complex character and in my opinion, still has a lot to offer and contributes to the story and especially abby’s development.
might be controversial but owen is extremly overhated character, especially on twitter (like damn, he’s not my favourite either but give that man a break).
