all these posts that are like *flips hair* hi newbiesss tehee welcome to Tumblr..... we're not like the Other Social Media Sites 😝😘 and then proceed to unironically describe tumblr like the shangri la of social media where we all live laugh reblog and have long ebony black hair and flip off preps as if every fucking day on here for the last ten years hasn't been a bloody trial with innumerable casualties like we don't weekly see the most hilarious drama and indescribable dysfunctionality. you're all like acclimated deep sea organisms enticing soft photic zone invertebrates to come down. they're going to fucking die.

You know, when I see fictional characters who repress all their emotions, they're usually aloof and very blunt about keeping people at a distance, sometimes to an edgy degree—but what I don't see nearly enough are the emotionally repressed characters who are just
mellow.
Think about it. In real life, the person that's bottling up all their emotions is not the one that's brooding in the corner and snaps at you for trying to befriend them. More often than not, it's that friendly person in your circle who makes easy conversation with you, laughs with you, and listens and gives advice whenever you're upset. But you never see them upset, in fact they seem to have endless patience for you and everything around them—and so you call them their friend, you trust them. And only after months of telling them all your secrets do you realize

they've never actually told you anything about themselves.

You know what I hate?
When characters in stories have really good questions and critiques of romantic love and relationships or even a rather cold dating experience. Like, they tell themselves that they never felt the same pull towards dating their peers did, and dread how they feel obligated to date even if they feel like this is not what is right for them. They ask themselves why everyone is so obsessed with this thing or how could some people swear to be with each other forever so easily when the future is inherently unpredictable. And all of these are really good questions to have and observations to make
Then everything disappears as soon as they enter a relationship. Boom, all deep thoughts about amatonormativity are gone and the rose tinted glasses are firmly in place
And it pisses me off beyond belief, because critiques of amatonormativity are treated as flaws to be overcome. As the symptoms of a lonely hurt person who wishes they could have had a picture perfect romance but for some reason couldn't and are trying to rationalize it as a cope out
And this ties into aphobia, specifically arophobia. Of course people don't believe us when we are talking about our experiences, when we tell them "yes, I am perfectly happy being single and I'm sure I would hate being in a relationship", because they have always been taught that no one can sincerely critique dating culture, because everyone wants a relationship. And if they say they don't they are either lying or broken
So yes, how about we stop treating actual creatiques of a toxic societal practice as signs of a too cynical person that needs a relationship to loosen up and become the best they could ever be? Because it's wrong on so many levels and if people would not be romanticising ... well romance ... to such a ridiculous degree, then it would be more than obvious

i sometimes wonder if a certain chunk of Online is completely incognizant of the catharsis of friend discords, where you can be as petty and bitchy as you want among other catastrophically petty bitches of your ilk without fear of judgement, so that you never feel the need to carry any of your little ant-bitten opinions outside the server and end up harassing someone under the drunkenness of your own ire
