the most mundane but highest form of tenderness in friendship i’ve experienced was when i was in grade school. unbeknownst to little me, my friend was allergic to oranges (and its family as well). but during recess that one time, i gave her a slice of it and her, being very kind and accepting, ate it one by one with such a sour look on her face (but w/o smiling every now and then to reassure me that she was enjoying it). so, before lunch, she had a non-threatening allergy attack with her throat and tongue being itchy and all. i felt bad afterwards

but when dismissal came, her mother approached me (because she was called by the school nurse). i thought that she was going to scold me but she didn’t! instead, she gave me a tupperware (the one with two layers/containers) and in them were nicely sliced sweet mangoes. i remember her saying “you can share these instead. it’s her favorite.” after that, i was able to visit her to the clinic with her mom beside me and we shared mangoes instead of oranges :))

i still keep thinking about this time because i knew her favorite color was yellow, and how when she saw me open the container, her face lit up like the sun! ☺️💐🌞 & completely unrelated but sometimes we call each other by the endearment of “sunrise” and “sunset” just to remember that moment <333
