If Loki hadn't spent so long learning to keep his expression and body language tightly under control when he felt threatened, his alarm at the man's unexpectedly jovial attitude would have been obvious even to the most inattentive observer.
The stranger gave his title as though it was supposed to mean something, smiled as though he wasn't trespassing, and complimented him as if he knew Loki had a weakness for flattery (though in fairness, that wasn't exactly a secret). And yet he didn't seem at all surprised to see Loki alive and well. All in all, it was extremely unnerving.
He took a cautious step to the side to get a better view of the box on the balcony, then glanced back to the intruder.
"You answer my questions without telling me anything of use. Clever." Not clever enough, but he could respect the attempt.
He took a step away from the doors, throwing up a hasty illusion spell to keep anyone who cared to look up from seeing anything but an empty balcony, and gestured back towards the doorway with one of his blades.
"Come in, won't you? Sit down." The words were inviting, but Loki's expression made it clear that this wasn't a request, but a command.
The familiar voice pooled in the Doctor's ears and prompted him to spin on his heels. He didn't miss the sharp daggers, one for each heart if this prince had happened to know it, although he reckoned it was probably a good thing he'd taken to leaving his pistol on his ship lately. From his somewhat limited experience of who he believed this man was, they didn't take kindly to weapons not in their own hands.
"Loki!" He grinned brightly, relying on the potent weapon of confusion. "It is Loki, isn't it? You're looking exceptionally well if I do say so. Very well-nourished and handsome. I'm the Doctor and I got here in this."
He gestured with both hands Will Smith-style toward the blue structure marked 'Police Box' that was obscured by one of the balcony doors.

"I suggest we don't stay long enough to find out." Loki took immense pride in his own magic. The skill and power he had was hard-won through centuries of study and practice, and he knew that even to other practitioners, what he could do was impressive. Under normal circumstances, he had immense faith in his spellwork.
But a rushed spell cast under immense pressure with mere moments to prepare, pitted against the strength of an ancient unknown that had all the time in the universe to tear it down? Even if that thing didn't manage to break out before they escaped the tunnels, Loki was prepared to bet that it would sooner or later.
"This... creature. It obviously isn't entirely like you but is it perhaps some distant relation? An ancestor? Does like call to like? Why call only to you? Because you were the only one who could understand, or because it needed you specifically?" The musings were voiced allowed mostly for Loki's own benefit in ordering his thoughts, but he kept his gaze fixed on Gemina's back nevertheless to glean what he could of her reaction in the dim light. At this point, he didn't think she was keeping anything relevant from him, but he wasn't fool enough to rule out the possibility completely.
"Do you know where you're going?" He asked as an afterthought, realising with alarm that he was blindly following a stranger through the dark. Not that he had any better options.

No comfort was given by the strange wizard's response. Her lips thinned into a line as her discomfort became visible on her face, nostrils flaring and lips twisting into a scowl. She didn't look back at Loki for this though, almost fearing that if she did she might see something past him.
"I'm afraid you may be right. There was a voice loud as thunder, but it was so much more than that."
Gemina stared into the darkness ahead of them. While the actual words spoken were rapidly fading in her mind, their meaning and the cold fingers that had moved across her mind were not. "I don't know if understanding is the right way to describe it. Consciously, the words were unfamiliar, but somehow I-.. Knew it was calling me."
Somehow it had rendered her entirely frozen. Her limbs had not been her own in those terrifying few seconds. Yet she decided -- for her own safety -- not to disclose that bit to her companion.
"I understood that it wanted me to stay. I-.. Felt it's hunger. Whatever that creature is it's immensely powerful and we've woken up. Let's hope your barrier is enough to keep it in."

If the jarring sensation of the majority of his wards all triggering at once (with the very notable and irritating exception of the ones that were meant to stop anyone intruding in his rooms in the first place), the noise certainly would have been.
Loki, dagger already in hand, peered through the door into the living area and scanned the room. He knew better than to think coming back to Asgard would be without its complications. He was risking an enormous amount just by being here, even without spending most of his time masquerading as Odin, but he had hoped he might get at least a few months of peace.
He cocked his head to the side as his gaze caught on the figure standing on his balcony and narrowed his eyes. Whoever it was certainly wasn't acting like a thief or an assassin- they seemed, to all intents and purposes, to be unarmed and simply standing there- but that didn't necessarily mean anything.
He summoned another dagger to his free hand for good measure and crossed the room silently. He paused at the balcony doors, drawing himself up to his full height before announcing himself.
"Unless you want to meet a very painful end, I suggest you explain exactly who you are and how you got in here before I lose my patience."
This new collection of universes to explore was absolutely thrilling. XI had never been to places where time wasn't fixed and it was both horribly frustrating and beautifully freeing all at once. Now and then he had the sense that there were select points that wouldn't budge, but these threads were so much more relaxed and his hybrid TARDIS didn't grumble at all on slipping between them.
Off on his own adventures while his husband cavorted elsewhere, this Doctor parked where his ship decided this time. Perhaps it was somewhere she thought he should see. Perhaps someone needed help (he was somewhat back in that business again now).
Clad in his favourite black-and-red waistcoat and a pair of black jeans, XI stepped out onto a balcony that overlooked one of the most stunning cities he had ever seen. Golden spires and turrets; smooth stone; cascading waterfalls bursting with rainbows; vast mountains; distant forests; and glittering waves. Paradise.
"Blimey, now that is a view."

How do you feel when people compare you with a cat?
Tumblr media
"Well, that depends on the comparison. Cats are often considered elegant, cunning, and independent. If that were the intent behind the comparison, I would consider it a compliment. However, domesticated cats are also considered to be small, cute, and harmless, and I am none of those things."

Do you miss Asgard? Odin, Frigga, Thor?
Tumblr media
"Ha! Don't be ridiculous! I only wish I could have escaped that wretched, stagnant place and its lies sooner."
The lie comes easily, a spiteful veneer to hide the truth that he wants to hide even from himself. Asgard may be the setting for some of Loki's worst memories, the place that fed him lies and taught him to despise himself, but even when Loki vehemently denied it, it's always been his home.
Frigga is a far less complex memory- the woman he could never bring himself to stop calling his mother- and Loki misses her immensely. Odin, he still resents, with so much left unsaid and so many questions left unanswered, but what Loki resents most of all is that he misses him too.
Thor is the most complicated of all. Loki misses him like he'd miss a lost limb. But he's also the one Loki is the most angry with, perhaps because they were once so close, perhaps because he's the only target remaining for Loki's rage, or perhaps because he's still there but Loki's pride, resentment, and fear keep him just out of his reach.

How do you show people you care?
Tumblr media
"If you're looking for practical advice, I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place. Interpersonal relationships are not my area of expertise. But personally... I have always preferred actions to words. Words mean far less coming from and spoken to a famed liar. Doing something for someone, or spending time with them out of choice says the most, in my experience."

Loki, it's dangerous company knowing a vampire. What will you do if she tries to feed off you?
"Perhaps. But I'm dangerous company myself, and dangerous and fun are often almost synonymous."
Tumblr media
"To answer your question, I like to think the vampire in question isn't foolish enough to try something like that, but if she did... Something horrendously violent and suitably destructive, I should think." The wicked edge his smile takes on fades quickly as another train of thought distracts him.
"I can't help but wonder, though, would my blood sustain her? Is her kind adapted solely to consume the blood of Midgardian creatures? And if not, what would the differences be? Questions I will never have answered, I suppose."

A box wrapped in their signature green and gold appears at the foot of Loki's throne. It contains a plethora of ornaments, some comical, some on theme, some tasteful. The note inside reads 'Merry Jul from one tree to another'.
The box that appears is initially met with suspicion, being the only thing about Loki's immediate environment that's really changed since he took his place on the throne. He narrows his eyes at it, as though he might force it to reveal its sinister purpose simply by glaring at it hard enough.
When that doesn't work, spurred on by curiosity, he impulsively tears through the wrapping and into the box.
The note makes him even more suspicious, though now he's less concerned about the box causing him harm and far more concerned about the sort of box-sized practical joke that a Loki might find funny. He can think of at least five just off the top of his head.
His suspicions, however, prove unnecessary as he looks through the contents of the box, a smile slowly growing on his face. He's still very much by himself, but a little of the overpowering loneliness melts away as he glances back at the note with a grin.

"Of course I'm sure," Loki snapped, though in reality he didn't feel sure at all. This place certainly seemed, certainly felt different, but how much did he truly know about the place he'd just left? Certainly not enough to be completely sure that this wasn't just another, less interesting part of it, though the absence of Alioth looming over his new surroundings was a comfort.
He sighed, turning back to face his companion with an irritated expression.
"Is that so? It took me 2 days to escape my last prison. How long have you spent languishing in this one? The state I found you in doesn't exactly inspire confidence." He crossed his arms over his chest and his frown grew more pronounced. He didn't particularly want to accept any form of help, even if it was just information, but there could be no denying that any knowledge the man could give him would be invaluable.
"My name is Loki. Though as you seem so fond of titles, perhaps 'Your Royal Highness' would be a more suitable form of address, Captain."
