Hi Taylor, my name is Caitlyn and there’s somebody I really want you to meet. This is my best friend of 11 years, PJ. We’re seniors in college we’ve been friends since the sixth grade, and I would not be who I am without him. He introduced me to your music in the summer of 2018, when I needed you most. My Nana had just passed away, and I was nearing the bitter end of a 3-and-a-half year relationship (my first heartbreak.) Back in the spring, we’d made a deal that he would be my concert partner and go see Panic! At the Disco with me, and I would go see the reputation stadium tour with him. It was the best deal I’ve ever made. In the months leading up to the concert, he would send me lists of your songs, tell me what he loved about them and why he thought I would like them, and he was never wrong. Not once. I listened to reputation front to back enough times that I’d be able to scream the words to every song with him, and as you can see ^ I did just that. That concert was one of the greatest nights of my life, and the bond PJ and I began over your music would get me through the end of that relationship I mentioned just three weeks later, and it would get me through so many things since. We showed up to vote in the midterm election in all the TS merch we could find. We watched together when the reputation stadium tour was put on Netflix, we waited up for the release of ME! together, we waited up for Lover together and listened through the whole album in his basement, we watched Miss Americana together, and we’ve spent countless nights on countless back roads listening to and singing your music together. I’m blessed to call him my best friend, I’m blessed that we share this incredible bond over your music, and I would love for you to see this post and see just one of so many examples of the unity your music has made in the world. Happy one year anniversary to ME! I cannot believe I’ve been blessed with growing up in the same time period as you. To grow as you do and relate to every song you’ve released throughout the years. It’s 2011 again and a friend of mine is playing White Horse on guitar because he knows I love it. Flash to 2012, RED was released and I’ve fallen in love with your music completely. All Too Well, Begin Again, helped me cope with the craziest break up I knew at age 16. I fell in love with 1989 and the confidence you brought with it. Everything became about Taylor Swift, my room, my ringtone, my entire playlist. Working nonstop 2014, cleaning my tables at the end of a busy restaurant night with my headphones in on repeat with 1989. Then you disappeared and I did too. I was in a slump in my life, between relationships, my grandmother passed, job choices and graduating college. I just listened to you constantly for support on my breaks at work, walking to work because my car broke…Then there was snake video. At work, no service, trying to understand what you had posted. Everyone at work knew me as the Taylor Swift girl. Everyone in my life knows me as obsessed. Reputation brought the “bad bitch” persona I needed to start 2018. Started a full time, adult job, I was at my high and I did it, my choices. I have the relationship of my dreams, a house, and I did it all with hard work. Taylor, you have been my role model during my teens and 20’s. I cannot thank you enough for being such an emotional, confident, strong, and hard working role model for all of us to grow up with. I hope one day you can notice me, hug me, and tell me you’re happy to meet me. I’d love that so much Taylor Swift. I think it’s day 42 or something. I am a cat, I have no concept of time. Anyway, I don’t know what the humans are talking about with this whole “social distancing” thing, because mine NEVER LEAVE ANYMORE. They’re always here.
