afternoon coffee & dessert @ DOSC
After lunch at Jack's, DQ & I headed to DOSC for afternoon sweets~
I recommended this place - sadly, it was a disappointment. It has been a long time since I've been here. I suggested it bcos they had coffee & a small pastry menu. Looks like the desserts/pastries are completely gone. Although still a cafe on one side of the restaurant & a restaurant/bar on the other, the cafe only serves beverages now.
So we were seated & given this menu : (
Not what we were looking for but. .. *shrugs* you know that awkward situation when you wanna leave but you're already seated & water has been brought to your table? Thankfully, there was ONE item that somewhat resembled a 'dessert' lol & that was the buttermilk hot cakes.
This was it o_O
For those that have a sweet tooth, THIS IS IT! But for me, . .. just no-no. Wayyyyy too sweet. The pancakes were sooooo soft & soaked. The part I liked the most were the dry crumbs . That, & the condensed milk! I did not expect condensed milk. Ahhh too sweet & soggy!
I also ordered the nitro cold brew. You know, now that I have better understanding of coffee beverages. .. this did not pass as a nitro cold brew =( therefore it was disappointment as well. Nitro cold brew should have a microfoam layer on top, kind of like beer. The idea in terms of production is very similar to beer. Anyway, mediocre =/
If I came by myself, I don't think I would have been quite as upset but bcos I recommended it to DQ, I internally felt bad bcos it didn't live up to the expectations. Sorry >.< !!

Jack's Burger Shack (dining week)
Hey guys!
Let's backtrack a little. .. to Edm Downtown Dining Week, which happened at the end of March. .. lol sorry!! >.<
One of the participting restaurants was Jack's Burger Shack. They started out in St. Albert (original location), & now (since a few yrs ago) has a 2nd location in Downtown Edmonton. I've been to neither, same with my companion DQ, whom I came here with. So we were very exciting to try out this place since we've heard very good things about it :D
It was a Tues later-lunch when we came but bcos it was dining week, the place was packed. Thankfully, I managed to snap a photo of this wall that features their sign while they were cleaning between diners.
The place was very narrow & not a lot of seating available; however, it's neat, cozy, & I like the range of furniture/decor.
My friend DQ in the bottom left corner taking care of her daughter haha
So during Dining Week, participating restaurants have a pre-set menu. Jack's was only open for lunch service & they had 2 menu sets; we got the $15 option, which we thought was a better bang for your buck. (The $25 option is an 'upgraded' version of the $15 menu, with a diff burger & poutine instead of fries with aoili).
The rootbeer float. Omg, can't remember the last time I had a float. .. probably 2 decades ago?? Can't say I am a fan but I finished it regardless.
The fries + melt aoili & the 5oz burger (the original one). The melt aoili was good; not sure about the fries. I like my Costco fries :P
The burger though. .. amazing! 11/10! Very thin & crispy. They make them 'smash' style on a flat grill like a teppanyaki so not only does it cook fast, but also you get a good smokiness from it as well. Well-seasoned & . .. loved it! I've never had burgers so thin before. I hope more can be done with this patty - like, I dunno. .. banh mi? On rice? Honestly, it has Asian style street food vibes.

Soy sauce cockle with rice
Another Hmart 'kit' review. This time, I tried pre-packaged soy sauce cockle!
I thought it was clam until I turned it over & saw the English.
Cockle, as per Google, is a distant cousin of clams. They have similar texture when eaten. They differ in their shell shape. .. yeah, I don't know. I'm just gonna treat it as a clam relative. I like all seafood! Or at least, the ones that I've eaten anyway.
The kit contains 3 components: the large package is the one that has the cockle, the smallest one is sesame oil, & then the last one is soy sauce.
(The cockle pack is watery; I'm guessing that's the preservative 'juice')
Yup, I was right haha like the canned whelks, the cockles were in a light murky brown 'water'. I got rid of it & all the little leafy things as well. Not sure if it's edible but the picture instructions does show a draining procedure. So if you end up buying this, don't miss that step!
Drained & then mixed in the soy sauce & sesame oil.
I ate it with rice & some seaweed. PS: this product is meant to be eaten cold but when you put it on top of hot rice & mix it, it warms up.
YUMMMMMMY! The flavour was good & I liked the texture of the cockle. It's slightly chewy & lacks mushiness. Canned & bagged seafood is still kind of weird to me but after the canned whelks, I feel more confident with this packaging of seafood lol it tastes like Korean banchan. If you know, you know?.. . you know all those briased banchans, like quail eggs or fish cakes..? It reminded me of those. It's totally the sweet Korean soy sauce but it's so good!!
I would 100% buy this again!

Homecooking [March ed]
Hiiiiii~
Rolling into spring with some spring rolls xD sorry, that was bad :P
Nothing much this month, I would say. Weather getting warmer. Sun out for longer. .. etc. I did a sketch of my favourite short tracker this season: Kim Gun Woo of Korea. I am watching a Kdrama called The Impossible Heir. Started strong, I caught up . .. & then the female lead kinda got on my nerves. I'm not familiar with her acting profile; however, I'm not sure how she got casted for this role. Were there no other options?! Anyway, you watch for yourself (& maybe let me know!).
I ate out several times this month as well. In fact, I've eaten out the most number of times this month since the pandemic lol it's an achievement. Will work on those posts after this one! But for now. ..
The carbonara Samyang spicy chicken noodles WITHOUT the spicy chicken sauce. I've added some baby bokchoy, tofu & kimchi with it.
Kimchi pancake- I'm trying diff batters. This one was unsuccessful so I won't share. It was so. .. 'hard' =/
Homemade wontons with noodles & baby bokchoy.
Yes. .. more bokchoy -.-" this was thick rice noodles with hot pot fatty beef slices. Threw in some soup seaweed as well.
Pasta - for dinner, then leftovers for lunch the next day.
Also the carbonara Samyang spicy chicken noodles but without the sauce xD I keep the sauce for hotpots & stuff now.
Bro made fried chicken using a new batter recipe. It was alright.
"A little bit of everything" rice noodles - bean curd, bokchoy, napa cabbage (it's so pale in colour that you can't even see it), soup seaweed, kimchi, chicken. .. in a deonjang jjigae base.
Yeah I know, it's expired but it was still good. I smelled it haha I ate the Korean franchise congee recently ("Bon-juk" brand) & I was inspired to create something similar. I used this expired soybean paste soup sauce with another Hmart product that I've eaten before, instant vegetable-flavoured congee, & cooked the two together!
& it became this ^ soybean paste congee. It was actually very good! I had a little taste test while cooking it & it was way too salty (the instant congee pack is seasoned) so I added regular rice to it & more water . .. I essentially diluted out the contents. Ended up with way too much product lol oh well, leftovers, right? This was super successful. I would recommend it, especially if you wanna make a bigger batch & save some for later or if you are feeding 3-4 ppl.
That's all~ Bye byeeee~~
PS: I visited the Stanley A Milner (downtown) library for the 1st time since the renos were finished. I don't exactly know when the renos were done as I don't travel to that area often. ..
The atrium area between 2nd and 3rd level, feat. my nieces.
The facility was actually really nice! I remember spending time here when I was in high school . .. it was sooooo dim & the place was so old-looking. The most amount of time I was here was during extended essay writing period.. . had to read, write notes, & cite references for my paper, which was on Sun Yat-sen lol I don't recall the title of my paper anymore...been too long! But yeah. The library is very good-looking, with some really cool areas. The crowd. .. ughhh.. There was a strong security presence, which was good, I guess, but the amount of questionable ppl was also abundant. Sometimes I wonder if having a security gate/bag xray machine at the door would be a good idea. Of course, I acknowledge the fact that it's a "public" library but I also think measures should be taken to make all members of the public feel safe. Then again, if such measure was applied to a library, malls should get it too? *shrugs* Let's just say the facility was upgraded BIG time but the population hasn't changed.
Off I go to work on other things now :P seeeee ya!

Pastries from ACE Coffee Roasters (not pictured is the strawberry cream doughtnut)
I'll start with the doughnut that I don't have a picture of (ate it at work lol). Light & quite large; still not sure if it was worth the price tag =/ my main problem was the uneven filling. The strawberry cream was off-centered so I had one half of the doughnut that was oozing out cream while the other half was just a ball of dough : ( meanwhile, my coworker got the same flavour of doughnut & hers was evenly filled. I'll consider myself unlucky this time.
The cheese croissant was good! Best one of the 3 items. I wanted to try one of each type of pastry that they had. The croissant (which I ate unheated) was crispy & the cheese filling was quite nice. I'm pretty sure if I reheated it, it would have been better but it's okay! Still enjoyed it & 100% I would get the croissant again.
The chocolate dip doughnut was not good. It was a very large doughnut (their items, in general, was just large haha) with insufficient dip. .. This doughnut was dry (?not as fresh) bcos there wasn't enough dip, I felt like I was just eating dough. Very bland even for me! The chocolate dip needed to be either thicker or let it run down more so there's enough dip for each bite. I thought, overall, it was unbalanced.
Out of the 3 items, I was really only satisfied with 1 .. which was depressing bcos these weren't cheap. Won't be getting these often but will likely purchase the cheese croissant again, if anything.

Congee from Korea!
In Korea, there is a famous congee specialty franchise restaurant called "Bon-juk"!
I've visited one of their locations during my trip in October 2023 - in Busan specifically. Highly recommend Busan as a travel destination. I personally like Busan more than Seoul! There's just something special about the city - it has a nice mix of calmness & vibrancy, while being less populated than Seoul, where everywhere is just SO busy all the time. & I also really like the 'flavours' of Busan. They're by the sea (birthplace of fish cakes!) & I think their banchans (kimchi, radish kimchis etc) are more savoury & have more depth than other places I've been to. So I love Busan! : )
Anyway, I went to a Bok-juk in Busan & had their yookgaejang congee. Yookgaejang is Korean spicy beef brisket soup; it's one of my personal soup favourites. Having it in congee form did not disappoint at all! Imagine the soup but there's (congee) rice in it. So flavourful, spicy, & the rice texture was also very good!
When I saw these bok-juk products at Hmart, I was like "eeeeee!" I purchased 3, & this is the 1st one that I've tried: the octopus & kimchi flavour. (I wished they had the yookgaejang one but they didn't. Maybe next time!)
Soooo excited to try this!
The important thing on this is the instructions haha you can put the whole bag into a pot of boiling water OR pour contents out of bag & reheat via microwave (I suppose you could boil in pot on stovetop too).
I did the microwave method.
There's really not much in here so I would see this product as a form of side or your carb source for a meal. 1 bag of this congee is not gonna be enough as a full meal.
Smelled great! I added a bit of hot water to clean out the bag bcos I guess. .. if it's being imported from Korea, it has been sitting for a while so some of the rice were sort of stuck to the corners of the bag. Didn't wanna waste that.
Here's the 'octopus' haha I didn't expect too mcuh to be in it. There were about 6-8 of these little octopus pieces in the entire bowl. As for the kimchi, they were really finely cut. Occasionally, you would bite into a crunch but other than that, just the flavour was present. Now flavour-wise, 9.3/10! Had a really good kick & it reminded me of the yookgaejang one that I had in Busan. If you can't handle spicy, then don't buy this.

AYCE dimsum
1st of its species in Edm .. AYCE dimsum @ Top One.
Located on Whyte Ave, this restaurant used to be a Korean/Japanese fusion place.
I came to this place for lunch on a Tues in mid-February. To be exact, I came on Feb. 13. From my knowledge, a lot has changed since my visit. Therefore, I will only be sharing my experience here (maybe at the end I'll share what I heard from my coworker's experience, which was 2 weeks after mine).
Okay, 1st off. I got this picture menu. I think this was suitable & useful.
The 2nd piece of paper. Also laminated, this is the ordering sheet. It has the table number as well as the check-out time. When they 1st opened, it was 2hr limit. When I went, that became 90mins; however, the lady said bcos it wasn't busy, they gave extra 20mins, which was 110 haha still not the full 120min but. .. that's the most you could get :P
Their system was actually very efficient. When I heard AYCE dimsum, I had assumed it was the traditional 'pick up whatever you want' from a communal area with steamed dishes. That was NOT it, at all.
So what did happen was. .. we filled out round 1 on the sheet. The staff lady would take the sheet into the kitchen & prep the stuff (& bring out the items as they're prepared). Once the order is complete, they will bring back an empty order sheet.
Of note, there were some minor ordering details. ..
I'm sure you see the wastage fee in the upper right corner. Keep that in mind.
& also, the lady told us that during busy times, tables of diners can only max 5 items per person per round of ordering. For instance, if you have a party of 2, during busy hrs, the 2 of you can order max 10 unique items (doesn't matter the quantity of each one; they only care about unique items). The reason for this was to ensure every table gets something, & the kitchen isn't just prepping your order.
Waiting for our round 1~ It's really unlike a dimsum restaurant haha
Took some time to see the back. The interior is same as before when it was the Korean/Japanese place. (I've been here once)
I don't know much about their hot pot but it's by weight & only available during dinner service. The AYCE dimsum service, at the time of my visit, is available all day (till they close). Of course, you can't order both kinds of service at your table. Everyone has to only do dimsum OR hotpot.
The standard: shrimp dumplings & the siu mai.
The siu mai was good; decent size, flavour was good. Freshly steamed. The shrimp dumplings - not so good even though also freshly steamed.. The dough/wrap portion was kind of stiff. The filling was alright though.
Ribs: good. Looks sad but you can always order more. I didn't eat chicken feet.
Xiao long bao was mediocre. I think you gotta be reasonable for certain things. For AYCE where I expected to just grab from a table, these were freshly steamed when the order sheet comes in so I felt it was decent. Also, the lady said they order from a supplier for most things so . .. I mean, it's not really the restaurant, it's the supplier. I think the xiao long bao is better than the store-bought frozen ones but lacking compared to other places. The beef ball, I didn't have bcos it contains the dried mandarin peel stuff, which I dislike in meat balls.
Pan-fried rice rolls. Okay, this was good as is but misleading in terms of what the name suggested. Pan-fried rice rolls should have a bit of the umm. .. well, evidence of pan-fried-ness lol these were pan-fried but VERY slightly. They lacked the crispy edges. But, like I said, flavour was good (just simple soy sauce) & the rice rolls were soft, so I don't particularly have anything to complain about. Just. .. didn't match what I expected.
Now this one is the steamed plain rice roll. This was legit like the Cantonese stuff that I've had in the motherland, which was pleasantly surprising. This kind of plain rice roll is essentially a large sheet & it steamed/scrunched up like this. Unlike the typical steamed rice rolls you see in dimsum restaurants in Edm (the ones that contain some sort of filling, whether it's BBQ pork or beef or shrimp). I REALLY liked this! It had no flavour on its own but it comes with peanut sauce. Each table also has chili sauce & soy sauce so you can customerize your 'flavour'. I chose the ribs juice from above & soy sauce.
Deep fried shrimp wontons: 10/10!
The curry squid. .. okay, they brought out a 'cold' one in error. They were really nice about it when I told them that it was cold.
The hot "ready" one; I give .. 8.5/10. Honestly, I think it was actually good to realize they do steam things fresh. Like that 1st dish of curry squid was literally... not ready.
Round 2!
Pan-fried shrimp cake & chiu chow dumpling. I don't like this kind of dumpling so I didn't commit to any lol the shrimp cake was not bad. It had a lot of shrimp but also a lot of vegetables. I've never had shrimp cake like this before.
Pork + century egg congee. This was delicious!!
Wonton in chili oil. We ordered 2 just for trying purposes but got 5. We would've kept it if we liked it but ended up sending 3 back into the kitchen (didn't want to pay wastage fee when we didn't even order that many). The wonton was good but the sauce was not. I had imagined it was like. .. a diff chili oil. This was chili oil mixed with red vinegar - it's a northen Chinese thing, I later found it. Had that Szechuan numbing spice in there. I just wasn't a fan but. .. maybe you will be!
Wings were kinda dry but pretty good; flavour was 'original' haha ie: salt. Spring rolls = no good. They were the grocery store frozen kinds & contained mushy vegetable inside.
Soy sauce chow mein. GOOD! Freshly made & you can smell the wok-smokiness.
Eggtarts . .. 8/10. Others have high standards for egg tarts but for me, my biggest thing is the filling. Not the amount, not the ratio with the crust . . just the flavour & texture itself. I dislike egg-y ones & ones that are too sweet. This was not bad but the texture was not as smooth as I would have liked it to be. May have been over-baked. But otherwise, the crust was okay. I also dislike flaky crust lol & this one wasn't very flaky.
Coconut jelly. It was alright. Refreshing, that's for sure.
Osmanthus jelly & mango pudding. The jelly was really not my thing. The texture was weird! & I generally don't like floral-y things. The mango pudding though. .. 10/10!
Alright, so what my coworkers experienced. .. they also went on a weekday for lunch, when it wasn't busy but they were given a strict 90mins. It was enough for them so they didn't mind. Plus, they didn't like the food so they were looking forward to leaving :( they had a smaller menu (like maybe 33% smaller than mine) that was presented on an iPad with some items being unavailable, which made the list even shorter! They also said they paid more than $23.88/person. Altogether, more expensive with fewer food options & strict time limit . .. & 'bad' food. Now I feel terrible for recommending. But hey! When I went, it wasn't like that =(

Pizza from Buster's Pizza
Bcos pizza pricing at Mondo's has significantly increased .. . looking for alternatives. Decided to try Buster's for the 1st time. I'm not sure if they have BOGO regularly but I ordered via Skip when they had the BOGO deal :D
So the deal was: BOGO 12" medium 2-topping pizza (each one is normally $17.59). You get to pick sauce, & 2 'free' toppings.
I really like DIY-ing stuff bcos I get to try diff combos haha I wouldn't say I'm THAT adventurous but it's nice to experiment.
Pizza no.1 - Garlic ranch sauce + bacon + Italian sausage.
Omg the garlic ranch sauce was so good. I didn't really care for the bacon & Italian sausage lol I would have been happy with just the cheese & sauce. It's slightly zesty, savoury, & it wasn't very thick to the point where you'd feel very full afterwards.
Pizza no.2 - BBQ sauce + chicken + baby shrimp.
Not as good as pizza no.1 .. I don't know; this was kinda bland compared to the other pizza. I rarely get BBQ sauce for anything so I thought it'd be a nice opportunity to try BBQ sauce on a pizza. It was just meeehh. Great for the BOGO price but I won't be getting another BBQ sauce pizza in the future.
Generous quantity of toppings for both pizza. The crust was also good. I don't like thin crust so anything other than thin crust, I'm not that picky with haha - will definitely order again!
I also got a side order of these mac n cheese bites just bcos' (8 pieces for $9.34). You get to choose a sauce & I got the mystery "sweet sauce" haha I didn't know what to expect. . .
I didn't think they would be in the form of a triangle. I was imagining a ball. Inside, the little fritter is filled with KD. KD wasn't a food item I had growing up so I neither dislike nor like it. Just something diff; these bites weren't that good but I don't regret getting them. The sweet sauce was really good though. Not sure what it contains- it had. .. shrimp & peaches sauce vibes. Therefore, likely contains mayo & some sort of condensed/evaporated milk .. . & sugar. I actually used the sauce for the BBQ pizza as a dip. I just really enjoyed the sauce!

Seafood sujebi
1st time trying this seafood sujebi kit from Hmart:
I've gotten the kit by the Pulmone brand in the past but after a few of those, I started buying the sujebi-only packages. Ie: the ones not in serving form or have any seasonings. It's just the noodles. This was on sale so I decided to give it a try. Unlike the other sujebi kit that are normally found in the fridge, this was in the regular aisles. (I thought that was kind of weird)
Gotta love the placement of the stickering lol
The contents: 2 individual noodle packs, 2 seasoning powder packs, & 2 topping packs.
I added my own things to it bcos the kit serving is simply not enough & is not nutritious. I added baby bokcoy, oysters, kimchi & my mom's pork+shrimp patties. She basically makes a mash, then flattens it for freezing so it's easier for storage. Then cuts them up into smaller pieces so when we wanna eat it, we just defrost some.
Satisfied with the flavour - I'm more on the bland-er side so I usually add more water to these items that have a seasoning pack. OR I don't add the whole pack in.
The topping pack was actually really interesting. I don't have a finished view of it but when I added the broth to it, it melted right away & baby dried shrimps & squid started expanding in front of my eyes haha the reaction was so fast!!
Would buy again when on sale but otherwise, will continue to build my own sujebi =]

drip coffee by Jardin
Can we pls take a moment to adore this lovely box design???
The blue one is so pretty!!
The top view.
Side view.
The other side view haha
The remaining side view :P
Now let's umbox~
Each box contains 10 drip bags.
The packaging of the drip bags matches the colour scheme of the corresponding box. I'm really in love with this blue one haha
Ahhh the aroma <3
So this blue one is a secret blend, which they labeled as a medium-dark roast.
I like it! Overall, I give it a 9.2/10~
The quality of the bag itself is really good. Some bags have a weak paper-filter attachment & I've had 1 bad experience where they actually detached & the filter portion fell right into the liquid. But this one, as you can see, is able to be stretched out quite a bit & it sturdy! The filter rate is also pretty fast.
The coffee itself. .. my own problem. I added more water than I should so it tasted kind of weak to me the 1st time. I've had 2 of these by now & I suggest not filtering too many times/use a smaller cup/add smaller amount of water. You know what I mean? It needs to be more concentrated, basically. But I also prefer stronger coffee so. .. I guess it depends.
The lesser-exciting red one in terms of packaging. I don't like the colour red so naturally I'm more attracted to the blue one. However, in terms of taste, I do prefer this one a bit more. It has a more smoky taste & a longer aftertaste as well.
PS: yes, I got this from Hmart when on sale & would 100% purchase again but regular price is kind of steep =/ not sure if I like it that much to buy it at regular price. But it is good!
Also, I LOVE SHORT TRACK SPEED SKATING - something you may already know. The 2023/24 season just ended . .. now gotta wait until Oct =( it's a long time. I was very happy with the World Championship results in the ladies' categories but the mens... you gotta feel for Park Ji Won. I mean, come on! Screwed over by his teammate 3 times this season & 2 of those times during the biggest event OF the yr at the World Champs WHILE HE WAS LEADING, en route to getting gold. Ughhh.. HDH needs to be banned or something. He doesn't deserve a spot on the national team- nvm, he shouldn't even be allowed to go for trials next month -.-" But anywho, I am looking forward to Kim Gun Woo in the next season. Still trials to come but he is looking great! & also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY (Mar20 Korea time)!

Homecooking [Feb ed]
Conclusion to a leap yr February~
A bit of everything noodle soup in chicken broth + some fish sauce lol Lunar New Yr happened mid-Feb & there was just a lot of things in the fridge for most of the month so I threw all the leftovers in here. For carb, I have cheese-ddeok (cheese-filled cylinder rice cakes) & rice noodles. For veggies, I have leftover stir-fried carrot & king oyster mushrooms & bokchoy. I have 2 kinds of seaweed: the soup kind & the dried kind sprinkled on top. Protein was fish cakes.
Coffee of the month~
Gifted from a coworker-friend. This was MUCH better than the maple hazelnut one.
Again, dinner consisting of leftover items from new years. Bokchoy, white beech mushrooms, air fried chicken & thin noodles. I used black peppercorn sauce & some preserved olive vegetable for flavouring.
Yeah. .. more random stuff put on a plate LOL. Here, I've got japchae pancake, chicken breast, egg, lettuce with garlic sauce, & . .. yeah you guessed right- pasta!
It was pasta take-out from Chianti's pasta frenzy special ($13.99 pastas on Mon-Tues). This was the Diabloe pasta, which has spinach fettuccine, diced chicken, red pepper, & artichoke in a cream pesto sauce.
Okay, let's move away from the leftover foods xD I've got a normal/freshly cooked noodle soup here with bokchoy, kimchi & fried egg.
I ate a lot of kimchi this month bcos I didn't realize it had already expired in Dec?! So I was in sort of a rush to finish it. I don't think it'll rot of anything though hmm.. .bcos it's fermented & kept in fridge. If anything, it'll ferment more, right?
Bokchoy & Busan fish cakes with rice noodles.
Bibimmyeon = spicy cold noodles. The noodles are from the 10-pack product from Hmart that doesn't have any seasoning or sauce. I mixed the sauce myself: fire chicken sauce, gochu powder (Korean chili pepper powder), white vinegar, sugar, & random sesame + seaweed pack that I found.
We had a week where it was literally like spring (which of course, wa followed by a few days of heavy snowfall).
SNACK TIME~
Korean onion rings.
K I've never tried this before .. but so good! I'm not a salty + sweet fan but the salted crackers in this was only very slightly salty so it was okay. My fav part was the chocolate filling. Not too sweet. . had dark chocolate vibes. Usually these chocolate filling snacks are so sweet but this wasn't.
Opens like a Kleenex box haha
"Smile package"
For improvement: better spreading of the filling.
Alrighty; that is it for now~ BYE!
(I have a short post bcos I separated several into its own post as they should have its own post lol so more to come from 'Feb' but will likely be posted from now until April :P )

BBQ chicken Mi-Goreng
Have to say. .. this flavour of Mi Goreng isn't as good as the OG spicy flavour, which I ran out of =(
& you know what I recently noticed. .. I mean, this situation happens often but Mi Goreng isn't my usual type of instant noodle so I never really thought about it in the past.
Its portion size.
It is a very awkward portion/amount.
One is too little; it's like snack size. MAMA noodles, I eat 2 as 1. But these Mi Gorengs are larger in amount than MAMA noodles. 2 is okay IF I literally don't have any toppings but that's never the case. For the above 1st try of this BBQ chicken flavour, I JUST had the 1 noodle with all its contents/seasonings (bcos I wanted to try it all on its own).
^ here is the 2nd bag I ate. This is more than usual amount of protein.. . but that's bcos the noodle is small (or else I won't be full).
So yeah, it's a weird size of noodle. .. You know how some products have like those occasional 'up-sized' portions? Like sometimes I see bags of noodles saying "33% more" or whatever. These Mi Gorengs need that lol 1.65x its current size would be perfect for 1 serving!
What do you think??

INTJ life
Good evening, everyone~
Currently eating this orange & cranberry cake & drinking honey & pear Osulloc tea (to stick to the fruit theme). I don't like fruit teas but I like this one. It smells nice & taste is mild. It doesn't taste 'artificial' - shoutout to Amazon for carrying a small inventory of Osulloc products & not charging too much for it!
So while I'm eating & drinking, I'm also learning Thai.
I said on an earlier February post that I planned to make notes .. . so here it is:
It's a mix of Chinese (Canto & Mando) .. some English & some Korean lol
INTJ life is hard. I'm sure everyone has their own problems but .. . INTJs man.. . difficult to get a sense of accomplishment bcos there's always room for improvement lol! We're thirsty; we're ambitious; we have high expectations & ourselves is our biggest competitor.
My field of interests keeps growing & there's not enough time to do everything. Even though I'm in INTJ, I don't use a planner or anything of that sort (never got into the habit of it) but maybe I should - so that I can allot time to spend on each interest.
One of my closet hobbies is reading Korean food blogs. They come with nice pictures; I get to practice my Korean, & most importantly, add places to visit to my ongoing list. Some of these blogs are just ones I find on the Internet. Some are links to blogs via Kakaomap (basically Google maps but better). I've also read some from online magazines. I don't remember the names but I just read the articles. In any case, it got me thinking. .. are there translation jobs out there that's strictly online that I can do as a freelancer? hahaha There must be! :P I don't think I can do Korean -> English but I know I can handle Chinese <--> English. If you know any, esp food-related opportunities, pls HMU.

Realized I didn't take a good photo here. .. I wanted to show the name of the Starbucks drink -.-"
I tried the Oleato foam..... yeah, the one that contains fancy olive oil lol when I first saw the ad on the app, I was like .. ?! Are you kidding me.. . olive oil? Maybe I'm just not well-versed in foams .. . I couldn't tell any difference between this Oleato foam vs other foams I've had in the past. A good thing, I suppose. Mouth-feel was the same to me. No taste of olive oil at all bcos the drink was so sweet anyway lol & most importantly, no sense of greasiness. I don't know why I assumed this was gonna be a problem. They probably put so little amount of olive oil in it anyway haha
Also: mango mousse on the side from Sunterra.

Korean corn dog by Bibigo
Hello~
Had this for lunch :D
I recently found out that Costco has Korean corn dogs now but don't be fooled by the lowered price compared to these ones at Hmart. The ones at Costco do not have the 'dog'; it's stuffed with cheese.
Cooking methods on the back.
This product contains 5 corn dogs; individually wrapped. & furthermore, they were a good size.
Squeezed Korean tartar sauce on top. I prefer tartar sauce over ketchup. & I'm not a fan of the sugar + ketchup + gochujang mixture.
The batter was crunchy - I think I'm gonna stick to using the air fryer method in the future but . .. why does the sausage look so pale?! lol

Another delivery from Spirit Bistro
I am slowly going down their list of menu items haha I'm basically trying everything so you don't have to =P
First off, this is the classic Cantonese soy sauce chow mein. Typically, this is eaten (in the motherland) during breakfast or brunch hrs, & usually (but not always) eaten with congee. The congee is mild in flavour while this has a fragrant/semi-pungent taste so the 2 oftentimes go together. Eat a little bit of noodle, eat some congee to reset the palette. The noodles are also stir-fried so it's 'dry', & congee is soup-y so that's another reason why they're consumed together.
I can tell you that . .. the fragrance is much stronger than it taste.
It looks quite dark but it was actually kind of bland. Not overly bland but for me, it was. For my parents, esp my mom, it was just right.
The 2nd item is flat rice noodles with beef in black bean sauce.
Aroma & taste was . .. 90%!
The negatives:
the onion & some pieces of celery were too raw for me. Great for those who prefer a good crunch.
Separation of the noodles needs improvement. However, of note, was the fact that this was a delivery order so it was packed inside a take-out box. It is reasonable that some noodles are stuck together BUT there were chunks of noodles where the center of the chunk were not coated in sauce (ie: still white/pale), which means the noodles were not entirely separated during the cooking process, so not the fault of it being in a take-out box.
Nonetheless, excellent amount of toppings!

late night meal @ Denny's
Hi hi!
My last time at Denny's was before the pandemic .. . came after night shift with my night shift coworker at 8am xD
This time, I came with my family at 9pm on a cold Dec evening. .. bcos thats how late I am with these posts! SORRY!
That doesn't stop me from ordering cold coffee though. This was their sweet cream cold brew. The cream resembled condensed milk but much more diluted, of course. It was alright. Too milky for my personal preference. Would not order again; I prefer their regular brewed coffee more (what my brother ordered).
Bcos this wasn't exactly a "real meal", we just got some dishes to share.
Prime rib benny with hash. I'm not big on bennies- I liked the hash a lot though!
^ Part of the classic pancake breakfast
The pancakes. Wasn't that great TBH. The pancakes were sooooo soft.
The dish that I ordered: Santa Fe skillet. Okay, I am SO SAD! This shrunk SO MUCH. It also didn't come with toast of some sort anymore. When did this happen?! T____T this is really depressing, actually. The price gone up & also less food. The quality was good though; but I mean, you can't go wrong with potatoes mushroom, peppers & sausages with cheese on top~
