Aspec ship prompts

because I can't find something like this and so I guess I have to make it myself. This is meant for characters on the aromantic or asexual spectrums (grey-ace, demi-ace, romance-favorable, etc.) who are in relationships but doesn't erase that part of their identity

not realizing s/o has a crush on them for *forever* until told explicitly, and being extremely flustered by the attention

s/o giving them time to think through their feelings after the confession, without pressuring them to make a decision

s/o understanding that their affections might not be reciprocated immediately, if at all, and being ok with keeping their relationship as a qpr or a strong friendship in that case.

being unsure if their emotional reaction is anxiety or the "butterflies in your stomach" of a crush

worrying if they'll be a good s/o because they don't "get" romance or sex, but wanting their partner to be happy - needing clear and healthy communication about expectations and boundaries

s/o reassuring them they love them for who they are, and not just what they can do in a relationship

not having a first kiss/first date/first relationship until they're considered a "late bloomer" by allos

learning how to recognize feelings of attraction and being routinely baffled by new emotions (and physical reactions) but enjoying the experience nonetheless

treating "dating" as a vector for reaching marriage, because why would you casually date someone if you don't intend to spend the rest of your life with them? relationships are few and far between, but more serious than their peers (especially in high school/college) (especially especially if raised in a religious household)

slowly testing the waters of physical affection: hand holding -> hugging -> cuddling -> kissing -> etc. and checking that each other are both comfortable at each stage

letting the aspec person initiate the next "level" of intimacy to signal they're ok with that

Alternate ways of showing affection like head butts, linking arms, using s/o as a pillow, kisses but on the hand, shoulder, cheek, etc. instead of lips

boundary levels changing depending on their mood and circumstances

Avoiding PDA, maybe even in front of friends or family because it just feels far far too intimate and awkward

Still gagging at other people's PDA

thinking in terms of "building" or "growing" in love, instead of "falling" in love

it's very important to the aspec one that their relationship doesn't eclipse their other friendships - making the effort to keep in touch, having the s/o be part of the friend group and the friends feel welcomed in their home to avoid 3rd wheel awkwardness

trying (and failing) to flirt with the s/o but its endearing anyhow because the attempt was made

Completely not understanding the premise of "They're a 10 but-" or having a "type", the answer to questions like that being "My type is s/o" or "They're a 0 unless they're s/o"

hugs after kisses, that lasts several heartbeats long, as they nuzzle their face in your crook. kissing there as well, shyly smiling into it. (fyi im single since birth and haven't experienced ANY OF THESE BEFORE.)

cupping your lover's cheek. staring into their eyes with a grin before the kiss, their hands curling around your neck, anticipating it.

feel free to use :)

the hesitation before introducing them like “name, this is my family. guys, this is my… um, this is name.”

“i thought we were …” “thought we were what?”

the built up feeling of being excited to see them for no particular reason at all and the character feeling that being like what’s wrong with me? we aren’t even dating

“what are we?” and the other character responding like “what do you mean?” even though they know

“can we talk? what are we? what are we doing?”

“i don’t want to continue this… relationship… if this is how it’s going to be. i want some clarity.”

explaining it away with friends like oh no we aren’t like that… but that bitter taste being left in their mouth because what are they if not that thing

a character leans in for a kiss and the other asks “what are we?”

they’re just relaxing together when one asks out of the blue “what are we?”

“i don’t like him. if anything, i hate him.” “…. right.”

additionally, character trying to explain it away and sounding even dumb to themselves

“what are we doing?”

“i’m tired of feeling like i have an expiration date on my forehead. what. are. we?”

the classic “you know i think of us as more than just…” if u know u know

“what are we?” “whatever you want us to be.”

a confession like “i don’t know why i feel this way but i know you mean a lot to me and i want to ask if you feel the same abort me” because communication everyone

the more and more they think about it, the more they feel hesitant about continuing with their relationship because they’re terrified that it’s not reciprocated

what happens next? will either of them be honest or will they crash and burn after the question is asked?

I’d like to present to you a list of experiences (that society claims can only ever be romantic) which I’ve had with my friends, because platonic relationships are just as important as romantic relationships if not more so.

dancing in the kitchen at night in the light from the fridge (we listened to Rewrite the Stars and slow-danced in our pyjamas)

surprise visits (my friend drove over to my house after their shift at work to give me a hug after my exam didn’t go well)

looking after each other when sick (I used to keep extra painkillers in my bag for when my friend got headaches, my other friend always used to bring a spare hoodie because I feel the cold a lot, whenever we had colds we could bring each other our favourite snacks to share between classes)

baking together (I have a friend who is an absolute wizard at baking cookies. We made cookies at 1am and shared secrets while sitting against the oven door to keep warm)

forehead kisses (physical touch is one of my love languages to be fair but when I say goodbye to my friends who like hugs I always give them a forehead kiss too)

making each other playlists (i have a friend at uni so we don’t talk as much anymore but we always text each other a song each week that we think the other will enjoy)

watching the stars (when I first passed my driving test I drove into the middle of nowhere with my friend and we watched a meteor shower and saw the sunrise. we didn’t talk because sometimes silence is important too and there is comfort in just having someone there)

matching costumes (when we graduated high school my friends matched our costumes and went in animal onesies - we forgot a spare change of clothes and had to walk through town dressed as giraffes but it was funny)

going on a date (my friend and I didn’t have Valentine’s dates so we bought each other flowers and went to see a movie together)

holding hands (I have cold hands. my friend has warm hands. it’s simple science really)

picnic (we brought my dog too and my friend made fruit flapjacks and we watched the sunset)

surprise gifts (my friend brought me my favourite chocolate after my final exam)

New Year’s kiss (forehead kiss but it counts)

writing each other letters (we write each other letters on our birthdays including jokes, favourite memories, the future, the past, and everything in between)

I have many more examples but these are just a few. We’ve been taught to put so much emphasis on finding a romantic s/o that we sometimes forget we can experience love in so many other forms. And if you’ve never had any of these moments, don’t worry. You have plenty of time and someone out there is waiting for you to come into their life, be that romantically, platonically or some other way.

Anyone else care to ponder a funny scenario with me?

Say you've been dating some sort of monster... Let's go with something stereotypical and say a werewolf. And he's always been an absolute sweetheart, and so furry and fluffy that the cuddling is supreme. You are both finally comfortable enough to spend the night together, so you go to his place before supper and order pizza, settling on the couch to watch movies.

And during one movie, there's a sex scene. And you feel somewhat uncomfortable because you don't know what he's thinking, and he's laying on top of you, shifting slightly. But once you look at him, you realize he looks kind of nervous. So, like any good partner you ask him what's wrong? Offering to skip the scene or let him step away if he needs to.

Instantly your partner is looking at you, somewhat shamefully when he admits that he's uncomfortable because it's your first time spending the night, and the movie scene reminded him that you might want to do certain things.

And it's like a lightbulb goes off in your head. Cautiously you remark that you were worried about the same thing, assuring that you really don't want anything to do with anything sexual. And instantly he's staring at you in disbelief as if he'd never heard someone say that before. Less than a moment later, you're held tightly against the werewolf you've grown to love as he exclaims so excitedly that he's happy you understand!

He goes onto confess that most people he's tried to date really don't want much to do with him once they learn that he doesn't actually enjoy anything sexual, so having you say the same thing just convinces him twice over the two of you are made to be together!

And you both talk happily with someone who understands the feelings and lack of wants, cuddling and enjoying supper while changing the movie to something else.

Basically I'm very tired and about to sleep but some good Asexual Monster x Asexual Reader is never talked about enough lol

Dialogue tips that actually work:

You are not writing a movie (ignore this if you are). The reader doesn't need to know every word the characters say for the duration of the story. Less is more.

Dialogue can happen within the prose. "And they awkwardky discussed the weather for five minutes" is way better than actually writing five pages of dialogue about the weather.

Balance your dialogues. Surprise yourself with a monosyllabic answe to a dialogue that's ten sentences long. Don't be afraid of letting your character use half a page for a reply or nothing at all!

Don't write accents phonetically, use slang and colloquialisms if needed.

Comma before "said" and no caps after "!?" unless it's an action tag. Study dialogue punctuation.

Learn the difference between action tags and dialogue tags. Then, use them interchangeably (or none at all).

Don't be afraid to use said. Use said if characters are just saying things, use another word if not. Simple. There's no need to use fancy synonyms unless absolutely necessary.

Not everyone talks the same way so it makes sense for your characters to use certain words more often than others. Think of someone who says "like" to start every sentence or someone who talks really slow. Be creative.

Use prose to slow down the pace during a conversation.

Skip prose to speed up the pace during a conversation.

Flower Language Based Prompt List I made instead of writing 💐

I tried to make the prompts relate to each flower’s definition per the Victorian Flower Language without getting too repetitive.

The prompts are all fairly open ended and I figured people could use them for their own inspiration or request games!!

You know the “send me a ship and flower and I’ll write something.”
