This painting has been a long time coming— the Humble Administrator’s Garden in Suzhou, China（拙政园，苏州，中国）is still one of the most spectacularly beautiful places I’ve ever seen. It’s based on a photo I took in 2017 of a lion statue over one of the garden’s many waterways. Lions are considered protective guardians of good luck and are commonly seen in pairs guarding entrances, and in this case, bridges.
