Jesus: explicitly tells his followers NOT to judge others.
Christians: Devote themselves to judging and condemning everyone else, especially the vulnerable and disenfranchised.

The secret to adulting is this:
Learn how to reduce your resistance against the things you know you have to do.
You don’t have to like it or enjoy it. You just need to stop avoiding, delaying, or ignoring what you know to be in your best interest.
With repeated experience of the benefits, you will learn a new kind of appreciation for the practice we call “adulting.”

The more I learn about the issues we’re dealing with today, the more obvious it becomes that basically everything is either caused or exacerbated by misogyny and/or bigotry. Whether it’s climate change, LGBTQIA rights or birth control, curing men of their idiotic, baseless hatred of women and fear of people with a lot of melanin in their skin would go a terrifyingly, unreasonably long way to addressing most societal problems.

The problem isn’t people. The problem is corporations who act exclusively for short term profit and the benefit of their shareholders, and refuse to take responsibility for the effects of their actions on the planet, which are not so slowly fucking us over. The problem isn’t my carbon footprint. The problem is Coca Cola destroying the planet for slightly higher profits this quarter.

Pointing out that the Rapture as a concept is a little less than two hundred years old - it's originally from the 1833 - that really buries the lede on how recent it is. Bc the modern evangelical take on the Rapture is from a book published in 1970. That predicted the Rapture would happen no later than 1988.

This isn’t that surprising really. Porn addiction always felt to me like more of a manifestation of America’s semi puritanical, unhealthy relationship with sex and sexuality than an actual addiction.
Now, researchers have put a nail in the coffin of porn addiction. Josh Grubbs, Samuel Perry and Joshua Wilt are some of the leading researchers on America’s struggles with porn, having published numerous studies examining the impact of porn use, belief in porn addiction, and the effect of porn on marriages. And Rory Reid is a UCLA researcher who was a leading proponent gathering information about the concept of hypersexual disorder for the DSM-5. These four researchers, all of whom have history of neutrality, if not outright support of the concepts of porn addiction, have conducted a meta-analysis of research on pornography and concluded that porn use does not predict problems with porn, but that religiosity does

Yeah, all of the this.
For every claim about Pagan survivals in European / North American folk traditions and holidays, it's important to remember that there are at least three layers of cruft on top:
Sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Protestants trying to discredit Catholicism by claiming that it was secretly Pagan
Nineteenth-century Romanticists and Nationalists trying to construct an "authentic" volkisch identity by connecting everything to a remote pre-Christian (pre-Jewish) antiquity, and
Contemporary Neopagans and New Agers who want to maintain these traditions.

Your discomfort with something does not mean you have the right to deny someone else anything. Religious people who oppose abortion, birth control, etc, should be barred from practicing medicine unless they’re willing to set those beliefs aside and do the damn job. Religious freedom does not mean freedom to deny others something.
The administration of President Joe Biden acted last month to mostly rescind a Trump-era Denial of Care Rule that invited health care workers to deny medical treatment and services to patients because of personal religious or moral beliefs.
Americans United applauded the move.
“We applaud the Biden administration for taking positive steps toward protecting both religious freedom and patients’ health by rescinding the Trump-era Denial of Care Rule,” said Rachel Laser, AU’s president and CEO. “No one should be denied the health care they need because of someone else’s religious beliefs.
“The Denial of Care Rule was a dangerous policy that weaponized religious freedom and put the health and lives of women, LGBTQ+ people, religious minorities and so many others in jeopardy,” Laser continued. “Today’s rule seeks to protect patients from harm and upholds the fundamental principle of church-state separation.”

When I posted this I thought I added text, but I guess tumblr ate it, so here goes: Yes, human rights are not zero sum. BUT you can’t let Nazis hang out in the same space as Jews, bigots in the same space as LGBT, PoC, etc. Americans obsess over freedom to, and ignore freedom FROM part of human rights is freedom from persecution. Freedom from some hatemongering jag off assaulting or k!lling you or your wife or your kid for being the wrong religion, gender, skin color, whatever. True tolerance requires intolerance of intolerance. Otherwise it’s pointless, because the entire point of tolerance and acceptance is for the people who are persecuted, demeaned, and brutalized by bigots, Nazis, and other microbrains to feel like humans, because they are, regardless of what some intolerant asshole thinks. Incidentally, religious bigots are hilarious to me. You’re telling me a god you believe is all knowing and all powerful couldn’t possibly create something outside of your comfort zone? How big a fucking ego do you have to believe you know better than the all powerful creator of the universe?
