Comment: I've been really into Lie Low at Lupin's-fics recently and this one was wonderful! I loved reading about their slow reconnecting, how they reluctantly start to create intimacy again between each other, and I especially loved Remus taking care of Sirius's hair and may or may not have cried a bit at the end!

I need to know about the Fairfield heights cuddles

hehehehe @mooncat457writing has heard me talk about writing this for…two years now? and i’ve not made the best progress, but the king and short of it is that it’s a series of nonsense interactions between remus and sirius that mimic a particular chaotic bit of time during my 2L year that i thought were story worthy 😂😂

(title inspired by the roommate i had my freshman year of college lmao)

He wakes up to his arm cradling something gently, as if his subconscious had determined that it was Something to Be Protected At All Costs and then refused to let anyone else come near. He shifts his hand and freezes.

It—whatever it happens to be—is moving beneath his hand, steady breaths causing it to swell and shrink as Remus struggles to open his eyes. The late afternoon light coats his room in honey, and he blinks a few times to adjust his vision. There’s a head of hair next to him, dark and thick and slightly undone from what looks to be a bun of sorts. Remus wracks his brain for any memories of having invited someone over in the moments before he’d passed out, but all he remembers is opening the windows and stumbling to his bed through a haze of pain. Attempting to make sense of the situation only leads to his undergrad days, the urban legend of a “Fairfield Heights Cuddler” who used to break into poorly secured dorm rooms and cuddle with the occupants surfacing for the first time in six years. He moves his hand away from the unknown body abruptly, accidentally brushing against the person’s rear in the process.

Which is apparently enough to wake up Sleeping Beauty—and Remus would definitely classify this man as beautiful.

Remus continued his rounds, feeding and saying hello to the various creatures in his care. He kept stealing glances at Sirius and Crumpet as he did so. There was something so endearing about Sirius interacting with Crumpet, even though he knew nifflers were a handful.

Okay, well, now I’m all emotional —which is not all that new right now cause this year has been a year but also I really needed to hear this right now. I don’t know how you knew I needed to hear this, but I definitely did. I think that might be your super power though because you sliding into my DMs to scream about fanfic was also very needed at the time. I usually hate when strangers try to talk to me, but I’m glad you did because you have become very dear to me.

Thank you for giving me the final push to really get Queried Sick out there. Also thank you for writing half of the new bad query quotes for that book and helping me with a title because I’m shit at titles and really could NOT come up with anything besides the original fic title. Thank you for being willing to meet up for a bookstore date (and for also not being a serial killer). Thank you for being my in person fanfic friend that I can scream about fic and gay books with and totally kick ass in an escape room with. Also thank you for clearly being the kind of friend that I can not really talk to for like two months(?) and yet still call a friend.

(Ps, the heart attack I had when I realized we lived so close is still one of my favorite stories, even though no one finds it as funny as I do)

Mutuals I Love (March Edition)

(done at the end of march because i chat with a bunch of folks all the time but would argue that my ~circle~ remains pretty small and i really just. love these people a lot.)

It would honestly be a little disrespectful of me to not start with Dallas (aka @mooncat457writing) for this when she's one of the first folks I started talking to when I decided to start using my tumblr full time.

I somehow accidentally discovered that she was the author of Of Queries and Quarantines (which is becoming a whole ass published book soon! check out Dallas' author site! how cool is she!!) and went to scream in her DMs, and then shortly thereafter discovered that we were kindred spirits and that I was a little obsessed with her.

When we met up for the first time (and both breathed out a sigh of relief when we discovered that the other wasn't a stalker/serial killer), not only did she tolerate one of my worst baking fails in recent history (it was rice krispie treats, y'all. i worked at a bakery for years, am capable of executing all sorts of difficult baking/cooking techniques, and was bested by fucking rice krispie treats), but she also let me ramble on for ages about my recent Hot Girl Summer™ moment, then took me on a multi-hour exploration of numerous bookstores and home decor stores. (During which time she offered up A+ book recs to a girl who approached us in a barnes and noble and very kindly didn't make fun of me for purchasing cinnamon soda because i thought i'd like it.)

She's nice! She's funny! She's cool! I love her!

At this point, we've undergone many a multi-hour reading/writing session, and every time we end up spiralling off into discussions of our steadily growing WIP lists (and accidentally adding to them as we swap HCs back and forth) that make me chuckle uncontrollably. She's also witnessed my (failed) attempt at a bookstagram account and supported me in it, even when I was literally the worst bookstagrammer ever to bookstagram. (Sorry.)

In the best ways possible, Dallas reminds me that there are brilliant futures to be had for people like me, and I can't thank her enough for instilling that sort of hope in my life (even if she didn't know she was doing it at the time). I'm so proud of the work she's put into Queried Sick (even though I was too busy to be helpful), and am beyond delighted to both call her a fellow friend and fanfiction author.

My first real-life fanfiction friend, the only person I'd read a text fic from, a pal so lovely that she decided to write a t-swift inspired fic for CSFF to support the fest, and the only person on tumblr to nearly give me a heart attack after making me think that we might live in the same apartment.

Thank you for (1) not being a serial killer (2) letting me bounce ideas around with you all the time (3) bringing me cookies/pretzel bread when we meet up (4) not making fun of all of the old-lady tendencies I have at the ripe old age of [redacted].

I love you Dallas, never change.

I just got the first preview of my books cover, and let me tell you, after a tough therapy session, it was the pick me up I needed. Seeing Oliver and Ezra come to live via illustration just brought me so much joy and made some of this stressful shit seem a little more worth it. I can’t wait for y’all to meet them.

A follow up to The Not Backup Date:

Finally, Sirius broke the silence. “Alright, “ he said before spitting and rinsing his mouth, “this is weird.”

“What’s—” Remus started, then decided to spit and rinse first. “What’s weird?”

“This.” Sirius waved a hand between them. “You’re all quiet. And before you say, ‘I’m always quiet,’ it’s not in your normal quiet-Remus way. It’s in your uncomfortable-Remus way. You don’t regret asking me to be your date to the Yule Ball, do you?”

“What? No, of course not,” Remus said before looking over his shoulder at the open door. He looked back to Sirius, who picked his wand up off the counter and waved it at the door to shut it.

“Okay, then what’s wrong?” Sirius asked. “Are you worried about what James and Peter are going to say?”

“Well, a little, but that’s not—” Remus sighed. “I don’t know how I’m supposed to act around you anymore.”

Sirius frowned—that adorable little frown he did whenever he was confused. “What do you mean?”

“I don’t know. Things are different now, aren’t they? Doesn’t that mean we should act differently?” Remus asked.

“Not necessarily,” Sirius said. “Do you want us to act differently?”

“Yes. No. I don’t know.” Remus looked at his feet. He heard Sirius take in a slow breath, then Sirius laced their fingers together, forcing him to look up.

Sirius smiled softly, if not a little nervously. “I don’t want things to change between us, at least not too much. I love our friendship too much for it to change completely.”

Remus couldn’t help smiling back. “Me, too.”

“But,” Sirius continued, “if you wanted to hold hands while we walk to class and cuddle by the fire in the common room, I think those are changes I’d like.”

Remus’ smile broadened, and he squeezed Sirius’ hand. “I’d like that, too.”

“And eventually kissing,” Sirius added.

“Eventually? Why not now?”

“I want to take you on a proper date before I kiss you. I’m old-fashioned like that.”
