SIMS 4 MOD MALWARE

This isn't what I usually post about, but theres been malware from sims 4 mods. Specifiallly from mods hosted onCurseforge, TheSimsResource, and ModTheSims. It's a lot like the Minecraft Fractureiser virus. The downloaded mod's contain .EXE files that steal personal data and harm computers. The current known infected mods:

"To recap, here are the mods we know for sure were affected by the recent malware outbreak: "Cult Mod v2" uploaded to ModTheSims by PimpMySims (impostor account) "Social Events - Unlimited Time" uploaded to CurseForge by MySims4 (single-use account) "Weather and Forecast Cheat Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account) "Seasons Cheats Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account) "Motherlode Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account) "Mood Cheat Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account) "Mouth Preset N16" uploaded to The Sims Resource by PlayersWonderland (hacked, real account)" -copied from the sims after dark server!

I'm horrible at explaining but please go check out this post on reddit, run an anti-virus scan if you downloaded any recent sims 4 mods, and perhaps join the sims after dark discord server.

⚠️ ADVISORY: Malicious Mods, Identity Theft, Malware, and You ⚠️

Hey, all! Not sure how many people will see this, but if you do, please reblog. This is a 'little' post regarding a potentially big problem affecting the Sims 4 community. If you download mods/CC at all (and yes I know CC is a type of mod), this applies to you.

TL;DR: For the sake of your personal info, identity, bank account, et cetera, please STOP downloading any mods/CC for the time being. Especially from the following sites: CurseForge, ModTheSims, The Sims Resource. It doesn't matter if you know the creator or not. Give it at least a week while we all figure out what's going on. If you must, I would recommend only downloading directly from a creator's Patreon (assuming they have one).

Other people have written at length about the mods in question, so I'll just share their posts below.

What's going on?

From the Sims 4 After Dark Discord server (a server you should join if you're not in it already):

⚠️If you downloaded any mod listed in the above post and played the game with them installed, this is the cleaner program Kuttoe (creator of the Home Regions and Townie Demographics mods) mentioned in their post: GitHub - overwolf/sims4-social-events-cleaner: Source files and exe release for a tool to clean up your machine if you have downloaded the "Social Events - Unlimited Time" Sims 4 mod ⚠️

Got confirmation from Kuttoe that as long as you didn't boot up the game with the malicious mods installed (or deleted them completely from your computer before playing the game), you *should* be fine. Still, I recommend that anyone who thinks they might have downloaded any of them run the cleaner program.

So, to recap:

Fake mods were uploaded to Curseforge, ModTheSims, and The Sims Resource

@msqsimsofficial had their account compromised on 2 of those sites (they are a victim of hacking, so do not send them hate!)

If downloaded, these malicious mods have the ability to steal very sensitive info (your passwords, credit card info if saved somewhere in your browser, data)

As of right now, antivirus software may not be able to detect the malware

Mac and Linux users seem to be safe; Windows users are the ones that could be affected

Why is this happening?

Unsure. Lots of theories are being made by people far more knowledgeable than me, but from the looks of things, could be crypto bullshit and/or an attempt to steal your data and sell it. This is very, very serious, and could wreck your life if said data/personal info falls into the wrong hands.

It's always a good idea to change passwords every couple of months or so, but if you think you've been affected, you also need to change your passwords for things like online banking, email and social media accounts, healthcare sites AFTER running the cleaner.

What now?

I want to talk about how we approach modding our games and downloading files in general.

Please STOP downloading mod file folders from people who did not create the specific mods. Period. This includes Sim dumps, building/lots with CC, mod folders promoted on YouTube, etc. This does not mean that anyone sharing them is doing so maliciously. In fact, I appreciate the amount of effort people put into compiling these resources! But unless you're super careful (and super knowledgeable), you run the risk of downloading malware like this on your computer. Make no mistake, the malicious files in question look like run-of-the-mill, everyday mods. Two of them were even posted from a trustworthy creator's actual account! The only way to know what they actually do is to peek into the code, and idk about you, but I don't know Python. So even after this issue is resolved, you really should only download files from the creators themselves.

But what about CC shopping?

Here's how I like to approach it: I stick to lookbooks and combing through the Patreons/accounts of creators who make items I like. If I see a Sim dump with CC that I'm interested, I try to reach out to the poster and ask where they got specific CC. If I can't do that, I see if it was shared via Drive, look at the individual files themselves, then head to the original CC creator's official download page and get it from the source.

I've been pretty quiet on here, but that doesn't mean I've stopped simming! First up I'd like to say thanks (and sorry!) to all the lovely people who've sent me messages :) I'm gonna try my best to reply to everyone asap!

For christmas I wanted to share something special - so here is the public release of the first version of my Decorating Tools mod (or S3DT)

Quick Description - This mod adds hotkeys to the game to allow you to move objects up/down, left/right and rotate in all directions, similar to T.O.O.L for TS4 PDF Guide included below!

Guys, I have one piece of advice for you that will seriously improve your time on simblr: If you love someone's story, let them know. Leave a comment, send an ask, whatever. Do it on anon if you're scared. And don't worry about coming off as unhinged. Honestly, the more details and rambling you put in, the better. There is literally nothing that makes an artist feel better than having someone tell them that they love their work.

So if someone's latest story post made you cry, tell them! Or if their edit gave you chills, tell them!!! And let me tell you a secret. Nothing motivates people to work on their stories more than knowing that other people love them and want to see more.

Nothing feels better than seeing someone answer your ask or reply to your comment, and seeing how happy they are. Trust me on this. It feels amazing. You'll make their day, and make your own day better too. And maybe, just maybe, you'll be the push they need to open their game and work on the next post.

Oh, and if you want them to love you forever, include details! Say what specific lines made you feel so strongly, or offer theories on what's going to happen next. Tell them who your favorite character is, or what antagonist is making your teeth grind. Storytellers put so much effort into their posts and their writing, and having someone pick up on the details is so immensely gratifying.

Dear EA

Disclaimer: This is my opinion.

EA is greedy. Proof: TS4.

I don't know if The Sims 5 will happen. But if it does…

TS5 basegame better be GOOD. EA has money to make a solid basegame. Budget isn't a question anymore, not after TS4 happened.

I repeat: Basegame better be good. That includes A COLORWHEEL, KIDS, CARS, EVERY FUCKING SKINTONE, POOLS, BASEMENTS… EVERYTHING, and I mean everything, better be available on basegame, ON DAY ONE. By everything, I mean the bare minimum. Yes, mistakes are inevitable for any launch. I'm aware. I just don't wanna hear SHIT about basegame being lack-luster. I hope EA steps it up. They have the coin to do so.

In short: Give us the bare minimum ON launch day.

Oh and Simoleons better REMAIN as Simoleons. No virtual currency. Keep that shit in Freeplay.

I would say put Seasons in basegame too, but that's another conversation…

For me it's personaly disgusting how EA is doing a digital cancelling of it's own games. Disgusting gaslighting and trying convincing the community, that you can't play Sims 2 or Sims 3 on their new download menager (EA app), and better to move your ass to "The Sims 4" trolley, because they can't fix things like that and that's just how life goes. Pretending being hopeless idiot to force you to move to Sims 4 and buy new packs. Because of 💸💵💲

A word given by corporations means nothing. Curious when Sims 4 will hit it's expiry date in similar manner. Along the years it seems this date become shorter and shorter for games, because of greed. They even use a pretty word "sunsetting" for that, and sees nothing wrong with it.
