In TTAZZ Justin mentions that their viewers tanked after Balance ended so I just wanted to recommend The Adventure Zone: Amnesty to Balance fans!

While it’s not the same characters or fantasy feel to it, the other characters the Mcelroys made are loveable in their own ways and the podcast has a nice aesthetic going on about it. It takes place in West Virginia and involves stories of cryptids such as bigfoot, vampires, Goatman, The Mothman, Indrid Cold, and even more creepy shit!

I’ve seen some people say it’s hard to transition to something so different with characters that aren’t Balance, but I began the original TAZ like that.

It starts off slow with character creation and plot buildup of course, but now that the boys seem to know where they’re going with this, it’s turning out to be something special. The characters are becoming more fleshed out, just as loveable, and they’re starting to feel like a family. The soundtrack is also just as bomb!

I’m only almost twenty episodes in, but this story does have twists and turns. There’s one big one with two main characters that I’m breathing anticipating the fallout of once it’s revealed to the characters themselves! Once things start up, they really start going.

There are similar themes to Balance as well: strong, leading woman with deep secrets, another cat character named after a cartoon cat, a badass, bisexual woman who can wield fire (who also has a thing for a vampire lady!), a mysterious character who “looks like she could be a sister if you had one” (sound familiar?), twists and turns in character interactions that are going to be heartbreaking, a character with an odd name that’s “Not really his name,” like, this isn’t even mentioning the npc’s and how cute/badass they all are

it’s not the exact same as Balance, but once you get used to the layout, it can be enjoyed in different ways that Balance wasn’t. Each sub-arc has their own pros and cons, and Amnesty is very unique and, imo, the pros outweigh the cons now.

Also. Ned Chicane is by far one of my favorite Clint McElroy characters. He’s got a super unique story and interactions I’ve not seen in other stories.

it’s a joke when they first suggest it.  neither twin can remember whose idea it was, but after the deed is done they both blame Barry.  because yeah it’s sweet and wonderful, but barry is on their list of favorite people to tease and “barry you’re a fucking monster, how could you suggest this???”  anyways, it’s a joke to have a brother-sister-dance at the wedding in the first place, but lup kinda falls in love with the idea, and then with the song, and well. 

taako wasn’t sure they were actually doing it until the reception, okay?  Lup and Barry do a wonderful first dance and so many people are misty eyed and it was beautiful.  but then a short while later a slow song comes on again and the dance floor clears and lup comes over to where taako and kravitz are playing a half-hearted game of quarters in the corner to drag him out onto the dance floor. 

he’s puzzled, and then the song comes on, and he starts to laugh.  he lets her loop her arms around his neck and he holds her sides and it’s platonic and lovely, and they’re twins, there’s no possible way for them to be uncomfortable with each other anymore, not after growing up in each other’s pockets, sharing clothes, sharing beds, sharing a bunk on the starblaster for the first few months because they couldn’t get used to it without each other

and the song is sweet and a little goofy and they’re both snickering like idiots, but then

the chorus is what gets him,  okay? 

because they spent so long.  so fucking long without each other. and lup was watching the whole time, but taako had forgotten her.  he had no idea she even existed, let alone that she was there, that there was a piece of his life missing, that they’d spent so many moments– and entire lifetime– together and now she was gone.

and he’d missed so much.  he’d lost so much time.  he’d grown into a completely different person without her and she wasn’t there to share it with him

and. and sometimes he couldn’t sleep at night because he was convinced he’d wake up again in his bed at the moonbase dorms and he’d have lost several months and it would have all been a dream

and she’d be gone again

and he wouldn’t fucking remember.

and he’d felt so empty that whole time, had so many years where he’d felt like something was wrong

pausing sentences so an unknown voice could chime in, reaching for someone who wasn’t there when they fled fights, stumbling around the kitchen and stepping out of the way of someone who wasn’t there and beating himself up for thinking that meant he missed sazed or something fucked up like that 

i’d miss you babe, and i don’t wanna miss a thing

and yeah, sometimes he woke up at night and went to check, just to double check, because sharing a home wasn’t enough when he could wake up with the very real fear that she wasn’t in the next room over sleeping peacefully.  that she had disappeared. 

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing 

and after all that. after everything. he would go to hell and back a thousand times to keep her in his life, to keep from losing her again 

i could stay lost in this moment forever

every moment spent with you is a moment i treasure 

and this has fallen off track, but anyways, Taako ends up ugly sobbing while slow dancing with his sister at her wedding, and she just hugs him tight and lets him break down in the middle of the dance floor

So me and @wildgoosery found out about Justin singing a stupid Avril Lavigne tune and then had a big long conv about Krav getting emotional abt Taako singing a pop song badly on purpose for him ……

and then I doodled this BECAUSE I’M STUPID and I’m still devastated over this and frankly I didn’t even mean to post this fuckin stupid thing on the internet but it’s already out there so WHATEV!!!!! orz

Taako is better at Baking.

Lup is better at cooking.

They’re still extremely skilled in both but they have their specialties.

To the untrained tastebuds, it’s hard to impossible to tell which twin made which meal or dessert. To the IPRE its still a close call. But after being taste test dummies to settle kitchen arguments between them they can usually tell who made what with pretty high accuracy.

When Taako forgot Lup and started his own show, which was mostly cooking, he did improve in his cooking enough to where even the Starblaster crew can barely tell the difference. And they know they’ll get crap for getting it wrong.

So like is there any canonical evidence that Lup is actually good at cooking bc I’m coming in with a hot new take which is SHE CANNOT COOK TO SAVE HER OWN LIFE BUT 100% BELIEVES SHE IS STILL BETTER THAN TAAKO ITS THE FULL ON HUBRIS BABY!

The twins keep tripping over (today’s) Davenport’s stool and keep moving it out of the kitchen.
