Dear fireworks, I hate you . Why?
1. The unnecessary noise pollution:
- The noise impacts wildlife, causing them to scatter, flee nests, and run into roadways.
- PTSD. Individuals may be triggered by loud, explosive noises such as veterans or individuals who have been traumatized by similar noises
- Pets. Loud noises trigger their fight-or-flight instincts causing them to remain in a stressful state for a while, increasing their heart rate and blood pressure .
2. The environmental cost:
- Firework noise influences animal behavior, as noted above
- The chemical reaction that occurs when fireworks explode releases carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen-three greenhouse gasses-into the atmosphere. Impacting the air quality . In addition, perchlorate ,a chemical that the EPA states "may disrupt the thyroid’s ability to produce hormones needed for normal growth and development", levels increase post-4th of July celebrations.
- "When fireworks explode in the air, plastics along with other particles are released and drift to the ground where they will never decompose. These particles contain residues of unburnt propellants, along with metal by-products from the colourants which can threaten wildlife if accidentally ingested"
- Employees who work in the firework industry are exposed to hazardous chemicals which impact their health. "The health impacts of firework products are many such as inhalation of firework smoke leads to eosinophilic pneumonia, barium rich aerosols causes asthma, perchlorates damages thyroid glands [8] and it reduces visibility due to opaque cloud formation [9]" link A fireworks factory in Nanyang went up in flames killing 13 people and injuring 32. link video
3. The financial cost:
- The amount of money spent on fireworks by corporations and consumers is, laughable. Absolutely absurd. Here's a link , another link.
4. What does this mean to those negatively impacted by the celebration of "Independence" day?
- Independence for who? I leave you with the words of Frederick Douglass in his oration What to the Slave is the Fourth of July Another link that might be easier to read

One thing that has absolutely challenged (in a positive manner) my ED tendencies is watching "What I eat in a day" videos.
-Earlier in my recovery I used these videos as a template , thinking if I eat like this person maybe I'll look like the YouTuber who filmed them? Over time I realized this is not realistic, because every individual body varies in a million different ways. Although this unrealistic idea existed for a bit, these videos still gave me an idea that "hey! I'm likely not eating enough!" or "Wow, I really would like to challenge myself to try that recipe/food"
- Present day, I watch these videos to gain an understanding of:
- what a full meal looks like
- what balanced nutrition looks like
- that a colorful plate is exciting
- recipes and ingredients I would like to try
- food inspiration, the courage to go out and enjoy a fear food
- knowledge that life and emotions are fluid, and so is the manner in which we eat.
- that it is okay to eat more or less or the ideal amount, that every day is different and intuition is key
Overall, I try to watch a variety of these videos. Following one person narrows the scope, ultimately defeating the purpose of seeing food from different perspectives. I would suggest trying these out, and if they are triggering, if they don't suit you, then that's okay too! I wanted to share an aspect of my recovery that helped immensely, because seeing other people live their lives (the parts that they choose to share on the internet) helps me live my own.

HI 👋 BIGGEST PET PEEVE HAS ENTERED THE CHAT.
the worst kinda ed blogs, the ones who claim are for recovery yet post th1nspo, triggering content and is looking for an "ana buddy". if u were all for recovery then why are u encouraging people's eds?? why are you tagging your posts with a million tags so girls who are suffering can find it and be spurred on to continue their behaviours?? you all claim to be pro recovery yet you love to spread your sickness wherever you can, including following blogs who want absolutely nothing to do with you.

Whatever it may look like in this moment. Whether that was, "I got out of bed!" or "I absolutely crushed my entire to-do list!" or "I heated up a can of soup!" or "I cooked a five-course dinner from scratch!"

have you eaten yet today? if no, try to eat something. any calories >>> none. if you have a hard time knowing what foods to eat, try pinning a list of foods you ate and enjoyed somewhere where you'll see it when meal planning (kitchen, near your desk, by your bed, etc.)
have you drank any liquids recently? try to drink ~8oz, a cup, or whatever you can manage right now! water, juice, soda, milks, anything you can drink.
have you taken your meds? pills, injections, anything of that ilk. if you have medical equipment, is there anything you need to do for it, such as cleaning it, refilling something, charging it, anything like that?
how's your sleep today? if you haven't slept much, is there anything that would help you rest, nap, or be prepared to sleep more soon? a common cause of insomnia is anxiety - consider writing down before bed what you feel anxious about, and physically close whatever you made the note in while acknowledging that you have these anxieties, and you are allowed to let go right now.
have you said something nice about yourself today? try approaching a mirror, opening your camera, or in some way acknowledging yourself while saying something positive or at least neutral about yourself. some examples could be "i like my hair today", "i am wearing clothes that i like", "I am proud of myself for doing my laundry today"
is your laundry in the washer? in the dryer? what about dishes? anything else easy to set and forget about that you need to check on?
what inspires you to feel cared for? is it physical touch? being around others? making a meal you enjoy? crafting? rocking out to a song you enjoy? whatever it is, can you set aside a time today to do that?
feel free to add on! all of you deserve to feel cared for.

I’m a full believer in doing small things for yourself to cultivate your soul without having to tell anybody especially in a day and age where people feel the need to capitalize on every aspect of themselves to create an aestheticized identity… like learning a language going on a run writing a poem practicing your craft going to a museum dancing for fun can and should give you personal fulfillment that doesn’t have to be presented through a lens or validated by an audience
