People act so strange when I'm in my wheelchair like:
Apologizing for coming within ten feet of me at stores.
People talking down to me, or treating me like a child.
People literally moving me in my wheelchair to get me out of their way.
Excessively complimenting me and invading my personal space to touch me.
Saying "do you have a license for that thing?" Or stuff like "look out for speed racer!" Like shut up omg.

Wheelchair users:
Don't owe you an explanation if they walk and sometimes use a wheelchair.
They don't need to tell you why they can't walk if they can't walk.
Ambulatory wheelchair users don't have to walk because you don't want them to use a wheelchair.
Don't tell them they're "lucky" cause they get to sit, it's just rude.
Don't! Use! Them! As! A! Shopping! Cart! Basically, don't set things on them cause you don't want to carry something.

The past couple of days have been a whirlwind, like a real whirlwind. Fighting for our rights is exhausting, and we've been doing it for years, but now we've been just doing it more vocally. It's been crazy seeing so many news stations have covered it, but what's crazier is seeing people who I've known will my life, people who knew me and my siblings who are saying stuff like, "the school has done enough, you are being entitled." And other things like, "life is hard, get over it." The lack of compassion for disabled people is astounding. People who have known us our entire life are going against us because they can't understand how inaccessibility affects us. They can't look outside themselves to understand what it's like for us. It's all about their kids and their families. Outside of that, it doesn't matter. But it should. People need to understand that disabled people are a minority that needs to be protected.

People love coming up to me and saying how adorable I am,,,I'm always like, thank you? But then they go on about how I'm like...such, a cute little girl. It is frustrating because I'm an adult woman, I'm not a child, I'm the height of one. Like I know they're well-meaning, and I think that they're trying to be nice and maybe don't know how to interact with disabled people? Or maybe I am just adorable. Who knows.

I swear, people lately have been INSANE! My family and I were at karaoke with two family friends, and this lady came up to my sister and asked, "What facility are you from?" My sister said 'facility?" She said,"I don't know what it's called," then my sister responded "like what part of town?" She replied."I don't know what it's called. Oh, are you part of a group home?" Because my brother and I are in wheelchairs, my sister (the one that they always seem to approach) said, "No? This is my family," and she said she wanted to come to our house to do a karaoke thing? We were like...no? It was truly strange. We were at a bar for karaoke, and we all look related? Why would any of that make sense. But being disabled means people come up and say the most wild things. 🙄
