Romance Series: Love and War (The Morrigan and Gabriel)

My contribution to this valentines day is an original piece of mine and the beginning of a romantic series I’d like to do of couples from myths and legends (and sometimes my own stories). Especially couples that doesn’t always make the most sense. This is certainly the case for Morgan and Gabriel, who seem like two people who couldn’t stand each other. And yet, perhaps an angel is one of the few beings who can see past the nature of a hardened battle goddess and see the beauty below.

It’s been quite a week for me, so I decided to take the day off today and create some couples drawings. The first is Gabriel and the Morrigan from a comic series of mine. The second is Hades and Persephone. Light and dark couples to keep in theme with the Halloween season.

Day 4 is the lovely belladonna fairy. Be careful with her. She might be gorgeous but her beautiful comes at a price. I’m doing poisonous flower fairies with @thegorgonist and @staceart. If you haven’t already you should check out their fairies.

Day 3 of not Inktober is the toadstool fairy. These two sisters are enjoying a rainy day together. However, unless you are one of these fairies, I don’t suggest you mess with this fungi as it is poisonous. I’m inking and watercoloring poisonous flower fairies with @thegorgonist and @staceart

Aconite (Wolfsbane)

Day 1 of drawtober or drawollween (not sure which one we’re doing yet), and since @thegorgonist and @staceart are adding color to their pieces, I’ve decided to include some watercolor with my ink drawings. My first of our poisonous flower fairy is aconite or a wolfsbane fairy.

Day 18 of sketchtember is the oleander fairy. Apparently, this plant appears in Greek mythology as a hallucinogenic that is used by the pythia. However, don’t use it as it is poisonous to mammals and that includes humans. I’m doing this with @thegorgonist and @staceart

Day 12 of sketchtember is the Kudu flower or desert rose. Apparently people in Africa have used the sap for poisoned arrows to hunt big game. I’m doing this with @thegorgonist and @staceart and drawing poisonous flower fairies.

Day 11 of sketchtember. Today’s fairy is a horse chestnut fairy. I used to pick these up as a child. I was always told not to eat them but we would use them in crafts. I’m doing poison flower fairies with @thegorgonist and @staceart.

Day 10 of Sketchtember and I had a bit of an oops yesterday. Instead of drawing a fairy for the Hemlock flower I drew a fairy for the hemlock-tree which is not a poisonous flower. I’m doing this with @theGorgonist and @StacyLeFevre

Day 6 of sketchtember and today’s fairy is the mushroom destroying angel. This is a highly toxic mushroom and perhaps the poster board for why you shouldn’t pick wild mushrooms unless you know what you’re doing!! I gave her more angelic wings due to her name. I’m doing poisonous flower fairies with @thegorgonist and @staceart this month.

Day 5 of sketchtember is the castor bean. One thing @thegorgonist and I noted was how many poisonous plants are also essential to our life, like oil. I had a bit of a Harley Quinn inspiration here. The beans kinda look like Pom poms, so a I wanted to do this flower fairy with pigtails.

Day 4 of sketchtember and today’s poisonous flowers is the lovely but deadly belladonna. This decievingly pretty plant is actually responsible for the term “drop dead gorgeous” as European women used to use the plant to make their pupils dilate which used to be considered to be very pretty. I’m doing these deadly flower fairies with @thegorgonist and @staceart for the next 31 days.

I’ve been reading Kaoru Mori’s “A Brides Tale” and it’s got me thinking on my Morrigan comic series again. The detail in her work is amazing and would be something I hope to achieve in my Morrigan series someday. So I just did some sketches for it.

Sometimes you draw your best at 1am in the morning. Revisiting some of my OC, the Morrigan and the Angel Gabriel. I was listening to Moorloch Shore on repeat while I was drawing this. If any of you read my webcomic from a few years ago, this is a bit spoliery, but I felt compelled to draw a tender moment between them.

I am Thee, and Thee am Thou

A little homage piece to my favorite couple in Persona 5. Ever since I saw Joker rescue Makoto from the Sphinx, it felt like Queen was the one of all his companions who he truly loved and would do anything for. As though their bond went deeper than just friendship. Not only that, but of all the group, Makoto seems to be the one who is his equal, not just his follower.

Trying out Nadiya Hussain’s PBJ pancake tray bake as a possible breakfast. It’s actually pretty good.
