Apr 15 - experimented with photographing one of the oversized photo albums. Results unsatisfactory; problems with the shadow of my hands and phone, or glare from lights reflecting off the photos. Tried having album propped up at an angle to hopefully solve those and it's too unwieldy for that to work either. Need to find a location where it can lie flat better with indirect diffuse lighting or something. Cut day short and added some more ebooks to my library as a break from all the scanning.
Nephew made a chicken and spinach orzo with pesto dish for supper; tasty!

Apr 13 - Yet More Scanning (of course). Just one album today, it was one of those fairly old ones fastened together with what was basically a shoelace and long interlocking grommets at one end, so I unfastened it to making scanning simpler, and then had to reassemble it afterwards. Nephew out again, I had a small pizza for supper.
Apr 14 - Another laced-up album to take apart and scan and reassemble. Then the loose photos from inside two albums that are both too large to fit in my scanner, so I'll need to photograph their pages another day. And then a small cardboard box of random photos, documents, negatives, and what turned out to be a small stack of handwritten recipes, probably from some time in the late 40s through early 60s as one of them was for a jellied salad. It was based on minced cooked beets, diced apple, celery, and green peas in lemon jello seasoned with salt, cayenne pepper, and vinegar, and with some of the water replaced with salad cream. *Shudders*
Nephew made a meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and steamed mixed veg for supper.

I mean... I don't tend to count anything that isn't from the modern fandom traditions. But if we're stretching the point, then yes, it's based on an existing tale. I think almost all of Shakespeare's plays are.
From Wikipedia:
The plot is based on an Italian tale written by Matteo Bandello and translated into verse as The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet by Arthur Brooke in 1562 and retold in prose in Palace of Pleasure by William Painter in 1567. Shakespeare borrowed heavily from both but expanded the plot by developing a number of supporting characters, in particular Mercutio and Paris.

remember when you could say stuff like “the earth is round” or “nazis are bad” and be absolutely certain everyone who heard you would agree

Apr 10 - started in on doing more photo scanning (which is what I'm down here for). Got a small album and two big binders gone through. Nephew made cheesy pork enchiladas for supper, which we had topped with salsa and sour cream.
Apr 11 - scanned a big scrapbook of a road trip the BIL took as a kid with his family down into Maine and Vermont. Had fun looking up some of the places they visited to see if they still existed, like Animal Forest Park, and the Rockmere B&B. Also scanned a wedding album that seems to be of the BIL's paternal grandparents, from just after the start of the 1900s, and included things like newspaper clippings about the marriages of their own eventual children, and the golden wedding anniversary of the groom's parents. So fairly valuable from a genealogical perspective.
Nephew made a big salad for supper, with haddock fillets and toasted almonds for protein.
Apr 12 - slow day, didn't get much done until late in the day, when I spent time removing photos from several foam core panels so that I could scan them. Nephew was out this evening so it was just me for supper. Had overdone snacking earlier in the day so just had a Jamaican beef pattie and later an ice cream bar (which I'm trying to convince myself is dairy and protein, but I'm not really buying it).

I am glad that bee hummingbirds hatch nests of eggs each smaller than a pea. I am glad that there are oceans two miles deep where fishes unknown to science glow like fireflies.
I am glad that the crumbs taken from my bedroom are returned to tiny cities built by ants, and that the thunder of the storms rolling in from the north trembles in my chest when it is still a ways off. Hello, says the world, you are so little. Hello, says the world, you are so big.
