Scribble Drawing: Warm and Cool Colors Assignment
I am teaching a Cubism Unit with my middle schoolers when they come back from break and I created a Video with step by step instructions to help them with the project.
Learn how to make a cubism inspired scribble drawing.
Materials:
- pencil
- paper
- 6 colors: 3 warm (red, orange, yellow) and 3 cool (green, blue, purple) (I also used black and brown markers)
Step one: Scribble all over the paper Step two: Find a representational object within your scribbles Step three: Use either warm or cool colors to fill in the shapes. I used warm colors to fill in the bird Step four: Use your remaining colors to fill in the shapes in the background. Optional final step: Outline your object for more contrast!

Piklr E
I have been hearing about Piklr since the beginning of online learning and am just know learning the in's and out's of the program. Pixlr E (for photo editing) is an extremely easy program to use. I was happy with how intuitive the program was and found that I could make really simple collages using the program. there are all the basic tools that you would find in photoshop but they are more clearly labeled. I was easily able to select specific things from pictures I had taken and collage them into a piece that I was happy with. The one thing I really like about the program is that it automatically saves projects that students are working on so if they accidently close their computer or their battery runs out then their work is still there for them after.

Kahoot!
"Kahoot! is a game based learning platform that allows you to create and play learning games, trivia, and quizzes." I used Kahoot! as a last day wrap up with my middle schoolers at the end of the quarter. The questions were based around things that we learned in class. Kahoot! records the answers of each player and then gives you a break down of the scores so you can see what students struggled with what concepts and later use that to improve your teaching.

Scribble.io
Scribble.io is a fun drawing game for students to play when they have finished all of their work and are looking to do something as a group during this pandemic. Scribble.io helps support Language Arts because students are learning new words and practicing spelling. It also challenges students to draw from their memory and think about how to depict things in various ways. Below is a screenshot from a public game that I was playing. If you have students or friends that want to play then you should do a private game because not everyone uses kind language on the public servers.

Google Drawings
If you have a google account then you have access to Google Draw! Google Drawings is a free program, offered through google, that allows users to create drawings, trace images, insert shapes, and more. I used google draw to make my profile icon. I started with a picture of myself and then used the polyline to make shapes and color them accordingly. To access google drawings go to your dive, hit the new button, then scroll down to more, located under google forms, and there should be an option for google drawings. Google Drawings automatically saves to your drive when you're done working!

Mr. Doob: Spin Painter
Another program from Mr. Doob that has some nostalgia for all of the kids who played with those paint spinners as kids. Spin Painter spins the screen, at a speed chosen by you, and plops down paint of different sizes, also controlled by you, to create designs. The only thing about this program is that you cannot choose the colors you use, they automatically cycle through, but it is fun to play around with nonetheless.

Mr. Doob: Voxels
When I tell my students about Mr. Doob: Voxels I compare it to mine craft because they both use colorful blocks to build worlds. Voxels gives you 9 colors that you can use to build with. Click to add blocks, shift and click to remove blocks, drag the screen to rotate your work, and press 0-9 to change the colors.
You can also use the arrow keys to move your entire design around.
