art vs artist 2023

I lamented the fact that I wasn't able to draw at all this year... earlier in the year my chronic pain that I worked so hard to manage returned and I felt like maybe I would have to give up drawing... not quite!

(in dealing with what might possibly be de quervain's syndrome) I am trying to recontextualize my relationship with art. Last year when I posted an art vs artist, I realized that forcing myself to take extended breaks has been a great refresher and a great tool at preventing art blocks. I absolutely miss drawing every day, and sometimes I feel like the FOMO is getting worse, but I understand that even if I was able to draw as much as I wished, getting older means having to attend to more responsibilities.

also get used to me not really rendering stuff because it can be a bit taxing (and because my tablet has refused to work with my computer for several months now). This was the first year in a long time where my art actually got traction and most of the pieces that went far were ones that were simple un-rendered doodles! tumblr treats me so well, much more than twt has ever done (even before smelly mc nasty took over). You will still see me around-just at my own pace. Thanks for continuing to stick around if you're here.

i know i complain about this a lot but i wish people would try to engage with their followers and the people consistently interested in their art and incentivize that before posting guilt trippy "reblogs > likes. likes are useless" stuff. youre alienating the people showing interest in your stuff and making so people who were passive supporters wont be into your stuff anymore from being villainized (and passive supporters can become your biggest active supporters with time and reaching out)

This isn't my usual fare, but in celebration of the newest trailer reveal for walpurgis no kaiten, I'll share some madoka magica AMVs that I made several years ago; mostly revolving around Rebellion.

The first is a tribute to Rebellion Story as a whole, set to New Order's The Perfect Kiss. The second one is more madohomu-focused, and is set to There is a Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths. They're dinky in quality and a little corny in some ways, but I hope someone out there enjoys them. I certainly did, while making these all those years ago.
