Ever think of how callous it is of the adults in Evangelion to throw children out to fight their battles? Literal world ending, life or death, "if you leave, everyone will die, and it is all your fault" situations. They are expected to be on constant standby to throw themselves into the line of fire to protect humanity. The kids barely get to act like children, let alone enjoy regular downtime and relaxation. When they are horrendously injured, the reaction is "calm down; it's not your real arm; you feel all the pain and suffer the trauma of having your arm broken, head ripped off, being shot/stabbed. Shake it off. You're fine."

Shinji's first time in Unit 01 is a combination of emotional manipulation, coercion, and blatant lies. He is often lied to by adults as they spend most of the series hiding the truth from him or excluding important information. They all make excuses as to why they cannot tell him the truth, usually because "it would hurt him," and then he gets hurt anyway. It's fascinating to me how this child that was living a life of neglect as a civilian is thrown into being a child soldier and is constantly used and abused by the adults.

The whole "Shinji is a wimp" or "whiney" rhetoric makes me scoff in disgust.

Of course the boy has issues; he's heavily traumatized. These dismissive comments show me that mental illness education has a long way to go. Trauma is real. PTSD sucks and makes you do weird out of character things. Choose empathy instead of being callous.

This is an absolutely wonderful post OP, but at the same time, I read “half hum, half moan,” and my brain immediately went to this:

loid doesn’t wear his glasses too often, but if he’s stressed or over working himself, he’ll almost always be wearing them since his stress brings eye strain. and yor knows this of course. she’s his wife and best friend, she knows every little secret and detail there is to know about him. so anytime she sees him sitting in his arm chair, sighing to himself with a little frustrated groan as he tips his head back, yor will make her way over to him and carefully straddle his lap. she’ll sit on his thighs and gently hold his jaw in her fingertips as he moves his head to look at her. she’ll run her fingers through his messy hair, smiling softly at him. they’ll murmur back and forth for a little, just checking in on loid to make sure he’s mentally okay. she’ll ask if she’s bothering him and he just slips his hands up her bare back since she’s wearing her backless red sweater and the slightest hint of a smirk graces his lips because his hot wife sitting on him?? being a bother??? not possible. and it isn’t until a small giggle passes yor’s lips when he tilts his chin up to kiss her slowly. after a pause to smile softly in content, loid goes back in for a longer kiss, but before his lips can touch hers, yor delicately takes his glasses off and kisses him deeply as she blindly sets them on the table nearby. it’s one of those kisses where loids half humming half moaning into her mouth. it’s just a lazy, good kiss. and after a fair few minutes of making out, yor goes to ask him again how he’s feeling about work, and he just tells her that with her on top of him, kissing him like that, all the stress in the world is off of his shoulders.

the angst lover in me can’t get enough of the hc that angel’s love language is physical touch. he mentions it to aki nonchalantly once and aki’s heart just shatters into a million pieces. angel is just sitting there, all curled up with his knees up to his chest like the tiny little guy he is, and he doesn’t look upset necessarily, but there’s this sadness you can see deep in his eyes as he says it. and aki just hates the fact that his angel’s love language is physical touch when that’s the one thing he can never truly have.

the moment denji and power find out aki and angel are dating, they pester them with so many questions. “does angel have to stand on a chair when he kisses you since he’s so short? oh wait you guys can’t do that cause of the whole touch thing… what’s the point of dating if you guys can’t fu—” or just general questions about how the touch thing works in various sexual hypotheticals (because duh, it’s denji). aki knows better so he tries his best to ignore it, but angel is a little instigator so he’ll entertain every question denji asks in detail just to see aki’s horrified look
