A/N: Hello! I mentioned a writing event before (and I think I once alluded to it as a “surprise” in the tags of a post), and now it’s finally here! To celebrate love, I’ll be doing 14 Days of Kisses — that means everyday for the next two weeks, I’ll be writing a drabble about a different character/type of kiss! First up is Tenya~
Words: 725
Warnings: Vague mentions of math, read at your own risk
Summary: You hate math, but you like the guy who’s really good at it.
“I just don’t get this stuff,” you said with a sigh. Cradling your head in your hands, you leaned back in your chair, staring up at the ceiling.
“That’s why I’m here! I’ll stay with you until you get it!” Tenya said.
“I hope you’re ready to die in that seat, because I don’t think anything’s gonna click in this lifetime.”
“Well,” he said, “You certainly won’t be mastering the material in the textbook if you refuse to look at the page.” You laughed at that, even more at the matter-of-fact delivery than the words themselves. “I hope you can still laugh at my words after you see your grade on the next test.”
“Iida!” You gasped, lifting your head up a little to look at him. “That was harsh, even for you.”
“I would rather be harsh with you and see you succeed than let you wander freely to your own failure.” He pushed his glasses up.
“How kind,” you grumbled, letting your head drop back again.
Of course, he was right. It wasn’t that you didn’t appreciate his help— honestly, without him constantly hounding you about it, you would have completely fallen behind in math— but you were just so tired. It felt unproductive to be sitting here while you couldn’t even concentrate, and it wasn’t like you had an awful lot of time to be spending it so carelessly. Frankly, if it were anyone else trying to study with you right now, you would have walked away long ago, but… because it was him, you thought maybe the time spent not learning wouldn’t necessarily be wasted.
“L/N…” You knew he was pressing his lips together without even having to look at him. Sighing again, you closed your eyes. “Hey! Are you trying to nap while I’m tutoring you? That’s no way to show your appreciation!”
Your eyes snapped open, and in a flash, you were sitting forward in your seat, elbows halfway across the small table between you. “Oh? What is?”
Tenya’s eyes widened, and it was a struggle to keep the smugness off your face when you noticed his going red. “W-what is what?”
“What’s a good way to show my appreciation, Mr. Class Rep?”
He swallowed. “For starters, y-you could show some respect by sitting properly.”
“Oh, my bad!” You pulled back as Tenya let out a silent, premature sigh of relief. Pulling your legs up onto the chair and shifting your weight to your shins, you leaned forward again, this time reaching even farther. You could see your wide smile reflected off of the lens of his glasses. “Is this better?”
“Hardly.” The word caught in his throat. His wide blue eyes flicked down to your lips for a second before returning to your gaze with a slight sense of alarm. You expected him to draw back, but to your surprise, he inched closer.
Closing the gap between you, you kissed him, your eyes drifting closed as you marveled at the way he first stiffened and then melted right into it. It wasn’t a particularly long kiss, but it wasn’t just a peck, either. You pulled back and looked at him, tilting your head as you gauged his reaction.
“Is it better now, Tenya?”
“Y/N…?” His face was getting progressively redder as he processed what just happened. “L/N! D-did you just—! Did we—! Why would—!”
“Man, I’m starved. I think it’s about time we stop for a snack break, yeah?” You grinned at him as he started and interrupted another thirty sentences.
Pushing yourself from the table, you made for the kitchen when a hand darted out and closed around your wrist. Startled, you looked down to find an unexpectedly collected Tenya staring you down, eyebrows drawn. Even with the current height advantage, the look on his face was making you feel… timid.
“Y/N, it is very inappropriate to kiss someone out of the blue like that…” he said.
Your heart squeezed painfully in your chest. You hadn’t planned to kiss him, but when you did it, you thought he was into it. You thought he felt the same. Then again, you could have been reading the signs wrong all along. Perhaps what you considered mutual flirting, he had only seen as banter and teasing.
“… and then leave before discussing what it means,” he finished, eyeing you expectantly.
