stop making shows about americans in europe… try europeans in america instead. the outrage of not knowing exactly what something costs at a store,, no public transport,, everyone smiling in your face and waiters scaring you by constantly popping up at your table… ice in your water for some reason,, the kind of culture clash i want to see!!

“reblogs aren’t important you’re just whiny”
yeah because when you see this
tell me you don’t get annoyed.
tumblr’s algorithm only cares about posts that are reblogged, it doesn’t count likes. posts don’t get promoted or circulated when they only have likes (the way instagram functions), only reblogs matter for increasing reach on tumblr as a platform.

As amazing as the clone wars is, these issues are real, the blatant islamophobia needs to be addressed and apologized for.
Let's have a conversation about Barriss Offee.
I have a lot of feelings about her, her character, and how she was written, and I want to clarify some things about how harmful her character arc was to me, a Muslim woman.
First, let's make sure we have our timeline in perspective. Her character arc in the original run of The Clone Wars was made by a team of predominantly white, American men in an era that was less than ten years post-9/11, when islamophobia was at one of it's peaks. Anti-muslim, anti-brown, and anti-arab perspectives dominated the media, and the USA was still heavily entangled in wars in the middle east after the invasions that followed 9/11.
Now that we have that in mind, let's take a look at the character herself, and how she was made to embody the stereotypes of a middle eastern woman.
Barriss is a name that is taken from the Turkish/Western Asian Muslim name 'baris', which means peaceful or calm. Whether it was intentional or not, her name is one that comes from Muslim culture.
Barriss, as well as Luminara, wear loose, dark clothing, reminiscent of the abaya or jilbab that is popular in many middle eastern countries, especially in countries like Iraq and other countries the USA was at war with when her character was animated.
She wears a headdress, which can easily be interpreted as a hijab. Though not all muslim women choose to wear the hijab, it is certainly a feature associated with the religion.
In novels, Barriss is described to have a very unique form of lightsabre 'dancing' which involves whirling, which also happens to be the trademark of certain Sufi Islamic order.
Everything from her name to her style of dress to her fighting techniques is reminiscent of a Muslim woman in one way or another.
Which is why the writer's decision to have this character in particular, out of all the characters available, be the one to bomb the jedi temple in an act of deliberate and political terrorism, is simply unacceptable.
It is yet another example of media villainising Muslims, even if it is done through fantasy imagery. Her character, the once loving and peaceful padawan, was turned into a terrorist by a group of white men who saw her resemblance to a Muslim woman and decided she would make the perfect villain based on stereotypes and looks alone.
This is nothing short of islamophobia, let us be clear, and it is unacceptable and harmful to Muslim women who are the ones to suffer the fallout after decisions like these.
