Happy New Year!!! (in 7 hours for me)

I’ve just read the new tale and how I’ve missed my dear wife! There were a few things I found odd but that’s for another time. Here’s some headcanons before the tale begins and some after as I feel like we hadn’t done much exploring.

Though I’m sure Nadia having MC on top of a map to do her own exploring would beg to differ 👀

Traveling to Prakra HCs

Smooth sailing…

“Are you all set, dear” Nadia’s voice drifts down to MC’s ears as they stand in awe of the ship Nadia had commissioned for this trip. It’s not a ship of colossal size but one that is modified only to be manned by an individual. She intends for this trip to only include the both of you and your familiars. That way she can maximize her and MC’s “alone time”.

“A week out at sea with just us for company. Whatever shall we do to occupy our time, my MC?” her nails treads down MC’s back, leaving light scratches as her heated gaze sends their cheeks aflame. Oh the possibilities

Nadia spared no expense in fitting the interior with any luxury you might want during the trip. This trip has been months in the making and Nadia has promised you she’ll never leave you wanting and she always keeps her promises.

She probably named the ship after you/her nickname for the MC or is a reference to an inside joke only the both of them are in on. It gives her such a thrill to know she finally has someone who she can share a secret language with even as she writes it in big bold letters for the world to see and yet only MC knows its meaning.

Once they’ve finally set sail, with Nadia taking the helm and Chandra flying over the horizon as a look out (where was Chandra in the tale?!? Was she left behind or???), the adventure begins!

MC takes their time to admire Nadia in her element. She looks radiant under the summer sun and they’ve let out a few “My Captain” in jest to see Nadia blush, her grip becoming tighter against the ship’s wheel.

It takes a few hours before the ocean grants them smooth sailing, allowing Nadia and MC to soak up the sun in peace.

Nadia can’t help but fall under the spell MC unknowingly cast upon her as they stare out towards the open sea. Their gaze filled with excitement and anticipation of things to come, of adventures to be had and memories to be made between the two of them.

As if sensing her gaze, MC turns to face Nadia and gives her a smile so incandescent it puts the sun to shame and sets Nadia’s heart into a thundering gallop and her breath to be caught on her throat.

MC will ask her about her fantasies once they get to Prakra but in this moment without them realizing it - this is one of them.

She dreamed of having someone to go on adventures with, journeys that would take them on expeditions across the seas and then back home in each other’s arms. Someone to share thrilling voyages and develop a deeper connection by trying new things but will always carry the familiarity of home in their arms.

Chandra snaps her out of her trance as her graceful familiar lands on her shoulder. Chandra’s knowing gaze pierces through her.

‘She knows’ Nadia’s eyes grow wider by a fraction until she melts into a soft smile. The two share a tender moment as Chandra gently bumps her head into Nadia’s out of affection.

MC wiggles into Nadia’s arms, not wanting to be left out. Nadia sighs in contentment.

The sun, the sea, her familiar and her lover in her arms. This is a dream come true…

Once in Prakra…

From dinner parties to family outings organised by Nasrin to Namar’s impromptu fashion show, it takes more than a few days before Nadia and MC have the time to explore Prakra with just the two of them.

MC can feel the tension Nadia is carrying on her shoulders and so they steal her away before they both get dragged to yet another gala.

Nadia first takes them to the forest where she met Chandra, almost getting lost in the nostalgia of retracing the steps of her adolescence. She keeps her fingers intertwined with MC’s as they traverse deeper into the forest lest they get lost and to keep herself grounded.

She then takes them to the white sand beaches where she used to frequent during moments she needed peace. They walk barefoot, the cool surf surging up to their ankles, with their arms intertwined. Nadia’s telling a story from her younger years when MC’s bubbling laughter makes Nadia realize this had been one of her fantasies too.

Walking along the shoreline with her lover, their arms intertwined, and suspended in a blissful and rose-tinted world. She then at this moment remembers how MC keeps their promises too.

She takes them to her old tinkering tower. The room was just as she left it - her projects had ranged from small toys to bigger mechanics that showed promise of her talents even at such a young age, showed promise of the woman she’ll become.

“I am so proud of you” MC cups her face with devoted hands, their eyes holding waves of love and adoration that threatens to sweep Nadia under and she’ll gladly go under.

OP a lot of your wording comes across as you blaming Nadia for everyone forgiving her and such. It might not be what you meant but it is what it comes across as. Your text intonation and deliverance when it comes to your wording matter when it comes to this subject. It’s not only one person feeling like that but many so there’s a correlation between your post and their reaction. You don’t fault Asra or Muriel or Julian or even the people of Vesuvia but dressed it up as Nadia’s fault. This might not have been your intention but a lot of us is getting this message in between the lines. I would advise trying to see from their perspective if you can’t make sense why many are making the same points instead of getting it misconstrued but I’m glad you can see how your first post might’ve come across.

This fandom has a long history with racism and sexism when it comes to Nadia. You can’t fault people for being on guard. Especially with your examples of why you’re confused Nadia is not treated worse because of her past actions being followed by how Lucio suffered but is hated (given you have stated you think he deserves much worse). Can you really not see how putting those two right next to each other will give people a bad taste in their mouths? Comparing the treatment of a white man who committed atrocious actions that literally caused the plague and mostly attributed to where he ended up and a whole lot more against a POC woman whose passivity and pride makes you think should be treated worse? Context matters when you’re making these type of points. You could arguably make the same points without using the comparison you chose and it would probably have gone down smoother.

And yes I have read your comments :)

Ok this is just a something I've been thinking about since I joined the fandom (sorry if this gets kinda ranty).

Why does everyone in The Arcana forgive Nadia immediately? Not the fandom but the characters themselves. Like Asra and her are friends, Muriel gets along with her pretty easily, Portia liked her since the beginning, and Julian seems to respect her.

When she was and still is the Countess. The Countess that just stood by has Lucio ran the country into the ground? The Countess who had the power to at least challenge Lucio's demands. The Countess who could've done what civilians wish they could do.

Also she is immensely spoiled. In her tale there's one piece of dialogue that outright said she just MARRIED Lucio because she saw him as a way out of her old life. Let me repeat she married a person and became Countess of a country, just so she could run away.

Also for anyone who justifies this...how? It's clear that her parents have nothing against their child exploring the world. Example A: Nahara. Nahara is a warrior, who travels the world to be a better warrior, and her parents don't seem to have any problem with this. Actually they support her.

And sure, it is hinted at that her parents were overprotective and her sister teased her, but as level headed as Nadia is she could have just talked to them about all of this. Not just up and leave via getting married to someone while drunk. And her getting so drunk that she just married someone without a thought, does prove somewhat that her parents weren't as crazy as she thinks they are about being protective over her.

She just did so many things, that so many people could say are wrong without anyone in her world caring.

Yes she did fall into a coma for 3 years and had memory problems but before? When she was all there seeing how Lucio ran the country and how the coutiers behaved. She couldn't have done anything? We all know she is smart and picks up on things very quickly, so what happened?

Also, about the coma thing, Lucio went without contact to anyone while being able to see everyone for 3 years, has a goat, with the only people talking to him being literal demons. With all of that he still gets treated badly (that he 100% deserves and in my opinion should have been treat a lot worst)

But Nadia? Gets a free past.

If you have anything to say to add to this or things that debunk this go ahead. This has just bugged me since the beginning.

She does take pride in her status, her hard work and in her efforts to rebuild Vesuvia. Which is not so surprising seeing her background as royalty. Nadia can be prideful but her pride has never lashed out in a way that made someone else miserable or caused Vesuvia to rot which is a great contrast to the way Lucio would handle situations where his pride or ego is on the line. I think that’s the clear distinction why people are much respectful when it comes to the topic of Nadia’s pride.

OP she was trying even before she went to a coma. She was working with Julian to repair the aqueducts along with other projects. I presume she was working with others when she took the reins as Lucio’s health degraded. It was said in her route during Julian’s trial. She had forgotten but the people hadn’t. They knew she was trying to help but was cut short.

Few of the routes touch upon how the people of the Flooded District are not amenable to the rule of the Palace so by association Nadia (they had kept Julian’s presence who was basically a fugitive with a bounty on his head a secret as they detested the Palace and what it stood for). They probably don’t voice these opinions as you know the Count had a track record and Nadia is yet to prove herself in their eyes in the beginning of the game. The resistance was there, just kept behind closed doors. I think she was starting to earn their respect during the trials when she made it so that everyone had a say and built it up when they realise she’s actually making their home better and safer by resuming works on the aqueducts.

I think a lot of your gripe stems from the decisions the devs made and not Nadia herself as you complain about how other characters see her and not how she actually presents herself? So perhaps your problems do not lie with Nadia but elsewhere.

I've been in this fandom for quite some time and not once have I engaged with posts of this nature. I suppose it's the upcoming new year that's putting me in a retrospective mood and has me wanting to put my 2 cents in.

I am aware that some of my points have already been addressed through the comments and reblogs but for the sake of structure and this being a direct reply to your post OP, I’ll include them here if you don’t mind. All of the points I’m about to make are my opinions so feel free to disagree or disregard them - just thought I’d give a different perspective coming from Nadia’s corner.

Character Relationships and ruling of Vesuvia during the plague

To preface this, these observations are formed from the impressions the game left me with through the routes, heart hunter interactions and the tales. Each route mainly focuses on the development of the LI and their relationship with the MC which is understandable as it is a dating game but the game all in all only gives us tiny little glimpses of the dynamics each character has with another from the segments mentioned above.

Her birthday tale tells us that she was close friends with Asra and Julian during the plague era. So when the game starts even with them losing their memories I thought a sense of friendly familiarity might’ve stayed even if they forgot the past so that might explain why they hesitated on jumping the gun (so to speak) and pointing their finger at the Countess for the many failings of Vesuvia which is mainly caused by her ex-husband (in my opinion, neither Asra, Julian, Muriel or Portia seem to be the type of people to be aggressively confrontational).

I think Muriel just gets along with Nadia as she’s reserved and calm - not pushing him to talk much. Adding in Asra’s trust and vouching for her, are probably some of the reasons why Muriel feels okay to be around her. As for Julian, I think he was very aware of the hierarchy at play in every interaction he had with Nadia. She showed him mercy and gave him essentially free will of his decisions when it came to trying to meet the Hanged Man - something of a contrast of the treatment he received from the previous Count i.e. feeding him a plague beetle as motivation to find the cure. For Portia, she can only go off to her own experience as she wasn’t present in the events during the plague and I think she’s more inclined to believe her own experience with Nadia which has been mostly positive than believe what she’s heard from the grapevine.

Every one of them with the exception of Portia knew how Lucio was. I think Asra even back then could sense how much her marriage isolated/trapped her and stopped her from showing her true potential with Lucio disregarding her plans and ideas on how to better Vesuvia because here she was, capable and ready without his help (he actually says something along these lines in her route).

And that’s another thing, Nadia is not responsible or a reflection of Lucio and his bad deeds and I think all of them understood that. Because in the end, Lucio had the power. His court backed him up as most of their agenda aligned with his so if one was really to look at it - Nadia can berate Lucio all she wants for a better Vesuvia but the decision was always his to make. He filled his court with literal demons so can you really hold Nadia responsible to the extent you are? Which one of the courtiers would take Nadia’s side in an effort to make the Count see reason? None. None because doing that would be sabotaging their own agendas. She was one voice against many.

She already felt ignored by her family. She thought going to Vesuvia would free her from that but the moment she showed capability, Lucio shut her down. It was a repeating pattern she kept being trapped by, I think she felt useless and just stopped trying because she always knew the outcome.

Nadia is not blameless, even she outright says that. Her passivity contributed to Vesuvia declining, she takes responsibility for that and is trying to make up for it not because of public opinion but because it is the right thing to do.

Marriage

I think it might be your accusatory tone and your repetition that makes it seem it’s Nadia’s worst offence in this part that’s bugging a lot of people here OP…

Nadia did marry Lucio to start anew, yes. They were both drunk and I doubt a sober Nadia would make the same decision. Drawing from my own experience, alcohol can make you and the decisions you make very single-minded and short-sighted. She’s not the first or the last to do a shotgun wedding drunk in hopes of starting afresh so I’m not sure why it’s such a radical concept. They don’t always result in a happy ending but when you’re drunk, you’re not really thinking about that. You’re thinking; yes this is an opportunity that will allow me to restart and become someone.

People are not one dimensional. As responsible and clever as Nadia could be, she has her questionable moments. People change or certain factors can affect their judgment. So it’s rather unfair to hold her to such high esteem considering the circumstances and omit Lucio’s part/reasoning. Lucio also went into this marriage with an agenda in mind so it’s not like he’s giving more than what he’s taking in terms of being in this marriage.

She became a Countess via marriage yes but in terms of royal positions, it’s one of demotion.

Being a Countess came with certain responsibilities of looking after Vesuvia. A job she is well equipped and capable of doing - I won’t be surprised if her education included politics, economy and lessons on what it takes to run a country as she is a princess/royal after all. She wasn’t just planning on running away, she was actually invested in the idea of helping Vesuvia once she sobered up. Lucio just didn’t want to execute her ideas into actions because it proved she didn’t need him to run and improve Vesuvia.

Family ties

I think I saw you mention being bothered by why Nadia’s family didn’t get mad or show negative emotions when they all first reunite. I’ve thought about this ever since I first played the game years ago and here’s what I’ve come up with:

Nadia and her family have all had a royal upbringing and I think it’s been ingrained in all of them since birth that they will always be in the public eye so I doubt they’ll cause a scene in one of the biggest events Vesuvia holds. And remember this is the first time they’ve seen her in 9 years so I doubt they want to corrupt their first reunion by berating Nadia and giving her negative associations of their first reunion as a family.

I think even with her parents, they were simply happy to see Nadia and even though she is their daughter, she is also now the Countess of Vesuvia. One that is hosting an event with thousands in attendance so they’re probably following a royal etiquette of treating her with respect as they would someone of her position and not causing distress for their host with thousands in attendance as a witness.

Nadia and MC are also busy chasing down the Devil so there wasn’t much time to talk let alone her parents or siblings taking a moment to convey their fury or disappointment in her past actions. As I said, they’re also under the watch of hundreds if not thousands of people and every time we interact with them we’re surrounded by people, so I doubt they’ll air out their disappointment right there and then. I think they simply just opted to wait till the party ended and have the conversation behind closed doors (we wouldn’t know of any conversation between Nadia and her family as the game time skipped to a time, they all seem to be bonding already).

I would like to see the reconciliation between her, her family and her friends but the devs have chosen the happily ever after time skip band aid in this case.

This has been longer than expected, longer if I didn’t cut it down. But I hope this has at least given a different perspective to contemplate. Sorry about the rambling and as I’ve said in the beginning, these are just my opinions. If anyone would like to have a conversation about anything I’ve said, my asks is open.

Since you needed festive prompts, how about MC overhearing Nadia's Christmas wish (whatever it may be, you can decide of course) and decides to fulfill that no matter what it takes. I was thinking that Nadi's wish would be something that she considers is impossible but to us MC, they're gonna make that wish possible just for Nadi.

Red Stardust

Nadia casts an imposing yet lonely figure as she leans out of the palace veranda, watching her red realm shift against the thick fog that bathes her kingdom crimson. The Devil’s realm had mimicked the palace under her rule.

The familiarity of her home, albeit being a visage from her former life, brings her little to no comfort during days like these. Days where her loneliness dragged her shoulders down while the ‘what ifs’ threatens to drown out any semblance of comfort in the reasons that led them here.

These are the moments she misses her familiar the most. Misses the solace Chandra offers in her knowing gaze and soothing coos. Chandra had been her one constant before MC had come along.

Before she became the devil, the three of them frequently spent days and nights in each other’s company, lounging in her chambers or contemplation tower suspended in blissful tranquility. Her heart had felt so full then. Her memory paints those images with rose-tinted warmth, resulting in wistful sighs each time she finds the time to reminisce.

Nostalgia and romance had always had a nasty habit of dancing over the imprint of your footsteps in the ruins of the palace you left. So delicate but yet oh so potent. It is a painful reminder that her humanity still bleeds and aches for something that is permanently lost.

MC knows how Nadia’s heart aches for her familiar, taloned hands always reaching for a feathered beak scratch only to find nothing but air. Like a phantom limb whose absence always demanded to be felt even in your most lucid moments.

So MC sets out to do the impossible. Bringing Chandra to roost within the Devil’s realm would appease the storm of loneliness that plagues their Nadia. But bodies of the living were never meant to be granted permanence in any of the Arcana’s realm though MC would be damned if they didn’t at least try. It took some convincing for the High Priestess’ approval and a herculean effort and magic on MC’s part before Chandra was granted a safe passage to the Devil’s realm.

MC is anxiously waiting by the gates when they hear a sharp shriek followed by sharp talons gently perching on their shoulders.

“Hello, Chandra! How fares the prettiest bird in all the realms” excitement and adoration creates an irresistible pull on MC to scratch Chandra’s beak.

Chandra happily hoots as an answer and puffs her chest with pride at the compliment. She nibbles on MC’s ear as they make their way back into the Devil’s Palace. There’s a pep in MC’s step as they hurriedly make their way back to their lover.

“Nadia” MC half yells across the throne room, barely masking their giddiness to tell their lover the good news.

“Ah there you are, my dear. I was just about to-” Nadia stops in her tracks, rendered speechless by the sight of her old companion.

“Chandra?” she whispers, afraid to break the illusion.

Chandra’s sharp shriek breaks the trance that turned Nadia to stone. Nadia takes three long strides and scoops Chandra into her arms. There’s tears in her eyes as she reunites with her oldest friend, barely registering the rapid flickering of her ears in her overwhelming excitement.

“Just how” her question trails off as she gazes at MC with amazement and disbelief, tears staining her cheeks.

“It must be nearing Winter Solstice now… and I thought I’d give you something to celebrate the occasion” MC can feel their cheeks heating up, a red hue creeping up their neck.

“I know opening the gate is taking longer than expected and I’ve noticed it’s easier to bring something in than to get something out of your realm so I figured…” MC fingers trails up Chandra’s wings, scratching soothing patterns as the owl leans into their touch.

“I can bring Chandra to keep you company as I work on breaking the chains that hold us here” MC’s free hand caresses Nadia’s cheek as the devil mimics Chandra, spellbound to the touch of her lover.

“I won't fail you”
