Finished the pop-up card. Really a great learning experience of troubleshooting. Lots of redos and learning from mistakes. Things have to close and open smoothly. It is really about the build. I had other ideas but I could not figure out how to make it work. I really wish I had done this with my graphic design students as a lesson. They would have enjoyed it. I will save it for a future lesson. I think enjoy projects like this because of my experience as an illustrator and graphic designer. I could spend hours talking to production people about how they turned out my design work into finals. Fun times and I hope to do more. Happy art making! Finished the pop-up card. Here are a couple of cut paper reliefs from Hans Christian Andersen. Thumbelina and Ugly Duckling. I continue to look and learn at all the applications for cut paper it is so versatile. I saw some beautiful pop up books by @upwithpaper they have an imprint for books. I never owned pop-up books when I was a kid. I did make lots of paper dolls and things, and this gives me a similar satisfaction in making the work. But it does not feel like work. Things are moving along. This cut paper illustration was pretty much all traditional except the text. I tried to cut the letter but the size was too small. Working at actual size makes the letters about 3/4 in or smaller. I got a used starter DSLR camera because I wanted better resolution. Shot using a Nikon D3400 with a 55 mm kit lens. Swipe to see shots using different white balance settings. Last swipe is my attempt to make budget gel filters for my desk lamp using inkjet transparency and inkjet printer. I think I will try using them on my next project when I shoot. I feel like I was doing surgery with my tools. Trying cut paper illustration. The professor recommended a test on it. I liked it! I am using just 110# cover stock, Copic brush pen. Would like a thicker stock. I have some Japanese handmade papers coming. Working slowly but surely on a new sketchbook line that has my pen and ink drawings of flowers on the cover. The cover is a matte finish you can color in with markers to decorate. I also have one with daisies on the cover. Any flowers that are favs for suggestions? Have a week before the next quarter starts. So much to do so little time. . . I got my promo cards in the mail. For me I order fewer and can always reorder more. I can get a bit overwhelmed thinking about sending hundreds. I tried ordered on matte paper. I normally do glossy. Speed drawing of a Victorian room. I had not realized had been drawing 7 days a week for 5 months and my body was not agreeing with it. Art teachers generally do not sit for long periods of time. I took a few days to rest. I was feeling a bit guilty not drawing. I went back to work on my visual development lessons. I picked the Victorian era because they loved patterns. Reworked my bee patterns with color. Will work on the inside pages and get the files ready to submit for samples from the printer. Did some pen and ink shapes and got back to some basics with some 2D design in Photoshop. I made one of the squares a tile by hand. Makes me appreciate Photoshop and Illustrator more.
