I wish I had been taught art like this! I wish I had been taught poetry like this! For me, it was all very directions based and getting a specific end result based.

The little fourth grader in me is still frustrated that she got a C for doing nearly exactly what the directions said! I was supposed to draw my dresser drawers! I was very meticulous about drawing it exactly like my dresser at home! But I would have been better off if the teacher had just said a dresser with socks dangling out of it because apparently that was the actual point! Was part of the directions the socks? Yes! But she said my drawers and my drawers were always nicely closed!

And part of the reason I thought I'd be terrible at songwriting until I was almost 17 was because I'd hated writing poetry for English assignments. Turns out it's way more fun if you don't have to focus on using exact rhymes!

Anyway, I know you have to learn the rules before you can learn how to break them, but it seems like when we're taught the rules, we rarely get to the breaking them point? There's no easy answer for "how, then, should it be taught?" It's not an exact science. But then again, it's art, not a science anyway.

Alternatively, if you have a good two minute song, don't make it a bad eighteen or six or even four minute song. People will hate you and never play it because they know it should have ended multiple minutes ago and yet somehow the corpse is still being dragged through the streets.

I'm not saying writers should be lazy.

I'm not saying they should write for tiktok especially since tiktok has insisted on "consensually" not paying royalties to them.

But a man who was pivotal to my knowledge of the inner workings of the music industry once said that it's better to leave the audience wishing there was more than wishing it would end, and I can't disagree with him. Long or short, make it the length that it's supposed to be.

Stop! Releasing 2 minute songs!! Idc about TikTok!!! If it's a banger it needs to be at least 3:30.

I had this extremely vivid dream last night about how I accidentally took in five kittens.

But how could I not? There were way more than that, and I couldn't just leave them there helpless! I figured I'd be able to find a home for most of them later, but something needed to be done. I grabbed two tiny kittens and one adolescent-ish kitten, and two more slightly less tiny kittens chose me of their own volition and latched onto my pant legs.

Somebody helped me out I guess and gave me special milk to feed them, so I started by bottle feeding the tiny ones. I had some idea of where the other two were, but I lost track of the larger one.

After I finished feeding the tiny kittens, my brother came up to me, presumably to say something, and. FLUNG THE KITTIES?!??!?! He'll be horrified when I tell him irl And I ran over to get them and comfort them and they were clearly terrified but didn't lash out at me too much when I held them again and I yelled at/told off my brother. But then I was like "oh no, where's cat #5 been??" and I finally found him but he was very salty about how I "forgot" about him.

Of course, that meant he was so salty he didn't want to be caught to be fed and was trying to bite me, so I was grabbing and grabbing at him with only one hand while holding the tiny kitties in the other hand. Could not grab the nape of his neck to immobilize him for the life of me because well. It's literally trying to herd kittens. I guess he sulkily settled down enough for him to come back with me. I made my brother apologize to the cats when we returned. The other pair of kittens must have been fairly content during all this.

And then I woke up still reeling from this very vivid dream feeling unusually well rested in spite of the events of the dream being rather tiring.
