Hello! You've mentioned before that you worked at a flower shop / florist and I was wondering about a few things regarding the job for my fic AU ^^? 1.) How many workers would you say would work in a small shop? 2.) Are there any specific positions (eg: designers, cashier/sales person) in the shop and what do they do? Thank you so much for the help TT!
hi there, thanks so much for asking! I can only speak from my limited experience- flower shops come in many sizes, so I’ll just tell you about the one where I worked.
- the place I worked for was a florist and nursery, so they had two primary managers- one who looked after the greenhouses, and one who was in charge of the store, floral arrangements, all that. (employee count: 2)
- then there were a few people who mainly worked outside/in the greenhouses, who mostly planted things, watered, and cleaned the greenhouses. I helped them sometimes- it was nice work, but pretty physically intense, mostly outside and in the sun. (employee count: 5)
-a few people worked in the back room (that was me!) we opened up wholesale shipments of flowers, cleaned up the main workroom (which was constantly accumulating plant matter on the floors), boxed up and organized outgoing deliveries, and ran whatever errands the florists needed (getting vases out of storage, fetching certain flowers, etc). occasionally they’d trust one of us (ie me) with some basic arranging-related work- gluing floral foam into containers, sticking greenery in vases, that kind of thing. (employee count: 8)
-we had 1 driver whose main job it was to deliver arrangements wherever they had to go. sometimes they’d pull someone else to help him out. (employee count: 9)
-we had about 4 or 5 full-time florists, whose job it was to actually do the arranging. they were the ones who’d sit down with customers to discuss orders (like, designing the flowers for a wedding, helping someone pick out flowers for a prom corsage, etc). they also were the ones who took orders- they all had phones and computers at their workstations and would put new orders into the system. (employee count: 13)
-lastly, we had about two cashiers who both worked part-time. aside from busy weekends we usually only had one in at a time. (employee count: 15)
last year i was eating in a fancy, large restaurant when i began to hear a rumble and the distant sound of people chanting ‘potassium, potassium’ and suddenly hundreds of people dressed as bananas flood this restaurant chanting potassium over and over and we were trapped there for a very long time because the bananas would not leave and they were everywhere
I was walking through the toy aisle at Target when I found this thing and had a VIOLENT AND IMMEDIATE FLASHBACK to when JP first came out and they had a bunch of REALLY COOL T Rex toys that I would have sold one of my scrawny small-child limbs for but my mother wouldn’t get me one because they were “too violent and also ate people” :(
