A recent commission: an homage to the Folio Society's edition of Jane Eyre - but tiny - for @fermentation_witch !
This was so much fun to work on! Sorry for the potato quality of the photos~
Most of the pages are blank, as the text is just too long to fit legibly into a mini book, but I included the title page, a favourite quotation, and an illustration from the original second edition.
India and acrylic ink on silk cover, hand bound pages, marbled end papers, midnight blue bookmark and pendant ribbon with antiqued brass findings. Spring 2021.

At last, I have achieved hat mastery. Hatstery? Cat-hat-strophe?? Nay -- witchcraft!
After a lot of dead-end attempts and experiments to get exactly what I wanted, I managed to produce a light, densely-felted wool hat with a bendy wire brim. The inside is lined with silk web for a little visual variety.
Wool is naturally water-resistant - I tested this hat by filling it up like a bucket. Now it heads off to the forests of Sweden to be field-tested by a field-working eco-witch.
***This project was a gift, but I'd be keen to make more as commissions if anyone is interested.***👒🎩🧢

A tarot cloth for a friend! Tried to match it to the aesthetic of their deck - love me a good Celtic knot motif. Looking through this deck also reminded me of my half-plotted design for a wilderness-camping themed oracle deck . . . so many projects, so little time . . . 🃏 The cloth itself is a sandwich of three layers of upcycled cotton sheet for thickness to protect the deck, with the final patterned layer on top. 💫🔮🃏 New and reused cotton, suede, and metal, winter 2022.🃏

Folding, folding, folding . . . 📖📚 Some pendant-sized books in progress. Each little rectangle is cut, and then folded to form a folio, and nested with 3 others to form a signature. The signatures are sewn together and glued along the spine to create a book block. It's a time-consuming process, but when it's done, I can get on with the fun part: making the covers. 📚📖

Just a very tiny copy of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid 🌊 🧜🏻‍♀️
There's something very satisfying about typesetting these little guys. What should I do next? Texts of up to about 6000 words work well for this format, and so far I have set a few fairy tales and long poems.
Not currently for sale in my shop, but . . . you can always ask ;)
Paper and cotton, spring 2021.

Tiny wee books! Nature themed ~
I try to use as many recycled, reused, and reclaimed materials as possible in my work. Pieces of fabric and card that are too small or the wrong shape for anything else make their way into my bookbinding stash.
Do I believe that individual recycling efforts are as valuable to the protection and healing of the natural world as systemic change at the corporate and governmental level? {big sigh} Nope. But I do find a measure of satisfaction in reducing my own footprint, even just a little bit.
Some of these are still available in my shop, some are available on request.

A miniature book made by Charlotte Brontë at age 13, one of more than two dozen she created. It recently surfaced after being considered lost for more than a century.

*Deeply tedious means a few things
1) Math. Nothing complicated, just . . . repetitive.
2) My first attempt was using Excel. Yes, I know. What was I thinking? After spending days trying to set it up so that my margins were perfect, etc, then discovering that no matter how precise my measurements were in fractions of inches in the document, Excel does NOT print WYSIWYG. It just doesn't.
3) I then spend further days trying to replicate this structure in Publisher, with better success. What you see in the background of these photos is my page layout (one of many, many misprints). All double-sided pages fit nicely onto one 8 1/2 by 11" sheet of paper.
4) Page-setting a new document takes about and hour, to get just 6000 words in at 4-pt font. So yeah, I am definitely looking for a more efficient method, but this will do for now.

I did it, I figured out how to typeset my miniature binding signatures. This is sonnets 1 - 52, by ol' Willie the Bard himself.
It's a deeply tedious process*, I can't wait to do more.
I don't mean that facetiously; now that I have a structure, I'm stoked to make a bunch of these and put them up in my shop.

Good news folks, I decided to check how cute mini bookplates would be and the verdict is: pretty heckin' cute.
If you would like to personalize one of my mini book pendants, request a bookplate when you order through my Etsy shop.
(Note that I will not be able to write names longer than 10 characters, but I can leave the bookplate blank if you would like to do this part yourself)

I haven't yet figured out yet how to typeset one of these so that I could have, say, the full text of The Tempest on a ribbon round my neck, but that day will come . . .

What tiny secrets, poems, or spells would you keep closest to your ears? I’ve put up some of my creations for sale in my new Etsy shop - these hand-bound miniature books feature 80 pages each (although you may need a toothpick to turn them). Write your own secret message or leave them open to possibility. Bound in reclaimed silk jacquard with beautiful thread shimmer, each little book is unique.
Note: these tiny books are delicate in the same ways as full-grown books. They do not like walks in the rain, long baths, or scuba diving. The binding will bend and wear if the book is forced wide open. Just as flammable as the rest of your book collection. Do not put them in your mouth. NOT intended as toys or for young children. For decorative use only. You know the drill.
