TRIGGER WARNING: mentions of violence against native people, genocide, colonialism, residential schools
it has recently come to our attention that our plot has drawn some rather stark similarities to atrocities committed against native american people, including but not limited to colonization of native land and genocide of native people. this plot was inspired by a short story i had written in college, and we did not do the proper research before publishing the plot complete with its triggering mentions of violence and comparisons of the siren race to native people. the original plot contained an aspect of sirens being forcefully killed on a land that they once owned, and we truly did not make the connection that it echoes a very real issue that native people had faced not just in the past but now. we were also alerted that our original tagline for the group, "shallow grave", cements this and references shallow graves of children that were found on indigenous residential schools in canada. we had originally set this roleplay in canada based on the weather patterns there - we thought it would be a perfect setting for a stormy dark port town. we truly did not make the connection that many others did, and for that, we are incredibly sorry.
we have since talked with most everyone who has come forward and brought their complaints against our group, and while we originally decided to revamp, our attempts to remedy it have been fruitless. as a result we will be shutting down the group tonight. no more apps will be accepted, and no more promos will be rolled out. this situation has really opened our eyes and if we are to start any future groups we will make sure to do our research before setting anything potentially hateful into motion. we recognize how this imagery was insensitive and upsetting to many, and we take full responsibility for any problems and upset it has caused within the roleplay community. the plot has since been deleted from the page and can no longer be accessed.
we will be around on the main for a few more days cleaning things up, so if anyone wishes to start a dialogue, we will be available. to our current members, we are upset that it had to end this way, but hope to bring you better, more informed content in the future.
