Reflection Journal 1 for English 2 1/10/17

I fell in love once. the kind where time slows down and the two of you are in a bubble, I knew he was the one I would have kids for but I wasn’t ready and I wanted to work on myself first so I told him no. It was the hardest most regretful decision I’ve ever made and probably ever will. At least I felt it, some people don’t even get that. They scoff and say it doesn’t exist. It exists and when you find it you’ll know you have a soul.

The most honesty I see these days comes from art. Emotion is honest and art comes from emotion. I go to theaters to see movies when they first come out for the audience. That moment when all the people react in unison. That’s real.

Art pacifies my soul, school satisfies my hunger for knowledge and self discovery. When I’m feeling lost I go driving in the mountains, Not sure if I’m running away or to something.

When I’m not running or going to school or engaged with art I feel the slow uncomfortable passage of time. Years ago when I did not feel time I would meditate, that does not come easily now so I distract myself to keep from being sad. Sometimes I dress up to hide my sadness.

I don’t like masks, I know we all wear them now and then for social reasons Some of us more than others. They say give a man a mask and he’ll tell you the truth. That would be ironic.

I try to stay positive. There is so much good in my life. I believe destiny is cyclical, you just have to be ready to jump at the right time.

Heart in my pocket

I carry this little heart in my pocket

It's made from jade and has no sharp edges

When life gets hard and I start feeling stuck

I feel for it to remind me of the future.

I made myself a promise about the future

I promised that you were in it.

So when I think about giving up and taking the easy road

I remember that it's not the road to you.

The road I'll have to take is invisible, shrouded in fog

If I told anyone about it none would believe me.

But the heart in my pocket reminds me

the road is revealed only with large amounts of faith,

only a little at a time.

When life sucker punches me

and I start to think about all the “good” advice people give

about how the world “really” is and try not to believe it

I feel for the little jade heart in my pocket.

It reminds me why I'm here, alone,

striving to something when I should be practical.

It reminds me that my heart is for you.

It will not let me settle for less.
