netflix's horrible reputation re: wlw characters & relationships has me terrified about TOG 2, tbh. i truly believe we'll see one of these 2 options:
andromaquynh is canonically established as having a romantic past - because of this, netflix essentially "buries" it with next to zero promo (thus guaranteeing that it flops) and blames it on the diversity of the cast/director
OR
andromaquynh ISN'T canonically established as romantic in any way; Uma's character was invented to take focus away from andy and quynh's tense dynamic and history. when netflix does finally promote the film (and it still won't be anywhere near close to the campaign they did for Extraction 2), they'll focus on Uma and Charlize almost exclusively. sapphic fans who are rightfully angry about the erasure of andy/quynh are condescendingly told to "calm down" because it isn't a direct adaptation of the 2nd comic, and the focus of the entire film is the ramped-up action not romance.
i hope i'm wrong, but netflix is evil and predictable and i've seen all of this happen before.
Hey nonny,
I share the exact same feelings. On the one hand Netflix is the only streaming services i trust with lgbtq representation, on the other hand I have huge trust issues when I see how they treat LGBTQ people in their major shows.
TOG 2 has a lack of promo and updates anyway, for.... unknown reasons? (If somebody knows more about the complete radio silence, please let me know). I actually think Andys queer love story will be in there, but downplayed, shown only shortly and not mentioned in the promo at all. So I am mostly agreeing on your second point. The promo for Extraction 2 was HUGE, never saw something like that for a Netflix movie like that before, here in Germany. And Charlize is nearly equally famous but Netflix treats TOG like a second class human being. Which is honestly so weird?!
Imo they will drop TOG 2 without any promo, blame it on WGA and SAG Aftra and cancel the whole thing. For some reasons they were never really fond of TOG-movie anyway, and thats the perfect opportunity for them to get rid of it. I would just love to know WHY they can not stand TOG

Anyone else on the planet or this timeline wondering what or who they need to sell, to get more old guard comic stories or the freaking movie sequel?
I can appreciate Booker was drunk longer, Quynh/Noriko was trapped longer, Joe and Nicky have loved longer and Andromache has lived longer but for this mere mortal this wait is something else.
2024 don’t let me down

#holy shit holy shit holy shit#EVRRYONE READ THIS RIGHT NOW#its so good oh my god#if the sequel is even half as good as this well be so so lucky#holy shit#save forever (x)
I honestly wasn't sure how many people have even read it because the fandom is a ghost town atm, so i just want to say that your tags absolutely made my month. <3
I wrote my own fanscript of THE OLD GUARD 2
The screenshots above are samples...
... I got tired of waiting for Netflix, so:
I tried to incorporate the following:
TOG 2 casting (Uma and Henry) plus some locations where the movie was shot last year (as seen in set photos, etc)
my own personal "wish list" of details, but hopefully in a way that makes sense within the larger story (tried to avoid making it just a self-indulgent, shoe-horned laundry list lol) and in a way that it could conceivably be greenlit by the industry -- ie: I'd have loved to write 2 whole hours of them just hanging out playing board games and reminiscing, but that would never be made into a movie.
a few ideas inspired by some of my favorite meta posts/fan art/etc (some of y'all are SO much more creative than the people actually making these movies, istg) -- try to spot them all!
favorite "action" scenes from the Force Multiplied comic, despite this script not being a true adaptation (it just borrows the broader strokes)
the decision not to make Quynh a villain; she's arguably got a hero arc in this, tbh (the top 1% and their use of institutional/systemic oppression to exploit and control the masses is the real villain, actually!)
no new immortals or explanation of immortality, tyvm; I tried to focus on the Family of Six and their shared history as much as possible.

Andy as one of the early aviation pioneers.
For @laviejaguardia’s prompt “Flying”.
Thank you for the excellent prompt, Lina! I knew right away that this had to be Andy. Fearless and a little reckless and ready for adventure. I hope this brings you some joy! 💗

what I like about andromaquynh is their reunion and it being complex and hard but like ultimately happy and I'm so scared the sequel won't be able to deliver on that

a lot of fans didn't like the second season of Good Omens and some of them came up with unhinged fan theories about it
a lot of fans didn't like the second season of Our Flag Means Death and some of them came up with spectacularly unhinged fan theories about it
fandom history johnlock blah blah blah
the Old Guard sequel will, supposedly, be released at some point, and early signs are not great
And so I ask you:
If the second Old Guard movie ends up sucking, or just being a huge fucking letdown, will we let it slide, or will we take our place among the lunatic fandoms of legend? Surely TOG fans are creative enough, and batshit enough, to argue about something more outlandish than racism and misogyny.
It's not really something we can plan in advance, because it will all depend on the specific details of how the movie disappoints us. But we can at least start considering it. Start telling yourself now: Greg Rucka is a mad genius playing 5-dimesional chess. Anything that seems out of character or not in keeping with the themes you liked from the first movie is actually a clever stratagem in support of your favorite headcanon. The second movie is only a setup for the third movie anyway. It all makes sense, as evidenced by the fact that it requires an essay of at least 10,000 words to explain it.
Start working those conspiracy muscles now! Strengthen your legs so you can leap to the wildest possible conclusions! We can do this. I believe in us.

I’ve got you.
For the prompt “protective”.
Does this still count as a doodle? Somehow it managed to break containment and ran away with me, but the prompt just hit a nerve, and I wanted to try doing it justice.
Thank you @lazaefair for the lovely prompt! 💕

Some sleepyheads for @theartguard lottery event!
We were challenged by a randomly selected pose, character (for me it was Andy) and color palette. I maybe cheated a bit by also adding Joe and Nicky, but once I started, I couldn't stop myself 😂
Make sure to also check out the other amazing artists who did the event!

there's something very amatonormative about the way booker sees the world
he tells nicky and joe that they had always had each other, whilst andy and booker only had themselves and their grief and that's uncharitable and an amatonormative way of looking at the world.
yes, nicky and joe are in a long-term romantic and sexual relationship that is very solid, but that doesn't negate like... their platonic relationships?
when booker says that, it is so damn self-absorbed and naive and amatonormative
does he not realise that nicky and joe have always been with him too? that nicky and joe lost quynh too? sure, andy lost her lover but look at nicky and joe when they tell nile about quynh - they loved her and her loss deeply fucked them up.
booker's betrayal is so, so selfish and amatonormative. and sure he had his reasons - grief, alcoholism, depression - but those are not excuses, but explanations. I'm on the side of 'booker is a character and what he did was understandable and he clearly needs therapy' but 'holy SHIT let nicky and joe feel BETRAYED because they were and shouldn't have to moderate their reaction to protect ickle booker' - like the amount of work booker needs to put in for a proper reconciliation is astronomical.
anyway I digress. by saying 'you always had each other', booker is being an amatonormative little shit who downplays both nicky and joe's platonic relationships, I love and care for the other immortals, including him, but also that they have suffered loss too - their families, and how their first meeting wasn't exactly serendipitous.
anyway! booker's framing of nicky and joe is deeply fucked up, stemming from amatonormativity and booker's worldview of competing grief. like booker.... grief sucks but it's not a competition, y'know?
anyway! this is a Reading TM of booker's worldview vis a via nicky and joe that I've felt strongly about because booker just like. is so self-absorbed in his grief that he cannot recognise and appreciate what he has, nor can he recognise that nicky and joe's lives haven't been sunshine and rainbows because they're in a romantic relationship.
like bro. they love you. go to therapy.
