Swipe to see the steps to creating this hyperrealism study I did tonight! Took me around 5 hours. Full length video is up on twitch, but I’ll be uploading a sped up version on YouTube which will only be a couple mins:) • • • • #art #illustration #Drawing #Draw #Picture #Artist #Sketch #digitalpainting #photoshop #wacom #Art #digitalart #illustration #Creative #artsy #artoftheday #digitalartist #sketching #conceptart #artwork #artistic #doodle #doodles #hyperrealism #realism #artrealism #eyeart #realisticart #eyestudy #anatomyart https://www.instagram.com/p/B0cA96QFLza/?igshid=12zgxtd20nfq6

Just a lil study #wip I haven’t posted in so long and it sad bc the reason is I haven’t been doing much art at all. Trying to get back into the swing of digital painting while I’m feeling inspired by nature and other things at home, where life seems more calm. • • • • #art #illustration #Drawing #Draw #Picture #Artist #Sketch #digitalpainting #photoshop #wacom #Art #digitalart #illustration #Creative #artsy #artoftheday #digitalartist #sketching #conceptart #artwork #artistic #doodle #doodles #nature #artstudy #workinprogess #lifestudy #fromlife https://www.instagram.com/p/B0ZSEaVlCGC/?igshid=1dnbmqqpr64ew

XB2001 - VR Project: The Rooms
(2/#)
The Projector Room
I started doing some visual brainstorming by creating a board on Pinterest and getting up images of vintage projectors, theatres and auditoriums.
Tumblr media
I then went onto visualisation of my room and how I wanted it to look - I did a basic layout showing room sizing and positioning of items using SketchUp, and did some extremely basic sketching with some notes to try and help get my thoughts together.
Tumblr media
I started sketching out my design for the projector, as this would be the focal point of the room:
Tumblr media
I was planning to cover up part of the projector with a large cloth to make modelling easier for myself so that I would be able to spend more time on other assets within the room, however I ended  up not adding it in as it was proving to be slightly more difficult than I first thought.
This is how it turned out:

XB2001 - VR Project: The Rooms
(1/#)
For this brief, I have been put into group with four other classmates where we must create a VR Game or Experience in Unreal Engine 4 with each of us being holding different roles: Designer – Mechanics and Level Design Artist – Any key props or assets needed for the experience Front End – Trailer, Gameplay recording, screenshots & resourcing any needed content (sounds)
For this project, I took on the role of one of the group Artists.
We began by sitting down and splurging ideas out to one another whilst writing down the half decent ones.
These are some of the ideas we generated:
Conveyor belt of potions giving different ‘trips’
Train shooty experience
Escape room
Grow big and small
Basketball
Coloursssssss
Wave defence
Synthwave/vaporwave/80s – beat saber but cooler (drum/hand dance mat synth pad/ colour picker with sword)
Paintball thing
Elevator – new scene every time the elevator doors open – pad at the side to pick places from – elevator music. Each floor based off different genre of music – dub/metal/piano/classic/heroic
Different levels are based around certain games – tetris etc.
Hallway doors – find keys – dioramas inside – different doors, different sounds coming from doors – people walk between doors scooby doo style
The idea we went with was an modified version of the elevator idea - the player would be in a hallway with many doors, with each of the doors leading to a different room that the artists would create.
We hoped to have 6 rooms by the end, but with 3 being a minimum (2 for each of the 3 artists).
Our project would be more of an interactive experience than a game, so to speak. The player would be able to walk only just into the room, being blocked off by some form of barrier - whether it be a fence or a bar - so that the player could only interact with the immediate surroundings but still view he rest of the room.
For my room ideas, I had the following:
A vintage (1950s?) styled theatre, where the player would only be able to go into the projector room above the theatre, but look down into the auditorium and view the projector screen. My plan for the interactivity would be that the player must switch on the projector to then reveal clues on the projector screen as to where a key to one of the other rooms is. The key would be hidden in amongst piles of film reel cases which the player will be able to pick up and open to search for it.
A futuristic look room similar to the likes of Tron/cyberpunk styles. There would be a huge cube in the middle of the room, elevated above the ground on , floating and slowly spinning while rotated on its corner. The cube would look similar to a 4x4 Rubick’s, with each section glowing a different colour. The player would have to match each of the cube’s sides to have one set of colours using a control board in front of them.

Bit upset I haven’t had the chance to finish this piece yet, that’s why I haven’t uploaded it properly here. I started this right around the time he passed away and spent a lot of time trying to do him justice. I never finished it to a good enough standard for me to feel okay uploading it, but I’ve decided to get it on here for now until I can find the time in between uni and other stuff to finish it. • • • • #art #illustration #Drawing #Draw #Picture #Artist #Sketch #digitalpainting #photoshop #wacom #Art #digitalart #illustration #Creative #artsy #artoftheday #digitalartist #sketching #conceptart #artwork #artistic #doodle #doodles #marvel #stanlee #portrait #celebrityportrait #realism #digitalportrait #stanthemanlee https://www.instagram.com/p/BvLXdCoBaKn/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=10qacvebtn9fb

Lighting for Design
(1/#)
I’m back with a new breif, this time on lighting.
I am to create a block out mansion in UE4 and focus on how I can design lighting within the scene to help guide the player throughout the level.
Firstly, I came up with three pitches to discuss with my lecturer.
These were my ideas:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one chosen was Reminiscence.
I have written down some bullet points of how I would like to execute my research and development and then final product: Mansion research: - Pictures of mansions and rooms - Moods - colour, lights, sunsets etc. - Mansion/house plans - Video research, other game research for lighting Level design: - Paper sketches - Google sketchup block out - Digital top down level plan - Gameplay, brief story etc. (written out in a separate doc for submission) UE4: - Mansion block out - Create lighting Blueprints: - Interact button line trace - Doors - Flashbacks? Bright light and transform to duplicate old level? - Letters to read/pick up - & other
I also took down some notes to keep in mind when desiging my level:
Don’t use symmetrical lighting - lack of engagement and interest Mix it up: walls floor ceiling Variable light intensity, off, blinking Colour evokes emotional response (Hot cold dangerous safe) Showing what’s behind somewhere - curiosity leads to exploration If there are light/door switches, make it clear which they’re for (unless part of a puzzle) Make sure the puzzles stick to the theme of the scene Fireflies? Turns to dark?

Making a Boardgame!
(3/3)
Now that we had everything decided and the gameplay tested, we started working on creating the cards and the board itself.
Here are a few of my contributions to the cards:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, we went for some interesting colour choices and cool designs to follow throughout the visuals of the game.
Because we were actually going to print these, I also did designs for the backs of the hand gesture and the risk cards, which I’ve also added in below:
Tumblr media
For the back of the hand gesture cards (showing the 3 difficulty tier hands).
Tumblr media
And then the back of all of the Risk Cards, with the thumbs up/down.
After getting everything printed, this was the result!
Tumblr media
(the fingers at the bottom are each team’s player pieces!)
If you want to see a really cringy video too, here’s our brief trailer for Patty Cake.. if you can call it that

Making a Boardgame!
(2/3)
After creating a temporary paper version of our Patty Cake boardgame, we playtested it several times ourselves, then got a few of our peers to then playtest it too and read through our rules we’d put together to see if any of it made sense to fresh minds.
Tumblr media
We videod this, took down notes, and asked our peers to review what they’d played and give some feedback on what worked and what didn’t.
This gave us a point to start tidying up our idea and getting a solid plan for how our Patty Cake boardgame would play out.
We threw around a few ideas of how to up the difficulty of the game and make it more interesting, and came to the conclusion of adding Risk Cards and including difficulty between one and three for each hand gesture.
The concept of this Risk Cards would be that by picking one up from the deck, you’d be taking a risk...
Tumblr media
So with this, you would either pick out a good card or a bad card - these would say something along the lines of, “Your team has two chances to complete your Patty Cake sequence correctly” for a good card, or, “You must add two more movements to your sequence this turn” for a bad card, for exmaple.
All whilst we were working on the gameplay and what hand gestures to include etc., myself and the other arty one from our team started designing potential designs for the hand gesture cards.
We very much liked the idea of making everything about hands on the card, and this is what we came up with for our first rough sketch ideas:

Making a Boardgame!
(1/3)
For my second year board game project in UCLan, myself and three of my coursemates grouped up to design and create a boardgame based on an outdated existing game, be it digital or not.  So, after several discussions and discord calls over a few really bad ideas, we decided to make a new and improved boardgame version of......
Patty Cake!
...
Tumblr media
...Don’t worry it actually turned out to be half decent...
We got a few laughs out of it at least.
Our basis for the gameplay would be this:  A four player game consisting of two teams with each team aiming to reach the end of the board with their token before the other. To do this, each team must memorise a continually growing sequence of hand gestures (no obscenety, of course) and perform their patty cake handshake correctly on each go to move up on the board, with it always beginning with the patty cake beginning clap and double high five. On each turn, the team whose go it is must pick up a card from the deck of hand gestures to add another one to their sequence.  If a team recalls their sequence incorrectly, they lose their go and thus their chance of moving up on the board for that go.

Line Trace Interaction
To be able to start using doors and picking up items, I need to have a line trace action to allow the player to interact with objects via a button, in this case the keyboard letter “E”.
Here’s how I did it:
Tumblr media
In the project, go to  Edit>Project Settings This will bring up the above window. Here we can add in a new Input for the keyboard letter “E”.

Here’s a digital painting I did for Mother’s Day this year. I get worried about followers and friends losing interest in me when I open up about the topic of veganism and animal equality, but I feel like it’s a crime not to. There are a lot of things we need to do to help repair this world and to live peacefully together. I really believe that taking the step to learn about where your food comes from, how it is produced and the saddening impact it is having on our planet is the best way to help move ourselves forward as humans and become a more compassionate species. We have a conscience, a sense of morality, and with that we have the power to make decisions that impact everything on earth. You can change the world, by changing what’s on your plate. • • • • #art #illustration #Drawing #Draw #Picture #Artist #Sketch #digitalpainting #photoshop #wacom #Art #digitalart #illustration #Creative #artsy #artoftheday #digitalartist #sketching #conceptart #artwork #artistic #doodle #doodles #veganactivism #animalliberation #animalrights #animals #steak #beef #cows https://www.instagram.com/p/BpXbzMpgjeq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=17cqaadls3ysm
