They said they were unable to provide themselves healthier food due to lack of money, but they willingly brought a k-pop concert ticket, and called it 'healing'. What a wired society.

As I watched the sun rise this morning, this conversation from couple days ago came to my mind.

K: They've changed the company policy. Due to low completion rate, they won't allow employees to enroll Phd anymore unless strictly recommended. These past 10 years, from 10 candidates, only 2 graduated.

Me: I'm sorry for being the catalyst of such unfortunate regulation.

K: Listen closely. Out of 10, only 2 completed the task. You are one of them. You are the success story.

Me: well that's new. I thought my life is a grandeur failure.

The end is not near, it's here.

Yups. After the last defense presentation, I could humbly said that I'm no longer Ph.D student.

These past 5 years have been wonderfully challenging, yet it was a journey worth taking. My Ph.D journey didn't taught me how to be a star pupil, nor a summa cum laude graduate. It taught me how speak truth, to pick a side when you see injustice, to know that strength didn't come from within ourself, because as human we have nothing but limited knowledge, and power.

Now, it's time to go back to real world.

2023 is (probably) the crowded year in my PhD life, or my life in general. I'm not only talking about research progress, writing process, but also in terms of human relations around me. Never, as long as I remembered, people walked in and out of my life as much as in 2023. Today, on the very last day of 2023, after one wedding, 2 graduation ceremonies, 3 defense exams, 4 therapist sessions, I'm gonna remember 2023 as the year I almost give up.

And I'm glad I didn't.

The world is not okay. I'm not okay. How could I'll be okay knowing that on the other side of the world, children are killed every minute? Those scenes from your favorite fiction manifest in a daily life and still, the world goes blind. This world that glorified the important of mental health turned their back when a young man forced to documented the genocide of his family. I'm angry, and frustrated, but through their resilience I learned to appreciate small things in life.

I don't want a romantic partner I want friends who will go dumpster diving with me, I want neighbors who will knock on my door and ask for butter because they forgot to buy some and it's sunday. I want book shelves in public spaces, food banks and shared tool sheds and community gardens. I want to trade home grown tomatoes for a couple of eggs with my neighbor and I want to bring food over to my friends house when I've cooked too much. I want bicycle only streets and I want people to go on spontaneous walks with. I want people to ask me for help when they need it and I want to be able to ask for help in return. I want community as a safety net. I want people to stop focusing on the vague concept of the one, who will Cure All Isolation and Loneliness. I want every single person to be able to find support and comfort around them, regardless of their relationship status.

I think the hardest part of having only cats to hear you mumbling about your favorite fandom analysis is, they responded with 'mew', which sometimes makes me wanted to learn how to be an animal communicator.

My therapist told me to make a stress management plan, so it comes up with blowfish and coral reefs. Steven asked why did I always use oceans along with its inhabitants as an analogy. I told him it's because I am a marine scientist, my knowledge about life inside tropical rainforest was close to nothing.

Goosh the temperature has been so hot lately. Feels like we're stuck in summer.

I dedicated this week to finished our research center paper, this means more coffee and less sleep, so when my brother asked to join him for weekend lunch, I said yes without hesitation. We had yakiniku, and then coffee by the pond. The coffee shop was nice, but the sprinklers keeps splashing water to our table (definitely not a suitable place to work with electronic devices). Also, this place have a public rooftop with a spectacular city view at night.
