After a few hours of frantically drawing and writing up the final setlist, plans, room arrangements and digging through Cal’s office to find the list of reserved tables, Y/N was finally ready to call her job done. And now to jump right back into ghostly matters, which started with finding Julie and Willie and hoping they had some sort of plan figured out.
“Hey hey, look who’s finally back from the other side!” Flynn’s exclamation was met with winces from the boys and a wry smile from Y/N, “It sure was an adventure, Cal really should organise that office. How’s decorating going?” Flynn sighed in response, “It would be a lot better if some people actually helped out instead of talking to thin air.” She sent a mock glare to Julie who sent an eye roll straight back, “Kinda dealing with bigger and more important things right now, but sure I’ll blow up a balloon right after.”
“So, how has the whole possession thing been going? Any solid way to get Cal back?” Y/N asked, anxiety crawling up the sides of her stomach. Willie looked around at the group, all of whom were fidgeting and avoiding his gaze, sighing he turned back to her, “There is a way, but there’s no guarantee it will work.” Y/N nodded, gesturing for him to continue, “You have to establish a connection first then everything after that is up to Cal and his willpower. This situation is a little different to the one these guys got themselves into, and I’ve also never seen this before so this is the best I can come up with.”
She scrunched up her brow, how on earth did you make a connection with a possessed person? And so she asked exactly that, “Do something that means something to both of you; you’re in the music business, are there any songs that you two would sing together? Something like that. Apart from making the connection, there’s not much else you can do. I’m sorry.” Willie responded, Alex rubbed his arm comfortingly, “This isn’t your fault, it’s no one's fault but Calebs.” Y/N nodded in agreement, “Exactly, you’ve been so incredibly helpful, you all have,” She looked around the group, yes that includes Flynn, and smiled, “Thanks a bunch, you guys.” Her smile quickly transformed into a smug grin, “Luckily, I know exactly which song to use.”
---
A few hours passed and Le Paradis du Chanteur was ready to go, all of the evening’s acts were either out front or preparing in the back. She had seen Julie and the guys a few times in her rushed panic to get a song ready and change the setlist last minute, everything was completely ready and fine, of course, but it didn’t stop Y/N from worrying.
All that was left was to let the guests in, find Cal and make sure the first act was ready (not in that order). She huffed as she hunted down the first act, she supposed they weren’t actually that bad – in fact she could tolerate their outfits somewhat and their music was good. The members were a little annoying but good at what they did so who was she to judge.
Their clothing was easy to spot – they do look like a pack of highlighters (as their nickname would suggest) so it took Y/N no longer than 3 minutes to find them and less than 5 to check in and see that they were practically ready to go on the spot.
Now to find Cal, a challenge she was ready to face head-on, probably. It took Y/N quite a bit longer to find him but, after asking around and getting her co-worker to point her in the right direction, she found him sitting in the kitchen, blank as ever. Y/N sighed and pulled him into the main area, hoping he would at least interact with the guests if they spoke to him.
She hoped that this evening wouldn’t turn into a disaster but who knew at this point – she walked to the entrance and put on her best smile, and went to let everyone in.
 ---
A couple of acts had already gone and she was up next on the newly improved setlist – here goes the performance of a lifetime.
Y/N breathed out, stepping towards the mic, “Hello, everyone! I hope you’re enjoying your evening so far, we have only a few acts left to go! Before we continue, I’d just like to sing a little something in honour of our amazing manager, Cal!” A series of applause and a few whistles followed her words, Y/N relaxed, if anything went wrong at least she could say she tried. “As I’m sure some of our regulars know, Cal has always been one to enjoy a good musical, you’d hope so with this line of work.” Another ripple of laughter and a few cheers, a grin spread across her face. “When I first joined this diner as a performer, I auditioned with the song I’m about to sing for you now, I like to think of it as our song. Not to mention the fact that for at least 2 weeks after I got the job I couldn’t stop singing it, I think every one of the staff here tonight, and those who aren’t, know the song word for word now, sorry about that. So, with no further ado, I give you my audition song.” Taking the mic out of its stand, Y/N stepped back, spotting Cal sitting in the back corner, face empty of anything, as the backing music started up.
 Shake, shake, shake, Senora
Shake your body line
Shake, shake, shake, Senora
Shake it all the time
Y/N hopped off of the stage and skipped around tables, whenever she passed a staff member she dance with them for a second, before they would both move on, quickly forming a line.
 Work, work, work, Senora
Work your body line
Work, work, work, Senora
Work it all the time
The line quickly made its way back to the stage, everyone now singing to each other and dancing together. Y/N closed her eyes and quickly prayed that this was working. She skipped around the line, pointing at different staff members to sing the solo lines.
 My girl's name is Senora
I tell you, friends, I adore her
And when she dances, oh brother
She’s a hurricane in all kinds of weather
She laughed as she went back to her place in the line, smiling at her co-workers beside her.
Jump in the line, rock your body in time
(Okay, I believe you)
Jump in the line, rock your body in time
(Okay, I believe you)
The line jumped slightly to the left every time they sang that line and then danced with the people around them, some workers went to tables and started dancing and singing with the talent scouts or any families or regulars that had booked a place that evening.
 Shake, shake, shake, Senora
(Ahh)
Work, work, work, Senora
(Ahh- Woo!)
Y/N grabbed Sam’s hand and led them to the middle of the floor as she sang, turning to face them, trying to contain her giggles, as they did a mock opera performance.
 Cal, I know you’re listenin'
Doesn’t this just blow your mind?
I was on a mission
This is what I left behind
She made her way over to Cal, hoping to see something behind his eyes. Y/N pulled him up by his hand and danced him over to the line of performers at the front.
 I'll miss you every day
Seek a little strange and unusual
And you will find
The line, still acting as her incredibly enthusiastic backing vocals, started spreading out, a few stayed on the stage while others jumped off to dance and sing with the guests. Sam came over to Y/N and Cal and brought into a weird little circle dance as Noelle and Casey cackled from a nearby table.
 Life beyond all comprehension
A mess in multiple dimensions
A little unconventional, I know
Y/N’s eyes widened in worry as Cal groaned in pain in front of her. She waved Casey over who quickly grabbed him and sat him down on a nearby, empty chair.
 But, Cal, I am home
I'm home
I'm home
As soon as she had finished singing, Y/N rushed over to Cal. “You okay?” He grunted in return, “Been better, but then again I could probably be a lot worse.” Her breath hitched as he squeezed his eyes tight and groaned again. His breathing quickened slightly before he let out a big breath and a purple light appeared on his neck. Y/N pulled his collar down to get a better look at it but as quickly as it came it faded away again. “You doing good, Callerina?” He rolled his eyes, “I will be when you stop with those nicknames…and when Sam stops dancing like that.”
She laughed, tears pricking at her eyes, as Cal snorted at Sam’s ridiculous dancing, they were completely embarrassing Noelle as they forced her to waltz around the room. “I thought they said they were a professional dancer when I hired them. Oh well.” He turned to face Y/N, the twinkle back in his eyes, “I thought my return would be more dramatic, I’ll be honest. But this is alright too.” Y/N rubbed at her eyes as she scoffed at him, “Of course, only you would say this wasn’t dramatic enough.” Cal shrugged, “Well when you reach old age, like me, you’ll learn that even bending down takes a lot of effort, might as well make it worth the trouble.” Y/N rolled her eyes, “Cal, you’re 31. You’re not that old.” He sniffed in response, “I watched you grow into the ghostbuster that you’ve become, didn’t I? I think that’s old enough.” She scoffed, though a fond smile played on the edges of her lips, “Well, since you ruined our nice moment I might as well get back to orders and making sure all of our acts are okay.” Cal’s eyes widened at that, “I forgot, I’m so sorry you had to do that all alone, I’ll let you steal anything you want from the diner kitchen after this as a sorry and thank you gift.” She grinned, “As if I wasn’t gonna do that already.”
Y/N walked away, giggling to herself as she heard Cal squawk in indignation behind her. This was totally worth it, she had her family back and a new family as well.
 ---
It was now the end of the night, lots of people were ordering the last things to eat or drink or finishing up what they already had before they left. All performers were out on the floor, taking orders, entertaining young children or talking to talent scouts if they had the time. It was the noisiest it had been all evening, even with all the bands and music, performance and dancing that had occurred.
Julie awkwardly stood on stage, fiddling with the mic stand. “Excuse me? Hi. Um, so I know this is kinda weird and short notice but one of our band members has a message for a special someone so we hope you enjoy.” She steps back from the mic and moves over to the keyboard towards the front corner of the performance area, Reggie practically vibrated behind the mic whilst the other two musketeers glared at him to chill out before he caused the mic to screech.
The audience had quietened down and now sat in expectant silence, Y/N continued serving, though the short notice act did seem to capture most of her attention (albeit confused stares but her attention nonetheless). Reggie took a few deep breaths, readying himself to poof and basically confess his newfound feelings to a living girl who captured his undead heart, wanting what you can’t have really had been taken to that level, huh.
Julie’s fingers danced across the keyboard as Reggie poofed in and strummed along on the acoustic guitar Julie had pried from Luke’s cold, dead hands, he had wanted to keep the song simple, strip it down to its purest form, mirroring his feelings. That and the fact that he had done this last minute and dragged everyone around him into it, so showing off and using flashy techniques was something they just didn’t have the time to add in.
When we know something is true
Beyond question or doubt
There's no particular point
In pointing it out
Reggie strums his guitar, looking solely at either the guitar or the mic, trying to gather up his courage. He wrote this song for Y/N, why couldn’t he just look at her?
Blue is the colour of sky
'Cause mothers all worry
And old people die
A phone rings, a bee stings
It's something you don't need to hear
It's just clear
He looked back at Julie, finding her smiling at him encouragingly. He smiled back at her in return. He could do this!
 Why go stating the obvious?
It's so painfully obvious
How could you miss
Something that's this plain to see?
When it's glaring and staring
Right at you
So obviously
He looked up to meet Y/N’s eyes, she had stopped moving around after handing out her last order, instead, she stood staring at him, completely awestruck. He almost chuckled, how could she stare at him like he hung the stars when she was brighter than the sun?
When you get bored you draw stars
On the cuffs of your jeans
You still fill out the quizzes you find
In those teen magazines
And you dance like nobody's there
Awkward and perfect
You don't even care
Something courageous, amazing, contagious
And kind
All combined
Y/N huffed out breathy laughs as she stared at him, the stupid, leather-covered, ghost boy. She knew she hadn’t fallen in love – she hadn’t fallen anywhere, she had walked into her feelings, completely aware and content. He made it easy, Y/N hoped she made it easy too.
 Why go stating the obvious?
It's so painfully obvious
How could you miss
Something that's this plain to see?
When it's glaring and staring
Right at you
So obviously
Sam grabbed her by the hand and pulled her towards the stage until she was right in front of it – right in front of him, “Have fun with your Romeo, don’t forget about us when you’re off on dates.” They cackled as they ran away, narrowly avoiding Y/N’s punches.
 Sometimes the words
We tend to withhold
But they're exactly the words
Someone needs to be told
But oh, thinking they know
We never say "I love you
I love you
I love you
I love you"
Y/N smiled up at him as he beckoned her onto the stage. She never thought when she took up this part of the job that she’d end up meeting a bunch of ghosts and their human companion + friend, have her manager be possessed and garner feelings for the golden retriever incarnate.
 'Cause why go
Stating the obvious
It's so painfully obvious
How could you miss
Something that's this plain to see?
When it's glaring, and staring right at you
So obviously
As the song quieted down, Julie shared looks with Alex and Luke pretended like he wasn’t tearing up at the sight of the pair on stage. Sam and Noelle smiled at each other and Casey rolled her eyes, she truly was surrounded by idiots that she had somehow adopted, not that she regretted it necessarily but she would never admit it.
“Hey, Y/N,” Reggie stepped away from the mic, “I’m not in love with you or anything, but I think I could be if you’d be okay with that?” The girl in question chuckled, “I think I could love you too, eventually. But how about we get to know each other for longer than a week first, sound good?”
“Sounds perfect, Diner Gal.”

Y/N sat on a stool at the counter in Le Paradis du Chanteur, a broom leant against the edge. She played with a pen whilst staring down at blank pages of her notebook, her whole body felt heavy and she couldn’t will herself to do anything, the truth had hit her full force like a bright red truck with flashing neon signs that read ‘Caution! Heartbreak!’. She knew she didn’t love him; it was too soon for that but it didn’t stop the aching feeling of knowing all of her options were really only one option: let him go. No matter how selfish Y/N wanted to be she knew that it wasn’t fair to any of them, she wasn’t heartless or ignorant, she knew what accepting Caleb’s offer would do and she refused to take the easy way out.
She would much rather a future alone and without Reggie in it, knowing that he’s safe and happy than condemn him to a life he never wanted, well afterlife but the sentiment stayed the same. Plus, it wasn’t just Reggie, there was Luke and Alex too and they would have to suffer through the consequences of her choice just as much as Reggie would. It wasn’t fair. Y/N sighed and put the pen down on the paper, her chair scraping against the floor as she got up and walked over to the office, staring at the drawer that withheld her chance, her hope. With a slight sigh, she found the courage to open the it and hold the contract in her hands.
Reggie would rip it for you if he were in the same situation.
So, she did, she closed her eyes and did it.
She ripped it.
A blinding light filled the room, a warm sensation wrapped itself around her fingers, growing until it was so unbearably hot that she dropped the ripped pieces of paper, almost instantly the light faded and the heat from before waned into a fuzzy tingling in the tips of her fingers. Y/N hesitantly opened her eyes and saw the contract on the floor, singed along the rip lines. A dark purple mark was burned into the paper, the lines disintegrated and spread across the paper until there was nothing left but thin streaks of ash on the floor. She did it. She really did it, she let him go. All that was left was to wait until the end of the Friday event and then live out the rest of her life as if she’d never heard of Julie and the Phantoms.
Easier said than done but Y/N was determined. If she could take on an evil ghost magician, she could handle pretty much anything.
---
“And that’s kinda what happened, I guess…”
“Y/N, you’re like one of those really cool superheroes whose origin story is like, the saddest but coolest thing of all time: A waitress who was looking for more in her life than just scrubbing tables comes to find she can communicate with ghosts, specifically three incredibly handsome, cool and charming musicians who teach her there’s more to life than work. Then, the bad guy comes in and messes everything up, though we do have to mention he has amazing food at his ghost joint, but because the waitress is so cool, she saves herself and the three ghosts. But the hero always has to have someone die or sacrifice something, like Cal, sad really. The end!”
Y/N slumped, a terrible sludge-like feeling eating her up inside. She had totally forgotten about Cal, assuming the boys hadn’t found Cal a way out, she had pretty much just sacrificed any chance at freedom he would ever get. Sighing, Y/N looked up to meet Reggie’s questioning gaze who quickly turned pale with realisation, “Oh- sorry, I guess that would still be a sore subject, and you know what, I’ll just stop talking now…”  She forced out a chuckle which quickly faded into a sad smile, her gaze turning toward the floor “It’s okay, Reggie. I know you didn’t mean it like that, I just wish there was more I could do…I feel useless, like I can’t save him, I can’t even get credible information sources to even start to help him. I just, I wish I could do more.” Y/N let out a breath, looking back up at Reggie, “Sorry, that was a lot, huh?”
Reggie bit the inside of his cheek, his brows furrowing, “I just had an idea, I’m not sure if it would work but it’s the best I’ve got.” Y/N’s eyes widened, “Well anything is better than nothing, I’m all ears.”
“Right, so when we performed at the Orpheum we were marked by Caleb, we would either have to join him or disappear for probably forever. After the show we went back to Julie’s garage and she hugged Luke, they started it glowing, it was really weird but awesome too, and so we joined in and we glew, glowed? Glowed, glew? Whatever, we did it too and the marks just disappeared. What if she could do that for Cal? Sorry it’s the best I have, I’m not all that great at-” Y/N wrapped her arms around him in the tightest hug she could muster, “You’re a genius, thank you so much!” Reggie chuckled awkwardly, “It might not even work, and even if it did, I wouldn’t have done anything much to help, it’d be all Julie.” She shook her head, a slightly watery smile on her face, “Leather Boy, you’re the humblest person I know, and that’s probably not a good thing. You’ve helped me so much; you’ve done so much more than I ever could, I don’t think I would even have had the courage to rip the contract if it weren’t for you. Thank you so much, Reggie. You’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met and I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“Thanks, Diner Gal, that means a lot.” She grinned, desperately trying to get rid of the depressing atmosphere, “Everything I say means a lot, Leather Boy, it’s what happens when you reach your peak as the edgy, ‘not like other girls’ girl in middle school; everything you say becomes wisdom.” He slowly nodded, a small, confused smile plastered on his face, “I’ll pretend I know what that mean s and go ask Julie later after I’ve convinced her to help Cal, see you, Diner Gal.”
“Right back at you, Leather Boy.”
---
Y/N tied some balloons together before attaching them to a weight and strategically placing them around, okay she was just putting them down randomly but whatever, who needs strategy when you have a night full of music and, hopefully, possession free Cal’s in the near future.
“Wow, this is really starting to take shape. Love the balloons, I do hope they don’t pop whilst we’re performing though.”
She spun around to face the group behind her, “Hey, Firecracker, good to see you. And of course, I can’t forget, Leather Boy, Lover Boy, Boomer and my favourite marketing team, how are you all?”
“Great, it’s nice to see you again since Reggie’s been keeping you all to himself.”
“I have not! You and Luke are just busy pretending to write lyrics when you’re actually staring into each other’s eyes and Alex is with Willie pretending he’s gonna learn to skate when he’s actually just gushing over Willie.”
“Uh…” The mentioned parties turned as bashful as the Disney dwarf whilst Y/N and Flynn doubled over in laughter at their expressions.
“Man, Jules, what did he say back to mad you that flustered?”
“Don’t talk to me or I’ll egg your house.”
“Hey, I didn’t even go through with it, I don’t get why you’re still mad about it.” Both girls glared at each other for a second before bursting out in a second bout of laughter. Y/N turned to Reggie with an amused expression, “This is your fault, you know that, right?” A sheepish smile crosses his lips, “I realise that now, yeah.”
“Good, I was just checking.”
“Anyway, Y/N, Reggie was telling us about some ghost magician troubles you may or may not have, how can I help?” Y/N nearly cried in relief, there was a chance she was getting her self-appointed uncle back, “Uh, if you know how to get rid of Caleb’s mark that would help, from what I’ve been told that’s how he gets control or least has influence; since he can be outside of Cal’s body it’s probably less possession and more influence or control, if you get what I mean.” Julie nodded along, a thoughtful look on her face, “Yeah, I tried reading up on what happened more but most of it was just people trying to make a buck of off other people’s desperation…Actually, hey, Alex? Do you think you could get Willie this short notice?” He shrugged, “Maybe, I’ll see if I can get him, see you guys in a minute.”
Immediately after Alex poofed out Luke started grumbling, “Not even a question as to why, just so desperate to see his boyfriend…” Y/N rolled her eyes, “I bet you’re the same with your dearest Julie though, aren’t you, Lover Boy?”
“Tell that to Reggie.”
“Okay, setting up time, positions everyone!” Flynn flitted around, ushering the air into different positions before pushing Y/N and Julie to different ‘awesomeness-in-progress stations’
---
After about 15 minutes of blowing up balloons, hanging up bunting and banners and moving tables away from the enlarged performance area, Alex finally returned with Willie. “Took you long enough, jeez.”
“Okay, Romeo, I’ll remember that for next time, but let’s focus on saving Cal and tonight’s performance, yeah?” Willie quickly stepped in, “Hey, I’m Willie, Alex told me about you guys. Julie and Y/N, right?” His gaze turned to Flynn who was sorting through a pile of ribbons on the floor, “Can the other lifer see me? Or is that a no-go?” Julie smiled, “Nice to officially meet you, and no, she can’t see you, but she does know you’re here since I dragged her into this mess, so if she randomly starts talking to air or addressing you please try to ignore my loveable and not at all exasperating best friend.” Flynn looked up form the pile and flashed a smile at Julie, “That’s me! I’m also the only one setting up right now? Come on, guys, there’s still an event on tonight.”
“Right, I still have to set up light, sound, make copies of the setlist and make sure all of our performer’s resting spaces are prepared. Not to mention getting the staff ready. Would it be okay if I did those while you discuss? I’ll be here for the main event; I just have a lot to do.” Julie laid a hand on Y/N’s shoulder, “Relax, we got this. You sort out the diner, I’ll fill you in later.” She received a tired smile in return, “Thanks, Firecracker. It was nice meeting you, Willie. I’ll see you guys in just a bit.”

Diner Gal - Reggie x Reader Part 10
Requested: It’s a series, there are no requests here!
Word count: 1,088
Warnings: Cursing
Summary: Julie and the Phantoms ( + Flynn ) go to a musical diner/café/restaurant for inspiration and hopefully a future gig but they end up meeting a very special waitress.
Note: I’m back! Sorry, I had catch up on school work but luckily I have a week off now so more time to write. We’re also nearing the end which makes me really sad lmao (if you have any requests or suggestions for other things to write about let a girl know lol)
I felt like adding more to the diner staff because it’s meant to be like a family but you only know some names and that Sam is the best character here- Caleb as Mother Gothel is my new favourite thing btw I have way too many Willex/Tangled headcanons for no reason lmao

Y/N absent-mindedly stirred a cup of coffee, staring into space as her co-workers observed her from afar. “Is- is she okay?” Sam whispered to Noelle who turned to glare at him incredulously, “You’re not serious, are you? She looks like her pet hamster was just taken for ransom and killed right after she handed over the money- what do you mean is she okay, of course not!” Sam raised their hands in defence, “Alright chill, I was just asking because if were to ask her I would straight up die. You girls are fucking scary.” You could almost hear the snaps of necks as all the female staff turned to glare at them. Noelle jabbed her finger into their chest, leaning close to their face. “Now you listen to me, Sammy, you haven’t seen scary and you best hope you never do. Now stop gawking and do your work!” She stepped back and went to pick up an order from the counter. Sam gulped and looked away, “That was kinda hot. Scary, but crazy attractive…” Casey raises an eyebrow and steps away from her observing point, “Okay, we get it, you’re a simp, get back to work before she actually gets mad.” Sam nodded frantically, saluting her before running to take orders.
Casey sighed, “I’m like a single mother but without the commitment of having real kids.” She turned to look back at Y/N, “And now time to sort this mess out.” Casey made her way over to the counter and started messing around with the ketchup and mustard bottles, “So, Doll, you gonna stay here feeling sorry for yourself or tell me what’s going on with you?”
---
Y/N sat in the break room, after hours once again due to Caleb. “Okay, Y/N, we’re gonna fix this, we’ll sort it out just fine! The only problem is the whole possession thing, I have no clue how that stuff works. If I can find a way around that then we should be fine…would an exorcism work?” Y/N tenses when she hears chuckling from behind her, “I hope you aren’t planning on getting rid of me, Diner Gal.” She released a breath she didn’t know she was holding, all the tension flooding out of her body, “Hey, Leather Boy. No, I’ve got other ghostly problems other than just you.” Reggie frowned, he may be an airhead sometimes but he liked to believe he was at least a bit perceptive of other’s emotions so he decided to try and cheer her up anyway he could.
Reggie gasped, raising a hand to his heart feigning offence, “Are you cheating on me? I thought I was your only ghost problem.” He started panicking when he saw her shoulders start shaking, was Y/N crying? How do you comfort a crying girl and not make her even more upset? “Are you okay? I’m sorry!” Y/N quickly turned to look at him, “Sorry? For what? Oh” “Okay, so not that perceptive with emotions…” He muttered to himself, Y/N furrowed her eyebrows but shrugged it off
“Anyway, what are your ghostly troubles? Perhaps I could help since I do happen to be of the ghostly variety.” Y/N hesitated before blurting out her troubles, “OkaysotheresthisweirdghostmancalledCalebandhespossessingCalandIdontknowwhattodosoifyouhaveanyideasonhowtohelppleasetellme-“
“Okay, I know I’m a fast talker but I don’t speed Sonic the Hedgehog so slow down and I’ll help out as best as I can, alright?” Y/N nodded, suddenly taking great interest in the skin around her fingernails, “So, um, there’s this ghost dude who is possessing Cal, he said his name was Caleb and that I either have to make a deal with him or I’ll lose Cal forever.” But if I do that I’ll lose you too-
“Wow, that is rough. Um, okay, I’ll get Alex to ask his boyfriend if there’s anything we can do to help Cal. Just, don’t worry about it too much, we’ll get through this.” Y/N sniffed, feeling her eyes start to water, “We? You’ll really help me?” Reggie’s gaze softened and he took both of her hands in his, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles, “Of course I will, I’d never make you deal with this by yourself, and hey, now we know why Cal was loading you up with extra work!” Y/N chuckled, turning her gaze toward their intertwined hands, “Thanks, Reg. That means a lot.” She smiled up at him as Reggie’s face and tips of his ears turned red, “You okay? You’re uh-“ She took one of her hands away from his grip and gestured towards her face. Reggie looked away, his blush worsening, “Point is, I’m here for you, so don’t worry! I’m gonna go ask Alex’s boyfriend for help but I’ll see you later.”
Y/N nodded as she moved away, giving him space to poof, “Right, see ya later.” Reggie held her gaze for a few more seconds before waving and poofing out.
“Well, I thought he’d never leave!”
Y/N spun around to face the purple-clad puppeteer she’d come to know as Caleb, “You. What do you want now?” She was met with a sinister laugh, one that she was quickly growing tired of. “My dear, I’m simply here to drop off something that will, when signed, make our deal permanent and binding.” Y/N rolled her eyes, “And exactly why would I sign that?” She shivered as the slightly tense atmosphere turned frigid, if the feeling before could be described as a muddy red, agitated but otherwise harmless, this feeling was a piercing blue, capable of cutting through a person and freezing them in place. “Listen here, girlie. If you ever want to see your precious Cal again you’ll have this signed before the end of the boys little performance on Friday. Is that clear?” Y/N swallowed before meeting his penetrating stare, “Crystal.”
“Perfect, I’m glad there are no misunderstanding between us, I wouldn’t want to accidentally lose Cal’s soul whilst I’m possessing him.” Y/N stared him down, hoping her glower had at least some effect on him. “You wouldn’t dare-“ “Darling, in case you hadn’t noticed, you hold no power over me and saying something as pointless as that won’t change anything. Now, here’s my contract. Do think over it, won’t you?” He placed it on the nearest surface before disappearing in a poof of black smoke. “Fucking dramatic ass bitch.”
Y/N ran a hand over her face, groaning at the thought of more problems being added onto her already comically long list. “I hope Leather Boy’s friend has some answers or I’m fucking done for…”

Y/N sat on a table, writing out the setlist for the next day, another job Cal had left for her to do and it pissed her off to no end. She understood having a bad day, sure it sucked but don’t take it out on your employees! She let out a breath she didn’t realise she had been holding and decided that as long as she got paid properly she would put up with pretty much anything.
She still needed to practice her duet with one of the guys, Josh, but of course, he couldn’t be here, just her luck. Obviously, she didn’t blame him, things happened, but everything seemed to be going wonky lately and all Y/N was some stability in her life, Cal was a different person all of a sudden, she more work than she could handle and top it all off she was developing feelings for a ghost. Scratch that, she has feelings for a ghost that she could touch but no one else could see and it honestly kind of scared her.
Y/N huffed, placing her notebook next to her before hopping off the table, it was clear to see that she wouldn’t get anything done any time soon.
“Hey, Diner Gal! It’s your favourite phantom, me!” Y/N jumped a bit before turning around, an exasperated smile on her face, “Hello, Leather Boy, nice seeing you again.” Reggie grinned, he loved hearing her voice, it comforted him and made him feel wanted, “So, what are we doing?” Y/N sighed, turning back to her notebook, “I’m stressing over a setlist and a duet I’m supposed to be practising for, but I don’t expect you to do the same.” Y/N grinned at him over her shoulder. A worried puppy expression clouded over Reggie’s face, then he thought of an idea that brought a bright smile onto his face, “How about I help you practice? I mean, I could sing the other part, girl or guy. I’ve been told I have an excellent Sandy impression, I’m especially good at Summer Lovin’ in case you were wondering.” He winked at her causing her to burst into laughter, a warm smile lighting up her face.
“Um, sure, you heard and Dear Evan Hansen?”
“Have I? Julie showed 1 song to Alex and he wouldn’t shut up about it, he kept making Julie play us those songs over and over and over again, I think I know literally every line by now. Alex swears that he is Evan but instead of Connor it’s Zoe who’s dead and that him and Connor are happily married with a puppy.” Reggie widened his eyes to emphasize his point, Y/N snickered, “What a terrible fate you’ve been succumbed to.” Reggie rolled his eyes, secretly admiring how carefree the girl before him looked, “I’m serious! My ears can recognize any song from 3 miles away!”
“Okay, so, do you know Only Us?” Reggie nodded, he knew that one especially well, not just because of Alex but because it was his personal favourite, it’s how he always imagined love would feel like, carefree, a little awkward but completely accepting and unconditional. It wasn’t something he had experienced very much of and certainly not in the way the song presented it but he hoped maybe one day he could experience it exactly how the song said, with Y/N. “Yeah, I do. Is that the song?”
“Yep. I’ll just put the backing on, thanks for this.” Y/N smiled before making her way towards the counter where the kept the tech stuff. Soon the familiar melody drifted out of the speakers in the room and Y/N made her way back to Reggie.
I don't need you to sell me on reasons to want you
I don't need you to search for the proof that I should
You don't have to convince me
You don't have to be scared you're not enough
'Cause what we've got going is good
Y/N was looking right into Reggie’s eyes and it honestly made his heart skip a good thousand beats, he felt like she singing directly to him, like he was the only person that mattered. She made him feel alive.
I don't need more reminders of all that's been broken
I don't need you to fix what I'd rather forget
Clear the slate and start over
Try to quiet the noises in your head
We can't compete with all that
She moved closer to him, raising a hand to push away a strand of hair from his eyes, a soft smile forming on both of their faces. She stepped back, wringing her hands in front of her.
So what if it's us?
What if it's us
And only us
And what came before won't count anymore or matter?
Can we try that?
She took his hand and raised it up to meet her own before intertwining their fingers, she smiled down at them before meeting his eyes, the awe in them shining through causing her to smile bashfully and look back down.
What if it's you
And what if it's me
And what if that's all that we need it to be
And the rest of the world falls away?
 What do you say?
Reggie unlinked their fingers and poofed onto a nearby table causing Y/N to snicker as her nearly kicked a ketchup bottle.
I never thought there'd be someone like you who would want me
 Well...
Y/N looked away, feeling more than slightly flustered, why was a song so much better at deciphering her feelings than her own mind!
So I give you ten thousand reasons to not let me go
But if you really see me
If you like me for me and nothing else
Well, that's all that I've wanted for longer than you could possibly know
Reggie poofed back down and held both of her hands, looking into her eyes. It felt like they were promising to be with each other forever, no matter what, just like in the song.
So it can be us
It can be us
And only us
And what came before won't count anymore or matter
We can try that
He pulled her into a hug, singing into her ear, she’d never been serenaded before and this was probably the closest she’d ever come to a real experience but Y/N swore that no one would ever understand how she felt. It was perfect, even though it was all just practice for a duet she was doing with some else.
It's not so impossible
Nobody else but the two of us here
'Cause you're saying it's possible
We can just watch the whole world disappear
'Til you're the only one
I still know how to see
Y/N sat on a nearby table, Reggie standing in front of her holding her hands tightly, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles.
It's just you and me
It'll be us
It'll be us
Heat pooled in both of their cheeks, this moment was special, no matter what happened after they both knew this had connected them. Y/N brought a hand up to his cheek and brushed her thumb over it, delicately as if it were a petal.
And only us
And what came before won't count anymore
Y/N got off of the table, letting go of Reggie’s hands causing him to feel slightly disappointed, he enjoyed the warmth that radiated from her like she was the sun. She was the sun that brought light to his world. She belted out the note and Reggie just stared in awe.
We can try that
You and me
That's all that we need it to be
And the rest of the world falls away
And the rest of the world falls away
She went back over to him, once again intertwining their fingers before Reggie looped his arms around her waist and she wrapped her around his neck.
The world falls away
The world falls away
And it's only us
They stared at each other for a few more seconds before Y/N buried her head into his neck and Reggie squeezed her tighter. He was afraid, what if this didn’t work? What if they turned into his parents? But then again, what if they clicked and everything was perfect. That was a risk he wasn’t sure he could take but he was starting to come to the conclusion that it might be worth it.
Neither of them knew how long they stayed like that but eventually, Y/N moved away, “So, uh, I should get back to work, you know, things to do and, uh, people to please.” She chuckled awkwardly, how do you follow that up with casual conversation? “Oh, yeah, Julie and the guys are probably wondering where I am.”
“Right.”
“Right.”
“So, bye.” It came out more unsure and more of a question than Y/N had hoped it would but Reggie didn’t seem to notice, “Yeah, um, bye.” She stepped back and sent him a small wave and smile which he returned before poofing out.
.
.
.
“Well, wasn’t that just sickeningly sweet, I do so love it when romantic drama is added to the mix.” Y/N whipped around and was met with the same guy in purple she had seen just the day before. “Who are you and what are you doing here?” The man mockingly gasped, “How rude of me, the name’s Caleb, I’m a very special…friend of Cal’s” Y/N raised a brow in disbelief, “Oh really? How do you know him?” Caleb rolled his eyes, “Cal, are we friends?” Y/N frowned before spotting Cal walk out of the shadows, what the fuck was happening and why was it kinda terrifying. “Yes, we are.”
“Cal, what the fuck is up with you?” But Cal didn’t answer, he just stared, he stared into nothing, as if anything and everything didn’t exist and he was the only one there. She glared at this Caleb guy, “What did you do to him?” Caleb smirked and chuckled? Deep, scary laughed? Whatever it was it made Y/N’s skin crawl, no one should laugh like that and not get thrown into a bin. “I just gave Cal a little ultimatum and he chose well, so now I have a little, how do I put this, control over him.”
“Now I have an ultimatum for you too, you see, I’ve been giving you a gift, a present shall we say, but everything comes with a cost and so now I’ve come to collect.” Y/N shook her head in confusion, “What’re you talking about? What gift and what price?” Caleb did another weird chuckles thing that made Y/N roll her eyes. “Sweetheart, how do you think you can see those boys? Why have you never seen any other ghosts beforehand?” Y/N stuttered, it made sense but it still kinda hurt. “What’s your price?” Caleb smirk, “That’s exactly what I wanted to hear, and it’s simple really, I want the boys. And you’re gonna help me get them.”
That was not what Y/N expected, “What happens if I don’t?” Caleb’s expression darkened, “Well, you’ll have to get used to a life without your precious ‘Leather Boy’” He pulled a face at the nickname whilst Y/N stood there frozen in shock.
Well shit.

“Hey, Diner Gal.”
Y/N smiled at the floor before turning around to face her surprise visitor, “How’s it hanging, Leather Boy?”  She probably wouldn’t admit it out loud but Reggie’s random visits were probably the main reason why Y/N had been arriving at work extra early and leaving extra late. “Alright, Julie is kinda freaking out and getting Flynn to help her pick an outfit and then Flynn freaks out and gets Julie to help her decide on a theme for the marketing stuff. You?” Y/N shrugged, “The usual.”
“So, what can I do you for?” Reggie looked down, a red flush covering his cheeks and the tips of his ears, “Well, I kinda wanted to just hang out because Julie and Luke are “writing some songs” but we all know it’s just a date and Alex is with Willie and I’m willing to bet my left sock that they’re on a date too and I didn’t wanna be alone so I thought that you’re really nice so I came here.” A smile danced on Y/N’s lips and her gaze softened, he was too sweet and just hearing his voice made her cheeks heat up slightly. Reggie’s eyes widened and he met her gaze, a horrified expression painting his face, “Unless you’re busy, sorry, I’ll- I’ll just go-“
“Woah, Reg, chill out. I’ve just got to plan out the way we’re gonna decorate the room on Friday. Plus, I like having you around, it makes my job a lot less boring.” Y/N smiled before grabbing a black notebook an opening it to a new page, she scribbled down a title so she’d remember what it was for before bullet pointing her ideas. “You know, I just realised, how much work do you do? I mean, you’re around the same age as us, you have a job and you basically co-manage this place whilst also working here as an entertainer. Do you even go to school?”
Y/N chuckled and turned to face him, “This is a part-time job but I do usually sneak in extra hours just to help out Cal, he can’t do everything by himself and there isn’t anyone else to help him, plus he’s a family friend and basically my uncle at this point. As for school, I do online school which I pay for with this job, and it all comes full circle.” Reggie frowned, “Still, it sounds like a lot. You should come to Julie’s sometime during practice and just hang out. No folders, no notes, no work, just hanging out and having a good time! And  promise me you’ll start taking it easy”
“Alright, Leather Boy, I promise and maybe I’ll take you up on that someday. But for now, just focus on your gig that’s coming up in two days, not including today of course. Speaking of, do you mind helping me out with this, I get the impression you have a lot of ideas locked up in that brain of yours.” Reggie looked at her in surprise, “You really want my help? I mean, you could ask anyone for help, why me?” Y/N stared at Reggie, her brows furrowing as a  worried expression crossed her face, “Why wouldn’t I? Reggie you’re amazing and I wouldn’t want anyone else to help me.”
“Really?”
“Of course.”
---
“Finish up these papers for me, I’m going out.”
“Cal, I’m already doing more than I should, I have to finish off an essay and send it in before lunch. You haven’t even started your time listings for today yet.” Y/N blew at a piece of hair that kept falling into her eyes and glared up at Cal.
“I said finish them, I’m going out.” Cal slammed the papers onto her desk and walked out of the office. “Cal, what the fuck!” Y/N stood up, her chair slamming into the wall behind her as she ran after him, papers in hand, “Where the hell are you going?” “Out.”
Cal shot her a cold glare that made her freeze in place before walking out. Y/N groaned in frustration, throwing the papers to the floor, “Shit, fuck, kill me.” Sighing, she knelt on the floor and gathered the papers back up. “Fucking asshole, but he might have something important to do and he’s just stressed about it. Calm down, Y/N.” She kept muttering reassurance to herself so as not to lose her temper once again.
Y/N glanced down at the paper, it was her schedule for the note giving out extravaganza. Oh fuckerooney, she was meant to do that now and she was already late. Y/N ran into the office and stuffed all the notes into a bag which she slung onto her shoulder before sprinting out into the street and making her way to her first stop: Firecracker’s house.
---
“Y/N? You look like you ran all the way here…don’t tell me, you did, didn’t you.”
“Perhaps.”
Julie rolled her eyes despite the grin growing on her face, “You’re an idiot, you know that, right? And your face is really red.” Y/N gasped dramatically, bringing her hands to her cheeks in comical shock, “You don’t say?”
“Julie! Who’s at the door? Tell them to go away, we need to practice!” Both girls stared at each other for a second in slight shock before bursting into laughter, Y/N cleared her throat before turning to Julie, “You might want to cover your ears.” Julie raised a brow but complied as Y/N took a deep breath, “Oi, dunderheads! I thought you wanted your notes but I guess not!” Silence followed and it everything in her to not burst out laughing or snort. “And go…” Julie furrowed her eyebrows and the snickered at the sounds of scraping and scrambling that came from inside the garage.
“No! Please, give us the cheat sheet so we can win!”
“Not a cheat sheet and it’s not a competition but yes, please ignore him! We need your help!”
“Wait there’s a cheat sheet? No one said anything about a test!”
“Okay, boys, chill out and let her breath before she joins you in the afterlife.” Y/N sent Julie a grateful smile before setting the notes down on the coffee table and quickly stepping back as the boys (specifically Luke) dived for them. “So, as per mandatory instructions I need to explain the notes and help you use them to your advantage but I also took on all of Cal’s work until the weekend alongside my own so I hope you don’t mind me checking the finance’s, writing setlists and my essay and other work stuff. I promise you will still get the full explanation for each and every note!”
“You took on more? You already have so much, you promised that you’d take it easy!” Y/N rubbed her knuckles, “I know but Cal walked out on me earlier and hasn’t been himself lately so I needed to pick up where he left off. Plus, all the other workers need a manager and so that’s what I’ll become.” Julie sighed, stroking her finger along the piano keys as she sat down, “As longs as you’re sure it’s okay.” Reggie furrowed his brow but picked up his bass and slung it over his shoulder nonetheless, his concern and probable disappointment made the nasty, sinking feeling of guilt weigh down on Y/N. She didn’t like letting people down but she needed to do this, for her family, for Cal, for herself.
“So let’s do this, you can read through it and then I’ll walk you through it all.”
.
.
.
“Oh! Julie, can you call Flynn? I’d like to see what she’s got before putting everything out there.” Julie frowned, “Are you sure, you’re already doing so much, I don’t wanna-“ “Julie, it’ll be fine just call her up, I’d rather get this done, it’s now or never.” Luke snorted, Alex rolled his eyes but smiled and Reggie choked causing Y/N to raise a brow before shrugging it off, she just needed to see this through and then maybe Cal would be okay again.
A small smile made its way onto her face when she saw Julie and Luke link pinkies behind the piano, she didn’t that was possible but they were cute so you didn’t particularly us. And hey, she got Luke’s nickname spot on, so there’s also that.
“Okay, if you’re sure then I’m sure Flynn will be delighted.” Y/N grinned, “Sweetness, let me know when she’ll get here so I can prepare a space the printer in our office back at the diner.” Reggie furrowed his eyebrows and tilted his head, kinda like a confused puppy, “How do you prepare it? Are you leaving already?” Y/N chuckled and shook her head, “No, the printer is wireless and connects to all of the staff’s phones and laptops. Since I only have my phone on me I’ll be using that.”
“Ohhhh! That makes sense!”
“Yeah, Willie said something like that when we went sightseeing and we say printings being put out without anyone nearby.”
“That’s stupid, just draw them or something, what if the wireless breaks?”
“You’re talking loud for someone with bad handwriting.”
---
“Hey everybody, your favourite manager has arrived!”
“Thanks for coming, Flynn. Y/N is just setting up the wireless connection back to her office, have you got a copy of the flyer or something?” Flynn grinned, “You know I do, and can I just say that I really appreciate me and my talents and you should too. You’re welcome.” Julie chuckled and led Flynn over to Y/N who looked up at them with a smile. “Hey, Flynn, it’s really great to see you again. Sorry about the short notice.” Y/N picked at the tips of her nails, a bashful smile making its way onto her face, “No problem, since Julie ditched me for her invisible boyfriend and his band geek friends I haven’t had much chance to hang around, now you’re my excuse.” Julie rolled her eyes as Flynn stuck her tongue out in her direction.
Y/N chuckled and put her phone down beside her, “Well, I’m glad to be of service. So, may I see your masterpiece?” Flynn grinned and pulled her phone out of a pocket, “I thought you’d never ask.”
---
“Thanks so much, Flynn. Your flyer’s amazing, we might have to hire you properly.” Y/N winked, a bright smile on her face, “Really? I mean, these guys really need my talents but if I find some time away I might drop by.” The two girls laughed and then a thought popped into Y/N’s head. She rummaged through her bag and brought out her notebook; she ripped out a page and wrote her number onto it. “Here, Julie already has pretty much all of my contact info but I just remembered you don’t, so here’s my number.” Flynn smiled, “Thanks, I’ll put it in my phone when I get home.”
“Y/N! Do your job and help us now!” She rolled her eyes and stood up, “Once again, thanks.” Flynn sent her finger guns in return. She walked over to where the ‘band geeks’ were congregated around the piano.
“Okay, so it says ‘Remember to interact with audience members’ and ‘Move around when possible’. What does that mean?” Y/N smiled and leant against the piano, “The first one is simple, Cal really liked how you guys react with each other but since we are a performing diner the audience want to be included as well, so interact with them, send them smiles, wave at specific people, pick people out of the crows, that sort of stuff.” She shifted her body to a more comfortable position, “As for moving around, again, we’re a performing diner, everyone will have a mic pack, since you can pick up, hold and wear physical things I’m gonna assume you can wear mic packs too. I don’t know how your amps work though so just move as much as possible, Julie if you can do the most moving around that would be great, we’ll have some performers dancing and working around you but you guys are our main attraction when you’re performing. Just do what you can to the best of your ability, that's all we ask.”
“Well, I’m sure we can do that, right, boys?”
“Obviously, have you not heard us rehearse this week? We’re going blow everyone’s socks off!”
“I have a feeling anything could go badly though, what if the mic packs don’t work or one of us doesn’t appear when we start playing, or- “
“Alex, chill out, this isn’t a second hotdog, and if it is we’ll eat it so it knows who’s boss!”
“Uh, Reggie, that’s how we died, I’m pretty sure the hotdog won.”
“Huh, yeah, that checks out.”
Julie and Y/N caught each other’s eyes and burst out laughing, “Can you guys stop having your little ghostie jokes, I’m trying to boast that I’m well on my way to being a famous manager to the She-Devil herself!”
“Well, now I’ve fulfilled my part of this mission I have to head off to my next mission, Agent Y/N is officially signing out.” Julie smiles and Flynn walks up, “It was great to have you on this mission, we wish you luck in your next. Stay safe Agent, we hope to see you again.” The three girls saluted each other before snickering while the boys stared at them in confusion. Y/N walked over to her bag and slung it over her shoulder, “I’ll see you guys later.” She pushed open the garage doors, waving goodbye one last time before walking out.
Y/N started walking down the path before a loud smashing sound caught her by surprise, “Wait!” A weird sensation spread over her hand, it was warm but cold and it made her skin tingle before she felt pressure replace the weird feeling and fingers curl around her hand. “How can I help you?” Y/N turned around, plastering her customer service smile onto her face.
“Leather Boy?”
She turned to see Reggie standing there completely frozen, holding onto her hand as though it were a lifeline. “Reggie? You okay?” Reggie shook his head slightly and smiled before looking down, a sheepish expression crossing his face, “Can I hug you? Please?” Y/N’s softened and smiled brightly, “Of course, Reg. Come here.” She reached up and looped her arms around his neck as he buried his face into her shoulder, “I don’t get many hugs, the guys don’t like them and I feel like it would be weird to ask Julie.”
“Well, you can hug me anytime…that sounds really weird.” Y/N chuckles as Reggie gazes at her in admiration, “So what did scream at me and- break a plant pot for?” Y/N peers behind Reggie and finds the origin of the smashing sound. “Uh, well I was going to just say goodbye but since we’re here would you mind if I came by the diner later?” Y/N smirked, “Can’t get enough of me?” Reggie grew flustered and turned his gaze to the floor, “Well- I like looking at the food but you being there is definitely a positive.” Y/N blinked, now it was her turn to be flustered, she didn’t expect him to just come out and say something like that.
“Right, yes, well, I’ll see you there then. Um, bye.”
“Yeah, yeah, goodbye.”

“Cal?” Y/N called out, looking around. So much for an early shift so she could leave early. If Cal wasn’t there then her shift didn’t start and that was the last thing she needed when she also had to do rounds and show him the tapes and – well, you get the idea. “Cal!”
“What are you looking for?”
Y/N frowned and turned around, her eyes narrowed and focusing in on a boy standing a few feet away from her. “Who are you? And why are you here, it’s not opening time yet.” She felt a growing unease settle in the pit of her stomach, where was Cal when you needed him? Hopefully, his amazing dramatic timing would kick in and she would be saved from the weird atmosphere.
“Oh, I’m here for Cal. But you may speak to him first.” The boy, which she had now deemed “Blondie”, then stepped back, lifting himself into a sitting position on one of the tables. “How extremely kind of you, Blondie.” Y/N rolled her eyes, sarcasm obviously dripping from her mouth, which the boy either didn’t catch or chose to ignore.
“Cal! If you’re just deciding to ignore me I will skin you alive!”
Y/N rolled her eyes at the silence, turning back to the boy only to find him slumped on the floor against the table leg. “Uh…Blondie? You alright there, bud?”
“He’ll be fine, Cal’s not in right now so go on your way.” Y/N turned to face the new voice, her eyes searching the badly lit room. Why hadn’t she turned on the light! Oh yeah, she was supposed to be the only one here with the exception of Cal.
The voice was deeper, more sinister but not menacing, not yet, “Okay, who are you and does no one realise that we’re closed? There’s a sign for a reason!”
Y/N narrowed her eyes at the lack of answer, “Okay, mystery shadow man, can I call you that?” “Well- “ “You know what, I don’t care I’m calling you it anyway. So, mystery shadow man, do you mind either explaining or leaving because I have a shift to start and Cal needs to be here before that starts and legally you can’t be here since we’re closed. Bye.” She made her way over to the side door and opened it wide, adding extra drama by flourishing her arm in the same direction, “Stop by some other time when we’re actually open.”
“Alright, but before I go, you’re welcome. I’ll be back soon enough.” A low and sinister chuckle filled the air as the man made his way over to the door, “Okay, Creepy McGee, that’s great and all but you still need to leave. Goodbye.” Y/N grabbed the man by what she could now discern as a purple cloak/overcoat and pushed him out of the door. “Have a great day, sir. I hope to see you at Le Paradis du Chanteur very soon, preferably during the times we’re open. Goodbye.” She plastered her customer service smile on her face before slamming the door in his face. What is it with some people and just going, ‘Restaurant? Give me food. I won’t pay or even look at the sign to see if it’s even open.’ They act like cavepeople.
Y/N’s eyes widened when she remembered the blonde boy still unconscious in the dining area. “Of course it’s today of all fucking days.” She grumbled under her breath as she raced back to where she left the boy.
“Blondie?”
.
.
.
“Okay, what the fuck is happening today? Where the hell did he go? And it’s only 6 in the morning…great.”
---
“Alright, fess up. Who put this in my pocket? And just so you know, it doesn’t even work.”
Julie knew who did it, it was obviously Reggie. He was the only one that was dumb enough, and Julie meant this in the nicest way, to believe that it could be any of the three boys that would ask her to call Y/N. If Julie hadn’t found it so funny she might have been slightly annoyed but the note beside the old, broken flip phone that her dad used before her mum forced a new one into his hands just made her smile, it was so innocent:
“Call Y/N because her voice is nice and pretty and I want to hear it.
-        The band :D”
Yeah, it was obvious, but making him spit it out was so much more entertaining. Reggie flushed and screwed up his face in thought, she wouldn’t catch him out if he said it was all of them, would she? No, he’d be fine.
“Well, who does it say it’s from?”
“ ‘The band’ “
“Then there’s your answer!”
“Reggie…I’m not stupid, just admit it was you.”
“…How did you figure it out?”
Julie rolled her eyes though a small smile played on her lips, “Who else would ask for Y/N because her, and I quote, “voice is pretty and I want to hear it.” Alex and Luke glanced at each other, before bursting out into laughter. Reggie gaze turned to the floor as his ears turned red, “I don’t know, probably a lot of people.”
“Sometimes I wonder why we keep you, then I remember we need a bassist.”
---
“Hey Cal! Calina! Calerella! Callie!”
“You know you could just come and find me instead of screaming a bunch of weird nicknames into the open air until I finally hear you.” Cal came out from the staff room and rolled his eyes at the sight of Y/N rocking back and forth on her heels whilst playing with a table cloth. “Oh I know, dear Cal, but this is so much more fun, don’t you think?” She grinned before summoning her serious business face, “Okay, here are my notes on all the performers we have, Julie and her himbos- I mean Julie and the Phantoms is first, I have the video on my phone too.”
She reached over to the table she was next to and lifted a pile of papers, all colour coded to the performer’s atmospheric colour (as she called it), and looking monstrously tall. “I’ll get started on that after we close. If you don’t mind staying behind, you know how much I need and value your input.” Y/N smiled at that, Cal was like her cool Uncle and it always made her happy to know how much he appreciated her. She walked to him, arms still full.
“Sure, old man. I’ll go put these in your office for later.” She nudged her shoulder against his, grinning as she did so, before walking out to the staff room.
---
“Alright, Callerina. I’ve given you all I have to offer, so I shall be heading home now. Plus, I’m not being paid for after-hours so, you know.” She shrugged, a grin easing onto her face. Cal looked up at her as she stood up, “My company is payment enough, obviously.” Y/N rolled her eyes and shifted her weight as she pulled her work bag onto her shoulder. “Sure, keep telling yourself that.” Cal gasped dramatically as Y/N walked to the door, “Listen here, missy, I’ll dock your pay if you don’t show me the respect I deserve!”
“No! Not my pay!” She leaned against the door frame, bringing a hand to rest on her forehead as she ‘fainted’. She caught Cal’s eyes and they both burst out laughing, definitely a cool Uncle and his favourite niece.
“Okay, see you later, Cal. Have a great night!” Y/N waved goodbye as she walked out the door, giving him one last smile. Cal sighed after the door had closed “I don’t what I’d do without that girl, honestly.”
.
.
.
“Hello, Cal. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Wh-who are you?”
“You don’t need to know that right now, just know we’ll be very close in the future.”
“The curtains haven’t closed on me yet, boys. I hope you’re prepared.”

Diner Gal - Reggie x Reader Part 6.5
Requested: It’s a series, there are no requests here!
Word count: 1,207
Warnings: Some sappy feelings stuff
Summary: Julie and the Phantoms ( + Flynn ) go to a musical diner/café/restaurant for inspiration and hopefully a future gig but they end up meeting a very special waitress.
Note: Okay, 6.5 here we go, sorry for the lateness, I have so many essays to do right now! To clear the dates up a little, they went to the diner on a Saturday, demo’d and had a Reggie moment on Sunday, the last part and this one are set on Monday. We have the whole rest of the week to go. I’ve never really written romance before, I usually do setting pieces but I’ll try to make it as good as possible. Enjoy!

Y/N sat there, her mouth slightly hung in awe. They really meant it when they said “go all out”, she was a sucker for music that meant something, especially to the artist and it was clear that it meant something to everyone there, perhaps a different something but something all the same. She shook off her awestruck freeze and finished up her notes.
A smile spread across Y/N’s face and she looked back up at the group, they chattered excitedly amongst each other. “Well, I think that might just hold up against the other performers.” She winked at them, a grin playing on her lips. “Hold up? We’ll do more than hold up, we’ll knock this out of the park, just watch!” Alex patted Luke’s arm, trying to calm him down; apparently when music came into play Luke’s only way of communicating was shouting excitedly. Y/N snapped her fingers next to her ear, “Okay, we’re good, I still have my hearing.” Julie looked at Luke pointedly, he rubbed his neck sheepishly “Sorry.”
Y/N shook her head, a smile spreading over her lips at their antics. She stood up, collecting her notes and paper and carefully slipping them into the purple folder, her fingers grazing against the papery surface as she places it on top of her pile. She bundles them all into her arms and sends a smile over to the group. “Well, that was absolutely amazing! And as much as I want to stay here and make you play over and over again I have to go and make notes on the highlighters, don’t worry though, next session I’ll have tips from Cal and we’ll be able to set it all up to be show-stopping!” Y/N grinned over the pile in her arms and Julie made her way over to the door, Y/N smiled in appreciation as Julie opened the door for her, “Thanks, Firecracker, don’t know what I’d do without you.” She turned to the boys and winked at them, “Don’t drive Julie too mad, I’ll see you himbos some other time.”
Julie walked Y/N to the gate, idly chatting about music, the performance details and other such things, they were just about to bid their final goodbyes when Y/N whirled around, remembering one final thing. “Hey, Firecracker, could you get your friend, Flynn, to give me a call. I’ll need your marketing team to help me make posters. If Cal likes them he might just steal her away from you.” She winks to which Julies laughs, “I’ll let her know, and I’d like to see him try, he can’t take her away that easily!”
The two girls chuckled together, Y/N looked down at her watch. “Oh shoot, I have to go or I’ll be late for the highlighter squad or whatever they’re actually called. I’ll see you soon, Miss Molina, and when I do we’re gon a make you and your boys stars.” She walked out of the gate, only turning her head slightly to smile at Julie before speedwalking to her destination.
---
“Hey! Hey! Hey, wait up!”
Y/N frowned slightly but kept walking, she had places to get to, people to coach and she didn’t even know if they were talking to her.
“Hey! Y/N! Stop for a second!”
Oh, nevermind, they did mean her. Y/N blew a stray hair out of her face and turned around, an eyebrow raised for whoever decided that she had all the time in the world and just needed to talk to them.
“You actually stopped! I mean, cool. I knew you couldn’t resist me.”
Leather Boy winked at her, a grin stretching across his face. Y/N rolled her eyes before reaching into her pocket to grab her phone, whilst simultaneously trying to balance her pile of folders in the crook of her other arm.
“Wait- what are you doing? I just wanted to talk-“
“Hi, Leather Boy, thanks for calling, what can I do you for?” Y/N smiled down at the ground, before looking up at him. She felt a bit awkward, but he seemed fine, maybe he forgot about their impromptu dance/singing fun.
“I was hoping to walk a lovely lady to her next rehearsal,” Reggie smirked, holding his head high. Then his eyes widened slightly, “But of course I don’t have to if you don’t want to because I get I can be- well. Nevermind, I’ll just go. See you around, Diner Gal.”
“Hey, wait! I don’t mind- I mean, you can walk with me…if you want. Also, Diner Gal?” Reggie picked at the skin next to his fingernails, bashfully averting his gaze as Y/N looked at him, highly amused. “Well, because you work at a diner and I like diners and food and you, so I thought it would be cool,” He looked up again, catching her gaze, a smirk finding it’s way onto his face. Her face felt warm, she knew he didn’t mean it like that but it was still nice to hear. “Plus, you call me Leather Boy and I don’t complain so I get to give you a nickname too, so there!”
Y/N laughed at his antics, a childlike proud innocence dawned his features making her smile wider. “Well, good sir clad in leather, if you would be so kind as to escort me to my destination.” She stood up straight (which actually helped balance her folders better) and pulled face, making her voice as posh as she could. “It would be my honour, my fair lady.” He mimicked her stance, making her look down, biting her lip to keep from bursting out into laughter.
“So, I’m gonna be honest, I have been told to pry information from you. Are we the best band playing or are we the best band playing? Because I know that we are, but do you know? Does everyone else know?” Y/N snorted before composing herself and looking up at him, “Okay, the arrogance is through the roof but you guys do just so happen to be my favourite performers, but Hummus comes up second. The Highlighters aren’t too shabby either, they just have outfits that make my eyes bleed.” Reggie chuckled, making the blood rush to her cheeks. She liked his smile and his laugh was music to her ears. Y/N shook her head and sped up her walking, glancing down at her watch and back up.
“Hey, wait for me!”
---
Y/N clutched onto her folders with one arm and held her phone up to her ear with the other, she was simply trying not to drop everything whilst laughing with Reggie. Their laughter faded out as they came to a stop in the wake of a giant mansion. Y/N sighs and turns to Reggie, “Well, that went quickly. Uh, thanks for walking with me, it was fun.”
“Oh, yeah, no problem. Is this it? The place, this is it?” Y/N sighed, a tired smile playing on her lips, “Sure is, I gotta go in, the Highlighters are waiting for me. I’ll see you next time, Leather Boy.”
She sent a smile his way before putting her phone in her pocket and walking over to the gate and pressed the buzzer. Reggie smiled to himself, “See you later, Diner Gal.”

Y/N sped along the sidewalk, desperately clutching a stack of papers, binders and folder to her chest. One purple folder sat on top, empty. Her head was cocked to one side, holding her phone in place as she chatted with Cal about the lineup. They’d found another band that had pestered Cal until he agreed and a couple of solo or duet acts.
Who knew basically managing a bunch of different people every week before saying goodbye on Friday evening would be so stressful? Y/N. Y/N did. She tried to keep track of groups through nicknames, each uniquely for that act. For example, the group that had pestered Cal were dubbed the Highlighters. Hummus was the guy who had 4 tubs of hummus a day, pretty self-explanatory. And the group she was now practically sprinting to meet on time was christened Julie and the Himbos. Of course, she had nicknames for the individuals in each group but as a whole, they had their names. The nicknames for Julie’s group were Firecracker, Lover Boy, Boomer and Leather Boy. She put thought into each nickname otherwise they might as well be non-existent, Julie was Firecracker because she had the spark and lit up the room like a firecracker, Lover Boy was obviously whipped for Julie, Alex reminded her of her favourite RowdyRuff boy and also he played the drums (Boom Boom) and Leather Boy just fit perfectly.
Y/N leant against the wall, quickly trying to catch her breath from the sprint over. She had arrived and wanted to at least look a little more professional than a girl being late and playing dress-up. She may be young but Y/N was worth taking seriously, at least when she was working she was. She straightened up and tried to help the pile of folders and paper regain a balanced form. Walking to the front door.
Y/N realised the dilemma she faced, how to knock on the door, or ring the doorbell. Blowing a piece of hair out her face, she decided that since banging her head on the door wasn’t particularly an option that kicking it lightly with her foot would suffice. A few ‘knocks’ later and a kicks later a kid Y/N didn’t recognise appeared in the doorway, “You must be the waitress lady Julie was waiting for, her band get everyone in high spirits.” He winks, laughing at his pun, “I’m Carlos, I’m somewhat of a ghost hunter around these parts.” Y/N smiled awkwardly, “Uh, okay. Would you mind showing me the way to where she is?” Carlos stepped out, closing the door behind him and walked to the gate, Y/N trailing behind him trying to keep her stack balanced. “Just through here, they’re in the garage.” She smiled, “Thanks, little man, I appreciate it. See you when I see you.” Y/N walked over to the garage door, once again faced with her favourite dilemma.
She ‘knocked’ again, a hurried “Coming!” and loud shuffling came from within before the door flew right open revealing a frazzled Julie.
“Hey, Y/N.”
“Hey, Firecracker. Can I come in?”
“Firecracker? You know what I don’t need to know, and, uh, sure.”
“Thanks.” Y/N walked inside and stood awkwardly by the sofa. “That’s a lot of folders, do you like art?” She turned to see Reggie looking over her shoulder. “Oh, no, this is just all the info we have on all of the acts for Friday. The folder for you guys is the purple one on top. Julie, where can I put these, my arms are killing me.”
“Oh, over there.” Julie pointed to a coffee table settled comfortably next to the sofa, “Thanks, firecracker.”
“Fire- huh?”
“Do we all get nicknames? ‘Cause I’m feeling a little left out.”
“Stop talking, it’s serious band time.”
“Okay…so, anyway, have you decided what song you’ll be doing? Or will you be sticking with the song you demo’d for us?” The bandmates looked at each other, silently communicating, “We’ve decided that we want to do Stand Tall, it’s a song that showcases everyone’s talent. We figured if we were going to try and get a manager and with you helping us without getting anything in return then we should go all out.” Julie explained, a smile growing on her face as she positioned herself behind her keyboard.
“We played this at the Orpheum not too long ago so we thought-“ “-more like I thought and then told you.” “-Right, Julie thought that this song could be our good luck charm and anthem-“ “-Plus, it’s partly written by my mom so it makes it even more special.” “-Exactly, so yeah.” Julie and Luke smiled at each other, their finishing each other’s sentences and adding details was adorably sickening.
Y/N sat there slightly shocked, “You performed at the Orpheum? And you still wanna perform at our little diner?” Julie rolled her eyes and stared at her with an eyebrow raised, “Your so-called ‘little diner’ is legendary and on Friday’s it’s literally the best place on Earth to find your way into a real music career!”
“Aw, you read up on us? I feel so loved. Anyway, I need to hear it and write notes on it so Cal can give you pointers, is it alright if you video it too?”
“Sure thing, it’ll help us in the long run anyway.”
Y/N smiled, sitting down on the sofa, the purple folder nestled in her lap with paper resting atop where she would write her notes. Julie placed her phone on the coffee table, propped up against a vase of flowers. Y/N leant forward, as Julie went back to her position, and hit record.

Diner Gal - Reggie x Reader Part 5
Requested: It’s a series, there are no requests here!
Word count: 1,512
Warnings: Swearing
Summary: Julie and the Phantoms ( + Flynn ) go to a musical diner/café/restaurant for inspiration and hopefully a future gig but they end up meeting a very special waitress.
Note: I promised more Reggie and I deliver, sis! You’re welcome! (This is basically just Reggie moments because yes please, once again you’re welcome). This is a slight filler chapter but I also needed to flesh out and establish a connection between you and Reggie (also because I need more Reggie so-) Also, yes we’re doing Breaking Free, I used the HSMTMTS ver. because it just fits better, starting at 0:42 :)

Y/N was nervous, like “I’m gonna have a panic attack but not actually, I’m just being kinda dramatic but-“ sort of nervous. The kind of nervous you get when you see a random car driving slowly and your brain goes “They’re waiting to kidnap you and then chop up your body and sell it on the black market” even though they’re just trying to find a relative’s new house. It was 11:00 pm and Y/N had to lock up after staying behind to clean and get everything ready for the next day, the practice room for performers, the display cabinets, putting the chairs up, you name it she did it. Even though she had done the auditions with Cal she still had a shift after that left her here, cleaning and terrified until she could leave.
Y/N always hated having the final shift and having to lock up, usually, they did it in pairs for safety reasons but Noelle had to go home early that day and no one was that eager to stay behind so it ended in Y/N offering to stay behind alone.
Was she an idiot? Probably. Was she going to die or get kidnapped? Highly likely. But was she going to stay because she told Cal she would in order not to be a bother? Obviously.
BANG!
Y/N whipped her head around, bringing her arms up in a defensive stance. Her eyes darted from side to side but caught nothing. She grabbed a glass vase from the centre of a nearby table, it was a shit weapon but a weapon nonetheless. She held it up defensively, “If there’s someone over there I hope you don’t mind having me smash glass over your head.” Okay, well that threat could’ve been better but it’ll make do, Y/N started walking towards where she heard the noise.
Nothing. She looked around, standing on her tiptoes to see over tables, bending her knees to look under them too. Still nothing. Y/N sighed and brought the raised glass down to her side, “Well done, Y/N. You’re so paranoid you’re hearing things.” She mumbled to herself, collapsing on a nearby chair.
“What things are you hearing? I might be able to hear them too!”
Y/N bolted out of the chair, clutching the glass to her chest. She turned around, holding out her glass like a weapon. She sees a figure pop into her vision, standing just shy of the light. She screams and throws the glass at the figure, her brain screaming at her for throwing away her weapon away, smashing it in the process. And it didn’t even hit the person.
“Well that wasn’t very nice, you would’ve hit me if I wasn’t a ghost!”
Y/N did a double-take when a cheerful-looking Reggie stepped into the light, she sighed before looking at the glass in disdain, now she had to clean that up. “You can’t do that! I was about to have a heart attack, and I wanted to at least get somewhere in life before that happens.” She jokes, trying to ease her still rapid heart rate.
“You are already are somewhere in life! Your voice reaches people here and touches their hearts, that song you did the other day had everyone in tears.” Reggie walks toward her, his arm gestures increasing as he tries to explain his point, Y/N was surprised and more than a little flattered that he seemed to have so much passion toward her talents. Or maybe he was just like that in general, she didn’t know him all that well. It had only been a day or so since they had met, it was small but it meant the world to her for an almost stranger to see that in her.
“Oh! And I’m sorry for scaring you, I keep forgetting that we’re not invisible to you and also that we are invisible to everyone, it’s kinda weird. I mean, no that I’m not grateful, because I am, but I just wonder what is happening sometimes. I’m only able to follow a train of thought for so long before I get distracted and start going on and on…and on…and on about it for ages.”
Y/N blinked at him in slight surprise, he sure could talk. “And now there’s an awkward silence and when that happens I just jeep talking more, kinda hoping that someone else will speak too. It might be a coping mechanism, not sure, never had the time to think or ask about it. Maybe I should…”
Y/N smiled, it was kinda funny and very sweet how he filled the silence in, she liked his company. “It’s fine, I’ll just get a dustpan and brush for the, you know, glass pieces. So, uh, wait here and I’ll be right back.” She turned slightly before looking back and sending him a smile, he returned it and she quickly walked away into the kitchen.
Y/N later came back, dustpan and brush in one hand and a torch in the other since it was now after hours the lights were meant to be off as much as possible. She walked over to the smashes glass, turned on her torch and placed it on the ground. She kneeled beside and started sweeping the glass into the pan.
Reggie stood there looking at her, a small smile on his face. If he had been back at his parent's house there definitely would’ve been an attempted scolding which would somehow turn into a screaming match between the parents. He had always liked the peacefulness of silence, despite being in a rock band when he was alive and now being in a band with Julie. Despite his himbo demeanour he had more to him, he liked to just sit and think, maybe write a song if he felt like it. Silence gave him the chance to just be without the pressure or stress of anything else attached.
“Have you caught up on anything since you died? Like, movies or-“
Reggie caught the girls awkward attempt at conversation and pushed down a chuckle, “Yeah, by the way, what’s a Jar Jar? Why did they add that? No one will tell me what it is!” Y/N burst out laughing, fishing her phone out of her apron pocket. She pulls up her browser and searches for a picture, “Here,” She shows him her phones as she scrolls through the pictures, “This is Jar Jar.” She glanced up at his horrified expression and had to bite back her giggles.
“What is that!” Reggie whined and pouted, like a little kid and it just made Y/N want to laugh even more. “Oh! Julie showed us High School Musical! Alex won’t stop quoting Sharpay…”
Y/N smiled softly, “I wouldn’t stop watching those movies when I was younger.”
Y/N stands up with the dustpan in her hand and walks over to the bin, singing quietly, remembering the tune and smiling.
You know the world can see us
In a way that’s different than who we are
Creating space between us
‘Til we’re separate hearts
Reggie looks at her, a smile breaking out on his face. He walks towards here, joining in making her turn around and watch him, still singing.
But your faith, it gives me strength
Strength to believe
We’re breaking free!
Y/N sets the dustpan down on a nearby table as she skips around a table, smiling and looking into his eyes as they sing to each other.
We’re soaring
Flying
There’s not a star in heaven that we can't reach
If we’re trying
Yeah, we’re breaking free
Oh, we’re breaking free
Ooh
Y/N danced around the tables in a circle around Reggie as he watched her, a large, bright smile on both of their faces. A childish glee igniting in both of them.
More than hope
More than faith
This is true
This is fate
And together we see it coming
More than you
More than me
Not a want, but a need
Both of us, breaking free
They both struck poses on their respective lines, before breaking into giggles whilst still trying to sing. The light bounced off of their dancing figures, silhouettes behind curtains to the rest of the world or any who were watching.
Soaring
Flying
There’s not a star in heaven that we can’t reach
If we’re trying, yeah, we’re breaking free
We're running, ooh climbing
To get to the place to be all that we can be (Be)
Now's the time (Now's the time)
So we're breakin' free (Oh, we're breaking free)
Their joyful dancing slowing down as their singing and they came closer together, staring into each other’s eyes, their smiles turning softer,
You know the world can see us
In a way that’s different than who we are.
Y/N looked up into his eyes as he looks down into hers. Reggie reaches out his hand to hold hers but it just goes through, sending a not so pleasant shiver down her spine. He panicked and poofed out leaving a confused and slightly hurt Y/N behind.
What the hell just happened?

Stop Erasing Alex’s Sexuality Dude
Okay, hi, hey, can we stop erasing Alex’s sexuality for a whole minute?
He is gay, not bi, not pan, not omni. He is stated as gay (Episode 2, during the beach scene), he is canonically gay. Why do people think this is okay? And saying that it’s fine because it’s just a fanfic is objectively worse, don’t encourage this behaviour.
The fact that I even have to say this astounds me. Reassigning a canonically gay character’s sexuality is homophobia, impartial or not.
It’s okay to make mistakes, however, researching and educating yourself can help you prevent making those mistakes. Good writing is also not and excuse for this, I don’t care if you’re the most talented author in the world if you’re using your talent to spread misguided messages (intentional or not) then you need to educate yourself.
Saying someone who is straight is made out to be gay in fanfics is mostly false, most ‘straight’ characters aren’t even officially straight, because they never had to announce it. Heteronormativity is everywhere, to say people are ‘shoving it down your throats’ is hypocritical because in most media all I see is a cis-het main couple. If a character is stated as straight then that’s fine, fair enough. They shouldn’t have their sexuality changed either, no double standards here. But unless they are then there is free reign in my opinion.
Same with any other character, take Luke, he isn’t stated canonically as straight so people have started to interpret him as pan or Reggie, he isn’t stated as straight so people are interpreting his character as bi.
If this came across as aggressive I’m sorry but I needed to say this. I’m not sure who needed to hear this but please, educate yourself and others around you. We don’t need more hate in the world, there’s enough. Accept and respect others as they are and they will surely accept and respect you.
Message me if you ever need anything or want to talk, I’ll be here. New part of the Reggie series will be out soon. Let’s try to end on a high note :’)

Also, can I just thank and say hello to @i-should-be-writing-my-own-fic, all of your comments and reblogs are so sweet, you’re amazing! “Alex, stop pacing! Reggie- what- what are you doing?”
“Practicing my bass.”
“In mid-air…….without your bass?”
“It’s called an air bass, if I’m made out of air my bass can be too.”
“Okay, you do that.” Julie grabbed her keyboard stand, standing in the garage doorway, “Luke make your bandmates calm down, I have to take this out to the car.” Without an answer, Julie stumbled out of the garage towards where her dad and the car were waiting.
Luke scribbled in his notebook, without looking up, “You guys need to chill out, as long as we’re all together we’ll rock so hard there’s no way Cal will say no!” Reggie smiles and points a finger at him, “Plus, Y/N will be there, she’ll be able to convince Cal for us.” He adds as Julie jogs back in, “Okay we should be good to go as you guys can all poof in your instruments. You guys should get ready to leave.”
“Alright, but let me finish this line. I am in the zone.” Luke scribbled some final words on his notebook pages before looking up, “Alex, get off the runway, you’re gonna fall over the table or something.”
“But what if he says no and not even Y/N can convince him? I mean, what if- what if he has other bands in mind and just said yes to Y/N because she works there? What if we play and completely mess it up!?” Luke deadpans Alex as his bandmate starts shaking his hands up and down, his pacing increasing.
Luke rolls his eyes, standing up and holding Alex by his shoulders, “Chill, we’re gonna be fine. We’re gonna do amazing, like we usually do.”
“Guys, we need to go. Like, now. So, hurry up, move it!”
---
“So, Cal, my good buddy, my favourite boss, um...would it be alright, and remember that I’ve been a faithful worker for such a long time, would it be alright if I skipped every other audition apart from Julie and her band’s?” Y/N dragged out, her voice rising in pitch, trying to convince Cal with her best puppy eyes whilst he stared back at her with a deadpan expression.
“No, sit down. We have some performers to listen to.” She sighed and sat down in the chair next to him, putting her elbows on the desk in front of them, “I saw that coming…” she leaned her cheek against her palm as Cal chuckled at her, “And yet you always ask.”
“One day…one day I successfully skip this bullshit, mark my words.”
“Sure, sugar-pie. Now stop your grumbling, our first performer comes in 2 minutes.”

I want your love, and I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance
I want your love and all your lover’s revenge
You and me could write a bad romance
Oh oh oh oh oooh-
The poor girl’s voice broke. Y/N could see it coming, her vowel technique needed a bit more work but the girl was obviously passionate, this would crush her ego.
“You can stop now, we’ve heard enough. We’ll let you know.
Y/N winced, Cal could seem really cold at times however the warm smile he gave every performer at the end of his mantra definitely helped ease any hurt they may or may not feel.
“I can’t wait to perform here, I know you’ll make the best choice. I’ll see you on Friday.”
Maybe this wouldn’t crush her ego, after all, it seemed the thing was infinite. The girl walked out, her high heels clicking on the floor as Cal sighed. She knew why, when auditions were open to anyone who could arrive on time it was hard to find people who had that spark when performing. It doesn’t matter how good your voice is if you’re boring to watch then you might as well not show up.
Friday’s were important, they were a chance for anyone to get on stage and become an overnight sensation. But it got complicated when there were so many people that they had to pick and choose. That’s why they tried to get as many people as possible to perform, everyone deserved a chance to live out their dreams.
“Alright, I’ll grab our next victims. See you in a sec.” Y/N stood up, her chair scraping on the floor as Cal rolls his eyes, “Try to make it not sound like we’re about to murder everyone.” She chuckles, “Sure, I can try but I can’t promise it will happen.”
Y/N walked out of the door and into the ‘waiting area’, this happened every month and yet she never got used to how tedious it was. She picked up the waiting list and scanned the names, “Yulie and the- uh, the atoms? Anton's? Uh, come on through.” She put down the list and walked out, only hearing a chorus of male voices, “Again? Really?” “None of us are even called Anton!” and an awkward laugh from a female voice.
She sat back down in her chair and turned to Cal, “One Yulie and the Anton’s coming or up, or atoms, I’m not quite sure.” Cal started laughing, “Sounds fun, maybe we’ll get some science jokes.” Y/N started laughing too, “As long as it’s not physics I think I’ll be fine.”
The door opened up and four familiar faces walked in, all looking slightly sheepish. “Hi, sorry, it’s actually Julie and the Phantoms. Sorry if we’re late at all, we didn’t really know what time to come.” Cal raised an eyebrow and Y/N chuckled,  “That would be my fault, I never got round to giving them a time. This is the band I was telling you about,” She turned to Julie, “Sorry, I completely forgot the name and the writing, no offence, didn’t particularly help me out.” Luke grimaced at her words as Julie started laughing, “Yeah, I’m thinking I’ll get someone else to sign us up to things in the future.”
Cal coughed to gain our attention, “As much as I love this friendliness we don’t have all day, we have all of your kit here, our guys brought it in earlier. What will you be playing for us today?”
“Oh, uh we’ll we playing a song called Edge of Great. We hope you like it.” Y/N smiled at Julie and Cal nodded, pen at the ready. She hoped for the life of her that they were actually good or Cal would never trust her judgement again.
Running from the past
Tripping on the now
What is lost can be found, it's obvious
And like a rubber ball
We come bouncing back
We all got a second act, inside of us
Julie sat at her keyboard, her finger dancing over the keys. She seemed lost in the music and it was obvious how passionate she was, it made even Cal, the ever poker-faced, break out in a small smile. Julie moves to the middle of the performing area, as the beat drops the boys appear causing Cal to double-take in surprise, Y/N snickers in response.
I believe
I believe that we're just one dream
Away from who we're meant to be
That we're standing on the edge of
Something big, something crazy
Our best days are yet unknown
That this moment is ours to own
Y/N nodded her head and tapped her feet to the rhythm, her smile grew wider and wider, Cal would never doubt her again and she got to listen to a killer band, today was looking up.
'Cause we're standing on the edge of great
(On the edge of great) Great
(On the edge of great) Great
(On the edge of great)
'Cause we're standing on the edge of great
Luke kept sending glances toward Julie as she was dancing in between them all, the stage presence was amazing. They were definitely at the top of Y/N’s list of potential performers.
We all make mistakes
But they're just stepping stones
To take us where we wanna go
It's never straight, no
Sometimes we gotta lean
Lean on someone else
To get a little help
Until we find our way
Luke and Julie gravitate towards each other, their excited smiles growing soft and caring; the chemistry was definitely a plus, it was incredible to watch, like watching history unfold. The two share a microphone as they sing the chorus, Reggie and Alex share a look and Y/N smiles, not even Cal could find a fault in their performance.
I believe
I believe that we're just one dream
Away from who we're meant to be
That we're standing on the edge of
Something big, something crazy
Our best days are yet unknown
That this moment is ours to own
Y/N started dancing in her seat whilst Cal laughed. She then had a brilliant idea, she stood up and tried to pull Cal up to dance with her. While he refused and tried his best to stay down, his efforts were almost futile against his laughing and Y/N’s upward pull on him.
'Cause we're standing on the edge of great
(On the edge of great) Great
(On the edge of great) Great
(On the edge of great)
'Cause we're standing on the edge of...
Luke went back to his mic and Julie came over to Y/N, she smiled brightly and they danced around together. They both felt like they had made a firm friend, the fun dance they shared confirmed that feeling, neither could have felt happier at that moment, they were lost in the music and everyone around could see it.
Shout, shout
C'mon and let it out, out
Don't gotta hide it
Let your colours blind their eyes
Be who you are no compromise
Just shout, shout
C'mon and let it out, out
What doesn't kill you makes you feel alive
Y/N moved back from Julie and sat back down, her smile still evident. Cal laughed at her and she pushed him with her shoulder. Julie turned to Luke as he moved toward her, the heart eyes were back.
Ooh-oh
I believe
I believe that we're just one dream
Away from who we're meant to be
That we're standing on the edge of great
Reggie and Alex joined Luke in singing the chorus as Julie continued her high belt which left Cal in slight shock and Y/N almost jumping and screaming in support and excitement.
Something big, something crazy
Our best days are yet unknown
That this moment is ours to own
Y/N smiled at Alex when he looked up, he beamed right back and continued singing and drumming with a passion that shined through everything else. She looked over to Reggie and sent a smile his way too. He winked at her and chuckled when she rolled her eyes playfully at him, though her smile widened in response.
'Cause we're standing on the edge of great
(On the edge of great) On the edge of great
(Great, on the edge of great) On the edge
(Great, on the edge of great)
'Cause we're standing on the edge of...
Julie went back to her keyboard and slipped her mic into the holder, Luke went over and looked her in the eyes as they sang to each other. The chemistry was off the charts!
Running from the past
Tripping on the now
What is lost can be found, it's obvious
When they finished and the boys disappeared Cal just sat there speechless, Y/N pushed his shoulder before giving them a standing ovation. “That was amazing!” She turned to Cal who was still seated, now thinking over what he just watched, “Oh come on, stand up, clap, stop pretending to be professional we both know you’re not! Book the band and we’ll have them for our last set, we’ll go out with a bang.” Cal still looked unsure, “I don’t know, what if-“ “Okay, no.” Y/N turned to Julie, “You’re our last performance on Friday. We have rehearsals every other day to check up on you, if you let me know where we can do it at a place of your choice. Your soundcheck will be at 2pm on Friday. Don’t miss it. Once again, you’re our closing act so you’re welcome to stay or go at any time between you soundcheck and your performance. We’ll let you know your performance time when we figure out the rest of the performance schedule. Thank you guys for coming, it was amazing, you’re definitely going places.”
Cal stared at her, his jaw slack in surprise, until he shook himself out of it and stood up, going to ask Y/N what she was doing, “What- you can’t just- we need to think about this.” She turned to him and deadpanned, “We both know you were gonna book them anyway, I’m doing you a favour, even you couldn’t help but smile.” Y/N turned back to the group, “Once again, thank you for coming. Ask the front desk for my info, give me a call by tomorrow to sort out a rehearsal time and space.”
Julie smiled widely, her chest starting to warm with a familiar jittery feeling of excitement, “Thank you! Thank you so much! I’ll definitely let you know as soon as I can.” Y/N laughed, “Don’t sweat it, someone needs to make decisions for Cal when he goes brain dead.”
“Hey! I’m still your boss!”
“I might as well be yours at this point” She shouted back without turning her head, causing a chuckle from Julie. She tried not to acknowledge the boys because if what they were saying was true, it seemed to be looking that way, she didn’t want to appear clinically insane to the public eye.
The boys themselves, however, didn’t really have much to add to the interaction. They were just standing there, slightly shocked by how assertive Y/N was when she was passionate about something. Reggie just stared at her, a slight smile spreading across his face.
“Okay, we still have some more performances to listen to but it was great meeting you and I guess you’re our final act now so welcome, whilst you’re with us you are our family so relax. As you can see, our dynamic isn’t the most professional so rules aren’t always completely followed to the letter.” Cal joined them, a smile back on his face. He put his hand on Y/N’s shoulder and they smiled at each other, “This one over here basically runs the place so go to her for anything and everything. I can’t wait to see your performance, good luck.” He turned and walked out into the ‘waiting area’ to find the next performer
“Well, it’s been a blast, I’ll see you next time.” Julie smiled at Y/N and then the boys poofed out, making Y/N jump and stare at the empty space left behind, “I’m not even going to ask…oh! Also, please tell leather boy to stop staring at me, or at least ask why?”
“Oh, sure, I’ll ask him what’s up. I’ll call you as soon as I can, see you soon.”
“Goodbyyyeee!”

Y/N walked into the room to find a sniffling Sam and Flynn, sobbing boys and a tearful yet done-with-the-boys-bullshit Julie. “Uh, you guys okay?” She turned to Sam with a sigh, an exasperated already painted on her face. “What did you do? I leave you alone with guests for 5 minutes! How?”
“That was beautiful, sing it again!” Sam staggers over to Y/N and yanks her toward them by her shoulders, sniffing whilst giving her puppy eyes. “No, you big baby, and besides you’ve got a customer waiting,” She gestured to the door, “Out!”
“Meanie…” Sam pouted before walking out, making sure to drag their feet and look at Y/N with their puppy eyes the whole time. She glared them out of the door, before turning the group of tearful teenagers. “Alright, enough crying it’s time to explain.” Y/N turned and sat on a chair opposite the couch, the group just standing, not knowing what to do, “Some time today would be nice.” A slight laugh escaped her.
The two girls sat on the sofa whilst the boys sat around, an awkward silence ensued. “So…uh, you gonna explain or?” Y/N trailed off, eyebrows raised.
“Uh-“
“Well the thing is-“
“Where do we start, well my mom gave birth to me-“
“Guys, chill.” Julie turned to me, trying to stay calm but the crease in her brow said otherwise, “These guys are ghosts, they died in 1995. Uh, people can only see them when they play music…with me. Otherwise, they’re just floating music. I can see them, probably because I summoned them but no else, not even Flynn, can see them…apart from you.” She chuckled awkwardly, while Y/N just stared, nodding her head slightly.
“Okay, so do you have any pills you need to take? A therapist? Mental institute? Do you need any assistance?” She turned to Flynn, “Are- are you okay too? Does she need first aid or- you know what? Sure, okay.” Y/N’s slightly confused and slightly panicked suggestions petering out as she takes in the information.
“Are you okay?” Alex asks, his brow furrowing. “Perfectly. So you’re telling me, that these 3 people in front of me are dead and that no one else can see them. You know how that sounds, right? It sounds-“ “Insane, yeah, we know.” Luke interrupts, obviously impatient, “Can you get us a gig here or not?”
“Luke! Chill out, you’re getting aggro.”
“Willie?”
“…Yeah.”
Y/N shook her head and looked up at the group, her gaze turned to Julie and she smiled slightly, “Well, let me see what I can do for you and your ghostly pals. I’ll grab Cal for ya, when do you think you could play for us and can you bring your stuff over here to play?” The group turned to each other, bright smiles on their faces.
“Uh, yeah, we can bring our stuff over and we’re free anytime.”
“Anytime you need us…anytime at all”
“Luke- she gets it” Alex sighed. Y/N looked over at Reggie who had been quiet pretty much the whole time. The sight of him just staring at the break room’s coffee table, specifically, the black notebook sitting on its surface, a pen laid on top of it. It had been her mother’s but now it belonged to her, she didn’t see what was so interesting about the cover but to each their own. He suddenly looked up and their gazes met. He offered a smile which she couldn’t help but return.
“Well, if you can leave me some contact info so I can call you back here for our demo that would be perfect.” She tore her gaze away from leather jacket boy to address the whole group, “Cal will want to meet you before you leave, I’ll grab him for you. Stay here, don’t break anything..” Y/N stood up and walked out of the door; as soon as the door shut Flynn and Julie got up and started dancing around, squealing as quietly as they could. The guys started high fiving each other and slapping each other’s backs.
---
“Cal!”
“…”
“Cal! Get your whole self out here I need to talk to you.”
“Okay, okay. Calm down, I’m coming.”
Y/N blew some baby hairs out of her face and leaned against the kitchen counter. The staff around her were used to the unorthodox way the waitress and the manager interacted, none of their relationships were in the slightest bit professional, more like a family.
Cal walked into the room, his red face glistening in sweat, “Alright, you got me, now what do you want? I’ve got orders piling up and I still need to find some entertainment for Friday.” Y/N smiled at him, ready to bring out the puppy eyes if necessary, “I can solve your entertainment problem. I’ve got a band who wants to play here, they’re free to play a demo for you at any time. What do you say?”
Cal raised an eyebrow and wiped the sweat on his brow, “Really? I’m busy right now but can you tell them to come round tomorrow? We’re closed in the afternoon to install a new oven so it should be the best time for them to play here.” Y/N nods, her smile growing, “Thanks, Cal. I’ll let them know. You’re the best!” She said, walking out of the kitchen.
She walked over to the door, waiting outside for a second to adjust herself, and rid the smile from her face. Afterall, Y/N is a performer, might as well utilise those acting skills.
She walked into the room somberly, her gaze on the floor before she finally looks up at the group. The hope and excitement was evident in their eyes, she almost couldn’t bring herself to do it. Almost.
“So, what did he say?”
“Did he say yes?”
“Should I bring extra jackets?”
“Did he say when? What do we do?”
“Should I make flyers? I am the whole marketing team so-“
“Guys! Let her talk!”
Y/N smiled at Julie slightly before letting out a sigh, “He, uh- I’m sorry. I-“
“Oh my god, he said no?”
“Wait, why?”
“Who cares why we shouldn’t have asked in the first place, we should just play for him anyway.”
“Pump your breaks, Rockstar. This isn’t like it was when I was trying to get back into the program.”
“Well, this sucks.”
At that point, Y/N burst out laughing causing the group to stare at her in confusion. “You guys are too easy. He said yes, come back tomorrow afternoon. Bring everything you can. We have a drum kit here so don’t worry about that.”
“Oh.”
“Sorry-“
“We knew that. We were just getting you back.”
Y/N rolled her eyes, her smile widening. “Sure. Anyway, I’m looking forward to hearing you play.” Reggie raised a brow in surprise, “I thought you said Cal and a few performers? Why would you be there?” Alex turned to him, the look on his face was incredulous, “Have you not been listening to anything that’s been happening? She literally is a performer.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot about that.”
Y/N laughed and turned to Flynn, “You know, we usually have some staff make flyers and advertise the bands that are performing here but if they get in do you think you could? You know their brand better than we do.” Flynn smiled brightly, she sometimes felt left out of the band stuff, not being able to ¾ of the group and all. “I’d love to, I am the marketing team and self-appointed manager so it’s part of my job description.”
Julie laughed, “Self-appointed maybe but you’re the one finding us most of our gigs so I think it’s pretty official at this point.” Y/N smiled, “Well, I’ve been away from work for a bit too long. I hope you can let yourselves out. If you need anything Sam will be your person. I hope you enjoyed your time here and I’ll see you tomorrow.” She got up and headed to the door for the final time.
“I’ll be seeing you guys soon, make it perfect and blow my mind.”
