HOMESICK
The earth calls me home. There must be a final paragraph to this story, or I shall remain an open wound in search of tourniquet, immigrant in search of belonging.
I need to know I touched the soil once more before bidding it a final farewell. It will not be the same me that returns.

BUILT FROM SCRATCH
I have been wondering, wandering— what is the difference?
My reflection is blank when night falls. I don't want to be anywhere, but I want to be everywhere. I run out of people to blame, excuses to cower behind. My soul is sluggish, dragged behind a hollow body.
Nobody chaperones the car crash before it happens. It's too late to look away. Before everything explodes, at least I know everything happened by my hand.
My downfall is custom-made, built from scratch. No one can take that away from me.

“Disoriented and displaced, I grasp any remnant of hope that dares find its way into my fingers. There are a hundred different names for this chaos, yet I look past the harrowing confusion. All I am focused on pronouncing is freedom. Choice. Endless possibility. How blessed I am, to possess a compass that waits for me to make the first move.”

“The bottom line is this: You write in order to change the world, knowing perfectly well that you probably can’t, but also knowing that literature is indispensable to the world. The world changes according to the way people see it, and if you alter, even by a millimeter, the way people look at reality, then you can change it…If there is no moral question, there is no reason to write. I’m an old-fashioned writer and, despite the odds, I want to change the world”

THE ELEMENTS CANNOT HELP ME
Did I request that the ocean engulf me? I do not recall weeping to the birds. The sky knows of my tears all too well. Nature has been the arms around me when I could not find them anywhere else, and yet they are not enough.
Little does anyone know that the birds look away and pretend they don't see me. The ocean makes it appear like I'm waving, not drowning. The sky's thunder silences my throat.
Where do I turn when even the elements cannot help me? Am I inconsolable?

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
You say 'happy mother’s day'. I say show me the happiness, because the mothers of Gaza can’t taste it, can’t touch it, can’t see it beneath the piles of decomposing children left to rot, robbed of life and dignity alike.
Don’t send them your empty wishes. Send flour, send hospital supplies, send an end to the massacre,
send God Himself.
