So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????

I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.

Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

I hate this trendy new narrative of "you shouldn't burden your friends, you shouldn't ask for their help, friends aren't therapists" etc, I hate it so much. friendship is not just about going out and laughing and having fun at all times and never mentioning anything sad or difficult about your life. intimacy is a burden, intimacy is not just about the good bit where you know what someone is thinking with just a glance and then bursting into laughter or being able to finish their sentences and knowing exactly what to get them on every birthday. intimacy is also about knowing the hidden parts of someone, understanding their reactions because you know their story, being able to tell when they're upset even when they're putting up a happy front, spending your time and energy to help them through something hard and expecting all this in return. just the idea that having friends help you is "trauma-dumping" or "asking them to be your therapist" is so vile, so shallow, so commodifying, as if everything in life that is raw and deep is by definition too complicated and therefore just too much. not surprising though that so many people think like this in the era of "situationships"; they don't want to be friends and lovers anymore, they want to be acquaintances and booty calls. couldn't be me.
