“Conversation with Cailan’s confidante, Elric Maraigne, at the beginning of Return to Ostagar reveals that Cailan knew the Battle of Ostagar would be lost–which directly contradicts his outwardly confident behavior. It’s possible that Cailan knew showing any concern for the outcome of the battle could negatively effect morale and further lessen their chances of victory. This implies that Cailan, not unlike Alistair, was much wiser than he seemed to be, and that some of his unconcerned behavior might have merely been an act to bolster morale.”

Notes on shipping: There’s some I’m going to be more selective about than others on this blog. Most notably, Cailan (obviously), Aveline, Vivienne, Rhys, and Varric.
Aveline, Rhys, Branson, and Varric have romantic interests in Donnic, Evangeline, his son’s mother, and Bianca respectively. I will definitely be making those my default verse set up for them. Cailan is married to Anora, and I have a lot of thoughts and headcanons on their relationship, so that is also his default. If you plot with me nicely, I may set up an AU type for a relationship with them.
Vivienne is because she seems to be less interested, especially how during Inquisition she does have Bastien until he passes away and then she does require time to mourn.

He’d dealt with plenty for the day, his letters to the cleric were constantly ignored, the troubles within the Circle were growing, and to top it all off, someone had purposefully toyed with the milk he’d left out for the cats. Luckily he’d intervened prior to any cats drinking from it. At least one thing was right.
