PLUS ULTRA!!!
Went beyond my limit to crank out something new for Crunchyroll Expo!! My Hero Academia is def one of my favorite series of all time. I wanted to portray the battle between “good” and “evil”, between One for All and All for One. All Might lifts up and encourages the new generation of heroes; whereas One for All gathers and uses people for his own schemes. It’s an interesting contrast~
All the characters and designs are so cool, so I ended up including all of class 1-A and the League of Villains. I think I was too ambitious for this piece tho, cuz I wanted to put in a lot more… But at least got something done. Maybe I’ll revisit it in the future~

Like Grandmother, Like Grandson
(Warning Mentions of child abuse and manga spoilers)
Shigaraki and Nana, may be drastically different, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re grandmother and grandson, related by blood. These two have more similarities than what meets the eye, both personality and appearance.
These two are extremely emotional and sensitive individuals, who greatly care for their loved ones and are willing to sacrifice for their needs. For example, despite the tragic consequences, Nana mainly put Koutaro in foster care, for his benefit. She knew the danger he would be in if he lived with her, due to her quirk OFA, along with her imminent battle with AFO. Nana was devastated for leaving Koutaro, judging from her letter, expressions and how desperately she clutched onto him, when the time came.:

Nana, despite plastering a smile, 24/7, still can’t contain her emotions and pain. For example while wishing Koutaro goodbye, her mouth is puckered in grief, and she cries into Gran Torino’s chest that night. Similarly Shigaraki deeply cares for the League. He was shown to be enraged when Twice was manipulated, partnered with the Liberation Front for Mr. Compress’ request for economic stability ( and sushi), avenged Magne’s death and other instances. Shigaraki took many draining efforts and went out of his comfort zone to fulfill their requests too. He’s also extremely expressive, his emotions are obvious to the readers.
Both of them have massive pain tolerance and strong wills. For example, Shigaraki endured the brutal, agonizing medical procedure by Ujiko, experienced intense suffering from his condition and endured PTSD, including abuse from AFO. :

During Nana’s fight with AFO, she still showed a smile to Toshinori, despite bleeding and severely wounded, still had the will to fight. Both of them are shown to bear pain with a smile.
Speaking of pain, both of them are magnets to tragedy. Nana lived an intensely lonely life, cursed with OFA, died relatively young. Her husband died and her son, who she had to leave, hated heroes, became an abusive and oppressive figure to her grandson and his household, a domestic villain, in a way. Her own grandson in her face, says that he hates her, despite her sacrificing so much for Koutaro’s well being. Shigaraki again is an extremely tragic figure. He was mercilessly abused at a young age, killed his own family at five , in a flurry/haze of fear, confusion and pain, when his quirk started to manifest, left on the street, begged for help, yet not a single soul tried to reach out, and was taken in by an heinous  villain, AFO. Both of them have experienced and attract intense suffering and tragedy throughout their lives.
Of course Shigaraki inherited his grandmother’s mole and black hair, but also  hey also have a similar heart-shaped facial structure. Their hair is naturally thick. They seem tall, though Nana seems taller than Shigaraki, they seem to be more or less the same height.
These two have more common grounds, than what we first might expect. Horikoshi explores how much family matters to an individual’s overall personality. Another obvious parallel would be that they have some of the most gorgeous smiles in the series

Shigaraki: All I can do is destroy. I know this because I was mad at my family for enabling my abuse when my quirk went out of control and it killed them, so I must’ve secretly wanted that. I must have been born evil because I lashed out and killed my abusive father while in the middle of a stress-induced mental breakdown. Even though they were my family, I felt relieved when the sources of my suffering were finally gone. So I must be bad. The overwhelming anguish and guilt may have caused me to repress my memories for 15 years, and even remembering snippets of what happened is enough to make me stress-vomit— but I’m sure it’s what I really wanted. BTW guys I’ve felt completely miserable the entire time I’ve been running around as a big bad villain and I’m certain I can never ever feel good again. Maybe if I just destroy everything I’ll finally feel relief, like I did when I destroyed my abusive home. Because I’m bad. Because I’m evil.
BNHA fans: yes, I understand completely. It is so refreshing to have an completely irredeemable, 100% pure evil antagonist whose past obviously did not shape his current beliefs or personality in any shape or form. Can’t wait for the heroes to put this sucker down like the dog he is! 🤪

Notice how I can make a post simply pointing out that Dabi's broadcast is impactful and how heroes putting their reputation before justice isn't heroic, and people will completely miss the point and go "but dabi evil he killed people!!11!1!!!" - what does that have to do with my post?
If you're this far into the story and you still don't understand that the whole point is that it's not just people who have been assigned the label "villain" who commit crimes but that the top three heroes have all either killed someone, abused their own family, or excuse these crimes because they have been committed by a hero, therefore it's automatically a good thing and not a crime? I don't know, maybe you need to read the story again (or read something that's easier to understand).
If you're only "argument" to anything a villain stan says is that a VILLAIN has killed people then you obviously don't have an actual argument to make, you just don't want to admit that we're right. Obviously, a villain is going to commit crimes. What's not obvious is that the heroes are also committing crimes - and getting away with it for that matter.
The characters in the story are fictional and used as a device to get a point across. Dabi hasn't actually killed real-life people, he represents how (untreated) trauma can negatively impact someone. Meanwhile, the heroes represent how people in positions of power will abuse said power and get away with their crimes while also benefitting from their victims' suffering. There are far more points than this, of course, that the story is making and it's so painfully obvious that it's honestly sad how many people will go out of their way to ignore all of this just because it's not the story they want to read. It's okay if you are disappointed by the story, but being in denial isn't gonna change the facts.
Bnha has always been and will always be a story about injustice and a heavily flawed system. If you can't take the criticism the hero system is receiving and refuse to admit that something needs to change, this story is not for you.
