my apologies if this has already been posted here but im sharing this. here is what someone said on twitter along w this image:
the central image text reads: “@everyone I HAVE BEEN RELIABLY INFORMED GUARDIAN JOURNALISTS ARE SNOOPING AROUND ASKING FOR TRANS PEOPLE TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT DIY HRT. THEY ARE PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR UNDER-18S DOING DIY. SHOULDN'T NEED TO BE SAID, BUT DO. NOT. ENGAGE. SPREAD WIDELY. DO NOT ENGAGE. WE NEED THIS NOTICE SPREAD OUT VIA EVERY GRASSROOTS SUPPORT GROUP AND SOCIAL CIRCLE IN THE COUNTRY.
URGENT. IF THEY GET EVEN ONE TO TAKE PART IT BECOMES A NATIONAL CONVERSATION. TOP ALERT.
Guardian journos are apparently asking trans people about DIY. Trans followers: DO NOT SAY ANYTHING TO THEM. NOT A WORD.
I also know I’ve got cis mutuals who have written for the Guardian. Please know I’ve always thought less of you because of that.

just want to be another person chiming in to say i have so much respect for you as a creator. i've been following NS since launch and i started using they/them pronouns because of lucy and tetsuo. your adult work has been such a treat too. also appreciate how you handle interactions with your audience, your willingness to share about your process... thank you. have a good one.
nya~
i've never seen a reason to gatekeep process because like. a) my shit is not that unique, i don't do anything somebody else couldn't also do b) at the same time it is so uniquely me that it's not like anybody is going to replace me.
like the only reason to be like 'no i don't want to share my brush' is if it's a pain in the ass to make it available or you get asked about it twenty times a week and it's annoying. but 'i don't want to share it because it's my special thing' is like okay. are you that insecure in your own talent that you think somebody having your brush would somehow out compete you? little baby?

while you're talking process, any tips on doing color fast? just if you have any things that streamline flatting, etc? comics always take me foreverrr to color
i'm very sorry if your art style has open or textured lines because really the only way to color something fast is if the lines are all closed and you can use the fill tool. like i can never make a comic with the textured brush pen i actually really like using Because it doesn't work with the fill tool.
i also don't do shading, my character art remains flat, the colors just get adjusted for the lighting and unless it's Dramatic, there's no shadows. and my backgrounds (in hunger's bite at least) are generally just a solid color with some loose lineart overtop to imply the space.
basically do less, is how i do it fast. as long as it's harmonious you can get away with doing very little

my apologies if youve been asked before, but your color choices are exquisite! how do you go about choosing them?
*sips drink* gradient maps
this at 50%, set to normal, turned the mess on the left to the harmony on the right.

but when you intend to work with a gradient map or any sort of color overlay, the best thing you can do for yourself is have it on the entire time. like while working on it i never saw that version on the left. it's a bit of trial and error but generally if you have a good idea of your color values, you can make anything look good with a map.
also if you want something to Look like a particular color that isn't on the map, you'll have to saturate it like crazy. like that's why the colors look so fucked over on the left. if i wanted something to look bluish or gray, it had to be Very Very blue to compete with the yellow. and even then it wasn't going to be straight up blue.
wick's purple coat had to fight for its life on a lot of pages so it would actually look purple

hey! i was wondering if you'd be willing to break down what your schedule was like working on the graphic novels you've been doing? like, how much time did it take and how much/what were you working on per day?
shore, so first book was a bit loosey goosey because it was my first time ever working on a tightly dictated schedule other than like. an anthology. and i hadn't figured out my exact rhythm. plus i was still working on NS at the same time for a big chunk of it, so i can't say i was firing on all cylinders.
anyway. the first book is 264 pages long. i started thumbnailing it on 4/18/2022, and turned my thumbnails in for review on 8/23/22, so it took me about 4 months start to finish to script and thumbnail (because i do those at the same time) the book. i honestly don't know how many i did in a day or how many days i worked a week because of some calculator fudging to make it give me accurate deadlines every time i finished a piece early. right now, as i thumbnail book 2, i'm holding myself to 4 thumbnails a day, 4 days a week (so a weekly quota of 16) and i've been keeping up with that fairly well.
i super don't know how long penciling actually took me because it looks like i didn't record the real start date. i remember it took longer to start them than i liked because the thumbnails took a long time to get reviewed, but it worked out fine. for pencils, i held myself to 3 pages a day, 4 days a week. i think this may have been when i started the 4 day work week and i have not gone back since. i finished pencilling 2/24/23.
inks and colors were done simultaneously. for the most part in this book, i don't ink backgrounds, they get done during the color phase. so i would ink 3 pages every day for a week, then color 3 pages every day for a week. and then about 3/4 of the way through the book i realized i enjoyed myself a lot more if i mixed it up, so i switched to inking and coloring whatever i felt like, so long as 3 things got done a day (so, ink color color, or color ink ink, whatever). i finished the book, not counting cover and extra material, on 1/25/24.
which was so far ahead of the original june 2024 deadline that its release date got bumped up to next february. originally it was going to release on my birthday. a tragic loss.
i took all of february off from comic work (and spent the entire thing doing like. 37 commissions. no i don't know how to take real breaks) and started thumbnailing book 2 on march 4th. as of today i'll have thumbnailed 123 pages. basically halfway there!
edit: i should also note i'm like. horrifically fast. ask anybody who also does comics or has worked with me and they'll tell you i'm a freak of nature. do not hold me up as any sort of standard and always ask for as much time as you can get.

why has my computer started treating my tablet pen like i'm using a touch screen and not recognizing it as a mouse. i have to click like three times to highlight anything and it puts the stupid little teardrop things to indicate where i've selected, like i'm on a phone. all my windows ink shit is turned off. where do i tell it to stop doing this

Cover reveal tiiime~ My debut graphic novel, MAELSTROM: A PRINCE OF EVIL, is a fantasy adventure about a bored son of a necromancer queen teaming up with his fated nemesis to overthrow his mother's rule - OR, to betray his new allies at the perfect moment and create an epic legend for himself! The book comes out May 28th, 2024!
Also from now until tomorrow (Sept 8th) you can pre-order the book (and any others you might fancy) at a 25% discount from B&N when you sign up for B&N rewards for free (or are a B&N member): link!
Preorders are a huge deal for a book's success and I'm infinitely grateful if you decide to check it out! Asking your local library to carry it would also go a long long way. Thank you very much for any support!
I don't like to market my own work this way ordinarily, but if you're asking whether a queer themed this book, the answer is yes (also for your consideration, caustic lesbians)

everyone has their own opinion on the best way to plan a story, but when writing a farce or murder mystery I have to advocate for the classic notecard technique because it opens up the possibility that you will glance down while making lunch and see this
