KI NO BI Japanese Gin Cocktail Flight at @fitzgeralds_dc A Cherry Blossom celebration of artisanal Japanese Gins. The Kyoto Distillery is the first in Japan to be solely dedicated to making artisanal Gin. KI NO BI Gin is made using 11 botanicals sourced in its majority from the Kyoto Prefecture were the distillery is located. Another unique regional ingredient only available in Kyoto is found in its underground water source. Fushimi Spring water is renowned for its purity, softness, and mellow flavor. KI NO BI and KI NO BI TEA, the first two gins in the flight, were both elegantly smooth with classic juniper and citrus aromatics and flavors. The flagship KI NO BI is slightly fresher in its aromatics and more Yuzu forward in the palate. KI NO BI TEA delivers the similar freshness and citrusy quality, adding a layer of savory-fruity sweetness to its flavor profile. The third glass on the flight, KI NO BI Edition G, a rare and delicious treat. Edition G was aged in oak barriques sourced from the Argonne forests in Northeastern France near the Belgium border. The barrels had been previously used to mature Henri Giraud quality Champagnes in Marne, Champagne. Only 1,700 bottles of KI NO BI Edition G gin were produced to be distributed in 20 markets worldwide. A truly unique sensorial experience. Cheers! #japanesegin #kinobigin #kyotodistillery #oinoslogo #highspirits (at Fitzgerald's) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqJ_Z5ztp-z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

@sarahabbottmw I’m proud to be on the Judging Committee for @theiwsc, and they asked me to write about Georgian #qvevri #wine for their excellent wine mag, @cluboenologique. Link in my bio. Posted @withregram • @cluboenologique 'The Qvevri is a feat of engineering, not mysticism. And yet, it evokes emotion and mythology,' says @sarahabbottmw. 'Foremost among the false myths around Qvevri that deserve debunking is the idea that they are a magical porridge pot of self-making wine. As Gogi Dakishvili, one of Georgia’s most admired and influential winemakers, and a key figure in the Qvevri renaissance says: "Making wine in a Qvevri takes ten times my attention compared to making wine in a stainless steel tank." Qvevri are labour-, attention- and expertise-intensive, and were devised at a time when labour, attention and expertise were all we had.' At the link in our bio, Abbott explores the country’s Qvevri renaissance, sharing what's new for Georgia’s ancient winemaking vessel - plus some of the most distinct, complex and deliciously soulful wines made in this fashion and discovered at a tasting held by @theiwsc in Georgia. https://www.instagram.com/p/CpZMa8GNuXe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I often get asked what my favorite wine is. I typically avoid answering that question…. Mostly because, the truth is, I don’t have a favorite ONE WINE. Generally, I prefer wines that taste like where they come from, wines that come with an interesting story, and wines that have a special significance. Context is key. This 2019 Dato’s Wine Korbidzeebis Family Cellar, Chkhaveri Rosé Guria, a surprise gift from a new friend, ticks all the boxes… (Thank you for the surprise gift Nicole! Loved it! ) 🙏 ❤️ 🍷 Kobidzeebis Family Cellar produces expressive natural wines using traditional Georgian qvevri with grapes from his family vineyard located in the Guria region in western Georgia, near the Black Sea. The late-ripening, pinkish-violet variety Chkhaveri originally was a “maghlari” wine, a vine trained to grow up trees, in order to combat high humidity. This wine is dark rosé in color; light and fresh in texture and flavors; full of wild berry aromas and flavors in the nose and in the palate, nice acidity with just a hint of underlying funky tartness. Delightful, easy to drink, with a long pleasant finish. Definitely recommend it! #winesfromgeorgia #lowintervention #chkhaveri #maghlari #oinoslogo #rosewine #datoswine #grateful #thankyou (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CopXYQ9rnSb/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Although Zinfandel is one of the most popular wine grapes grown in California, (and for a while thought to be native to the US), it’s origins are in Croatia where it’s known as Tribidrag. I received this Lodi George Phillips Cellars Zinfandel in a shipment from Wine Insiders. After a quick splash decanting and swirling, the wine started really expressing itself. A bouquet of chocolate covered black cherries, vanilla, and pepper rushed up to the nose and palate. Medium to long spicy finish. The GPC Zinfandel was a delicious wine bottle to share a lively conversation to. Bringing a bit of sunny California and warm Eastern Mediterranean flavors and sounds to a chilly, early afternoon in the city. Misirlou, the wine, is a flavorful, uncomplicated California Sauvignon Blanc with citrusy, savory notes and a touch of bright green apple pie and baking spices. Yum! Misirlou, the Arab folk song, was popular from the 1920s onwards in the Arab American, Armenian American and Greek American communities who settled in the United States. Yes, I’m dancing to the music! 😉 Visit the link in bio to ship this and other delicious wines brought by Wine Insiders directly to your home at very palatable prices. #wineinsiders #oinoslogo #sauvignonblanc #winestagram #winesofcalifornia #misirlou #linkinbio #ad (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnuUxDaLFRh/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

@btparsons Negroni Week is the perfect time to slow down and sip a Negroni. Inspired by Sophie Minchilli (@sminchilli) and her book, I wrote about "dolce far niente" (the sweetness of doing nothing), in the new issue of IMBIBE (@imbibe). Take a cue from the Italy and soak up the experience and appreciate the rattle of porcelain cups at a small café as the barista pulls another espresso, older men gathering around al fresco tables at a Roman bar drinking bottles of red label Peroni and playing cards, or a group of friends sipping crimson-hued Negronis and nibbling on olives. These seemingly ordinary and uneventful moments born of daily rituals offer the promise of adding up to scenes from an extraordinary life. Link to read the essay in my profile. Walking around @chevychasedc, I ended up in Rome, or so it seemed when I stopped at @italianbardc . The house-made pistachio and strawberry gelato (or pistacchio e fragola) was the perfect sweet finish after having an Italian lunch at @imeddiecano . The small details are what makes both places feel so authentic. Such as when I ordered a caffè and received a perfectly drawn demitasse of espresso served with a glass of water on the side, just like in Rome. Definitely recommend! #gelato #italian #oinoslogo #imeddiecano #americano #italiancafe #washingtondc #caffe (at Italian Bar) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cifdadnrjuz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

2015 Escalada do Sil, Valdeorras (Spain) Found at Barcelona Wine Bar (Cathedral Heights, Washington, D.C.) Bright Ruby red in color, with a quick splash decanting and just a short wait, the bright aromas of sour cherry liqueur with savory, spicy, and mineral elements jumped out of the glass on the first nose. A touch of floral and smoky aromas of violet and incense emerged as the wine adapted to the glass. This 2015 Escalada do Sil certainly drank beautifully! The flavors mirroring the aromas; Tannic and bright textured elements dancing on the palate, taking turns in the forefront without completely settling in any specific direction, adding an element of subtle discovery to every sip. From the “Valley of Gold”, possibly the oldest wine region in the area as ancient Romans planted vines after mining the land for gold. The grapes: Merenzao (Bastardo or Trousseau), Mencia (Jaen), and Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouchet). The vineyards for this wine are located on terraced sloped hills by the sinuous river Sil, approximately 90 miles inland in the Southeastern region of Galicia, Spain. Produced by Compañia de Vinos del Atlantico (Alberto Orte & Patrick Mata) imported to the US by the wonderful people at Olé & Obrigado. Definitely recommend. Salud! ** (Grateful for the hospitality from the bar team at Barcelona Wine Bar at Cathedral Heights!!!) 🙏🍷 #redwine #winesofspain #winesofinstagram #sommlife #hospitality #mencia #merenzao #tapas #oinoslogo #imback #vinosdeespaña (at Barcelona Wine Bar) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiC4gx2vcpV/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Always fun when our creations continue to be enjoyed. Originally created for a group of wonderful regular guests at @immigrantfood looking for a “rum cocktail tasting like a Mon Cheri” for a night cap! I said absolutely…! Haitian Rum, Caribbean coconut cream, and freshly grounded nutmeg to celebrate our friends from Haiti. Cherry liqueur and PX Sherry for the cherry and chocolate flavors hinting at the French and Spanish influences in the Caribbean. #immigrants #france #spain #haitianrum #haiti #rum #rhum #oinoslogo #mixology #immigrantfood #cheers #santé #angelkiss #desertcocktail (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch0U_ZUpnrB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This weekend, I had the amazing pleasure to meet with and share a glass of wine with a great friend and current beverage manager at Jaleo in DC, Ramón Testa-Soto. The very unique wine: Mas Martinet Els Escurçons 2018 100% Grenache from the village of Gratallops in Priorat, Spain. Elegant and fresh, showing bright fruit and pronounced mineral quality. Fermented in amphorae, only 3,465 bottles, 40 magnums and some larger formats were bottled in November 2019…. Still young! Definitely a treat! #Priorat #colleagues #sommlife #jaleo #TFG #grenache #oinoslogo (at Jaleo) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch0RXIMpYJF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
